Your gardens look WONDERFUL!!! Don't worry about misremembering what you planted, I planted what I thought were DAFFODILS by the hundreds last year which this spring all came up as TULIPS. Boy was I shocked, after looking at my map of plantings, and can only assume the bulbs were mislabeled, but nevermind they were beautiful and lasted longer than the daffodils.
First time watching your videos and I really like the way you present your garden. Your soft spoken way is very soothing and not tiring at all. Your garden has motivated me to try and mix flowers and veg next season as well. 👏🏼 great work
What an achievment in just one season!!! I just have a tip for the borretsch… the leaves are used in Italy to make a filling for ravioli- like pasta. Together with fresh cheese, nuts or whatever you like. Much like spinache. And its sooooo good!
I’ve deep mulched with hay so far so good. No weeds plus the ground is nice and damp (Wiltshire) there’s been no rain for weeks plus many wildfires here.
I've got wood mulch, straw, and black polythene as a trial and for potatoes have done best in the straw while the smaller plants like Chard, Lettice has done better in the wood mulch but the onions, Runner beans and Strawberries have grown getter than ever in the black plastic and with zero weeds it is my first choice.
Lovely tour of your garden Liz. I grow Tobacco plants for the moths too, (Nicotiana Alata lime green) and hopefully that will help the dwindling number of bats here.
Liz whatever it is you use on the compost area roof , you could have rain butts on the other side as it slopes down . There could be a good amount of water caught there or even some troughs and a couple of watering cans . Xx I am astonished at how many plants and how many different varieties you have this year giving the beds color and height and the fragrance as you walk past must be Devine . Absolutely beautiful video Liz . 🦋💚🌸💐🍋🍎🥦
You've done very well in the relatively short time you've been at the new place!! I'm seeing powdery mildew, too. Some of my comfrey has it. I don't know if it's the dry weather or what.
You are lucky to have rain liz and we have not had any for months and we have now almost ran out of water. But apart from losing new seedlings and seed showings we havnt done too badly. The sunburnt our runner bean flowers so no beans set but we have now another flush of flowers so here is hoping.👍
Looking fab! I just love the combination of edibles and flowers. We’ve got a nest of baby hedgehogs and mum living in one of our compost bays currently which means I can’t access any compost until they leave 😜
Hello Liz. I love watching your utube channel for good ideas and inspiration. I have heard you mention your problem with rabbits. I have gardened rural for many years and have found that rabbits are repelled by Calendulas. They don't like the pungent smell of the mature plants and flowers. Might be worth experimenting. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. All the best from New Zealand. 💖
Hi Liz, Huw Richards recommended watching your channel...so glad I have, you mentioned using shorn wool to help full your beds. We're only at the start of our garden and we've a stack of wool, how much would you use? Absolutely love watching your garden, especially loved the perennial veg and fruit video. Thanks 😊
I'll move some of the plants to the flower garden because in many beds I have 10 of each plant. Nine of them can go into the flower field and one can stay in the veg garden. The flowers will eventually be for sale and it will be easier to pick them when grown together in rows in the field.
There are a couple of videos with footage of hedgehogs from our last home. I'll try and find the links for you. And, here's how to deal with powdery mildew (from my website) bytherfarm.com/powdery-mildew/
Hi Liz, the veg garden is looking fab! There's so much too look at, can I ask where you got your metal raised beds from please? Wonderful video once again! X
Rain! What’s that? We haven’t had any for weeks and weeks. Please send some our way. I’m in the South West notorious for rain but it’s disappeared. I’m going to have to do a rain dance.
Looking great!! I'm also in camarthen. I'd love to come for a visit for some serious inspiration as we look at expanding our own veg garden! 😊😉 also willing to help out around the farm if you need an extra pair of hands 😁
Your flowers look beautiful. I've struggled growing flowers from seed. They seem to need so much time. Do you have any suggestions? Do you start seeds in trays or direct sow?
I am again reminded that it seems people don't realize that butterflies and moths are pollinators. In fact, some types of flowers are pollinated mostly by butterflies and moths. Columbine and peas being in the list.
Hi Liz , how much land did you move onto and did you buy it with accommodation , I keep playing with the idea of a small holding , I always fancied Cornwall , but after this year visiting Wales , it’s pretty amazing countryside , I wondered if I could do similar but live in a static caravan or something as property is a bit out of our range , but I have worked hard for 5 years filling my own garden with polytunnel and beds , flowers etc from seed . I think it’s great 👍 I love watching your progress x 😘
Hi Andrea, we bought 4.5 acres with a small cottage and lots of barns and outbuildings. We had the option to purchase another 6.5 acres, but we've had to do so much to the house to bring it up to standard of watertight and warm that we can't afford the additional land (boo hiss).
Hi Tanya, the plants I bought aren't plugs, they are field grown plants. They have arrived and are about 15 inches (45 cms) tall. I bought them from Cornish Cabbages.
Because I grow mixed beds, it usually doesn't matter what goes in where. There are some combinations that I try to avoid, like growing alliums with beans. The great thing about polycultures, is that they reduce the risk of pests and diseases building up in the soil.
Beds are 12 ft long and approx 4 feet wide (beds in the two centre rows are more like 3 feet wide), pathways are approx 3 feet wide because I want them wide enough to use a wheelchair in the garden.
Hi there! Great garden you have! I noticed that of certain well known brand seeds, i didn't see the veggie coming up i bought! I also bought Brussels sprouts for the winter but i got broccoli all over the place..they all became white leaved because of fungi (dew you called it!) and it's also results of chemtrails..i just recycled them, they will not be good for eating..so .many veggies and fruits didn't busted since the chemrains killed the plants..they start to hurry to make seeds so it's a sterilizer in the air..dew .rain . I also had this with my strawberries i have for 27yrs now .and the chemtrails in early spring kill the first flowers so the plants starts to do weird.. They are spraying warfare crap i researched..it means they spray stuff on our crops .it kills the whole plant tree in 2 to 4months..root leaves stem flowers fruits..! They look burned..it's a new warfare method..pretty gros..again humanity who love to be self-sufficient or do nodig weddings or permaculture.. They really don't want succes.. But it does show which plants still do well and survive..depending on the soil and garden of course . Huge veggiegarden you have..do you all eat from it only..for a family? Or do you sell too?
@@LizZorab I agree! I came from the country and was amazed when they'd come out at night to feed on BUGS. Then I met a gal in the city, whose Father and she put up bat boxes to protect them, I was in for an education and LOVE BATS NOW!!! They LOVE to eat mosquitoes.
Bats are are a valuable and essential part of the ecosystem, please do what you can to support them, don't harm them! Your garden and you will benefit ! :) They're a delight.
