The narrator did a good job in not overwhelming the listener with too many characters, summarising this long story. He also did a pretty good job in pronouncing the Chinese names, which is not an easy task. Two names that he can consider correcting will be 1. Han. Most of the time, he pronounced it as "Hen". Occasionally, he correctly pronounced it, which should sound like "Harn". 2. Cao Cao. He pronounced this with the "s" sound, which is incorrect. It has a short sound, more along the lines of Chao.

Yan Liang, the one got killed by quan Yu, is actually a very unfortunate character in other version of the romance of three kingdoms. In other old hand-scripted the romance of three kingdoms, it says that when Yan Liang is heading to battlefield, Liu Bei told him that "吾有一弟,乃關雲長也,身長九尺五寸,須長一尺八寸,面如重棗,丹鳳眼,臥蠶眉,喜穿綠錦戰袍,騎黃驃馬,使青龍大刀,必在曹操處。如見他,可教急來。" (Basically, describe how Guan Yu looks like and said that he must be in Chao Chao side. If you saw him, tell him that I'm here and he would just come over) Then, we can imagine a scenario that Yan Liang was trying to inform Guan Yu about the location of Liu Bei but Guan Yu kills him too quickly..... I guess this makes better sense because Guan Yu didn't get many resistant while approaching Yan Liang

Understanding liu bei intention is not just aiming of restoring the hans dynasty but as to achieve his goal to become the emperor of china. He knew that by winning the heart's of the people and the unconditional love and integrity of his brotherhood towards him and also using the right strategist and talented people to work for him was the outmost key element to succeed in those chaos days. He's very smart :)

Alright so here is the thing I have been a fan of ROTK since i was 6 yrs old and started playing the ROTK2 game on the Super Nintendo. i really wish that this would become a crazy 10 season show that would go into hard core drama and battles i feel like the ROTK show presented on RU-vid started amazing but then at some point it lost money or something and they just copied pasted sections and then gave almost no love to how it ended with the JIN Dynsaty ultimatly conquering. it almost feels like they focused alot of the attention on the most loved character Liu Bei and his Dynasty. But never the less your summary is really good and was a great refresher to making me watch this show for the 10th time lol. Thanks
@daveeygdoeschinese2546
@daveeygdoeschinese2546 4 года назад
haha i know what you mean, it had mazing potential. it was around episode 50 i noticed the quality begin to dip and they literally copy and pasted clips of battle scenes haha. As far as the story focusing on Liu Bei, this is just going by the source material as Liu Bei was considered the good guy for a number of reason. I dont want to spoil my series but I strongly recommened you watch it through to the end (6 parts in total). You see Liu Beis character devolve from being the protaginist of the story to a twisted fallen heroby the end. This is the true meaning of the book. Part 5 is coming out in a few days and I promise you it's going to blow your mind. So get caught up, if you want just watch part 3 and 4 as its where in my opinion the story properly takes places.

Great video! I do think it’s important to note that you’re not following the actual historical documents and are focusing more on the actual novel and dramatization of the romance. It’s great! I just don’t want people to become confused if they are searching for the factual history that we can prove, because there is so much info out there! For example, Liu Bei was never a part of the coalition. At that time he was ent back to join his old friend Gongsun Zan.

The corruption of the Han empire was at its peak around the year 180, the year before the Partisan Prohibitions were repealed. By this time, the eunuchs were the main governing body of the Han, while the title of Emperor was just that - a title with little to no real power. This widespread corruption was so severe that then-Emperor Ling once remarked that "Regular Attendant Zhao Zhong is my father and Regular Attendant Zhang Rang is my mother". This, combined with repeated natural disasters which in turn led to poor harvests every season, only fueled the anger of the people. This was especially prevalent around the capital of Luoyang and its surrounding commanderies.

Hey man, great video. Just want to make a correction regarding Liu Bei and the coalition. In the show, he is disrespected by everyone except Cao Cao, but they do take a lot of creative liberties. In the book, it’s completely the opposite. When Liu Bei arrives, Gongsun Zan introduces him and described what he done during the Yellow Turban Rebellion. Yuan Shao was super impressed and let him join because he was part of the imperial family. The book implies that it didn’t matter what Liu Bei accomplished, Yuan Shao only cared that he was an imperial scion. Anyway, it’s tough to separate the show from the book sometimes, but keep up the good work! Also the fate of the women are often made up in the show, though mostly because the original book didn’t really mention it at all.

hey thanks so much for the correction man. I was honestly worried I'd get the narratives of the book and the tv series mixed up considering I watched the tv series about 3 times and only read the book once haha. but yeah your right i remember now that the tv series definately played up the dramatic elements at the expense of the original source material; in fact i remember allot of people complained about the 2010 series for that reason despite its popularity. thanks for the comment 😁

Correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding of Romance of the Three Kingdoms was that Cao Cao and Liu Bei were bitter rivals. I’ve always thought Cao Cao was the bad guy in not just the story itself, but in history as well.
@anonymousturtle8562

I'm not an expert in Chinese history, but... Liu Bei and Cao Cao had been enemies towards the end of Cao Cao's life; but things were more complicated before that, with Liu Bei even serving as a subordinate to Cao Cao in the 190's. Starting with the "Records of the Three Kingdoms," written by Chen Shou in the late 3rd century, I don't think there was any Chinese tendency to portray Cao Cao as a major villain of the period... until about 900 years later, as the development of Chinese opera started to do so, around the time of the Mongol conquests. In turn, the "Romance" novel took many of its inspirations from those Chinese operas. Really, the classic history of the time had been written by a loyal servant of the Jin (Sima family) emperors. And insofar as he was putting a spin on things, he wanted the Sima family to be the "legitimate good guys," including when they were serving Cao Cao and his family; that the Cao family had been legitimate Emperors, whereas the Liu family of Shu Han and the Sun family of Wu had not been truly Emperors; and that the Sima family had seized power only when it was apparent that they were much more competent than the increasingly less fit members of the Cao Wei dynasty. In formal Chinese historical scholarship, the "Records" are taken as genuine history; while the stories of the "Romance" and Chinese opera (etc) are understood as fictionalized accounts.

Honestly as a kid I loved the living shit out of dynasty warriors because I did kung fu at a very young age (4) and we had to always bow to our Elders before class (which were pictures of influential Chinese martial artists, my Shifu’s master, and there was a picture and statue of Guan Yu. And I always thought he looked so cool and I genuinely wanted to learn about him, and so I did, then I discover this game Dynasty warriors and I recognize the people in it and from that moment on I was hooked. But for me I never knew it was actual history. I know some say it’s actually pretty possible its all mythological but to me it was on the same level as the Bible. Whereas I don’t look at it as history but rather a deeper part of life. Im not sure if that makes any sense. But as an adult now I’ve been obsessed with the total war games and I just blindly went into three kingdoms literally not looking at it prior, not even knowing what it was. And I was pleasantly surprised, and I was like you know I never really learned the actual history of this. So here I am. Btw three kingdoms is by far the best total war game ever.

haha glad you enjoyed. Yes I am a Liu Bei fan boy but keep watching man, I'm on the same page as you. I know he changes and towards the end of his life he essentially just embodies another warlord like the rest. I personally think this is one of the crux character developments of the story.

16:27 it was probably not very historically accurate, I bet it’s just a fictional plot added by the author, Luo GuanZhong. Luo GuanZhong was a Ming dynasty person, and one on one fight was a symbol of chivalry at that time period (it also is today apparently).
