What a wonderful position to be in to be able to buy and renovate a house with out concern of the cost of it during a cost of living crisis. I’m glad you’re doing so well. I hope your friend loves her new home. It will be very nice when it’s all done.
Hi carys! You don’t need a custom made runner. Just a good carpet fitter who can measure the staircase for you, and the turn steps at the top, get cut a certain sharp to accommodate the shape of the steps. Then you can get the runner and the turn pieces edged in the same colour of the carpet, or a tape edging which looks like a cotton/canvas fabric. So can be done inexpensively. Ask a local carpet fitter/shop to give you this advice x
So excited for this project! I just can’t get over the fact the brick work isn’t cantered in the loft 😭 also… please don’t paint the brick, love a good brick moment 😍
Completely agree with the centered brickwork in the loft 😭😭would drive me crazy!!! But loving everything else guys well done! Can’t wait to see everything!
Your vision is amazing Carys. I think your friend’s idea is great. Sand the stairs, and possibly stain them or paint them. Rustic and cozy vibes ♥️ Also, you radiate so much joy and you look fantastic 🤗
Thinking that attic conversion would be lot better as an office but if it bedroom I’d recommend carpeting the new stairs to the loft as at night going down to the loo at night, might be bit cold and stairs might be too creaky. But so far looking great and quite a lot progress😊
Your so lucky to be able to renovate a house without worrying about the cost when most young people your age can't even get on the property ladder , im sure it is a great investment, good luck guys you've fell on your feet but it couldn't happen to a nicer couple 😊 xxx
Been waiting for so long for this 'series' to come out, always love your visions! The extension was a great idea and the new patio is looking good 😻my heart ached a bit at the chimney accent in the attic being whitewashed, it has such a beautiful, rustic, earthy look - but I suppose it looks a bit messy? Either way I'm sure whatever you guys make of this house, it's gonna be fantastic! Can't wait for the next 'episode'! -- fyi, Velux is a Danish brand (the windows are just called skylights) and (in Denmark) it's pronounced something like you'd say 'veil' and 'looks' 😁
I think I would opt for a bigger Bathroom rather than 4 bedrooms- but you probably talked to your friend whos moving in about what she wants in that department🥰
Ahhh this video was so exciting! Can’t wait for more updates, it’s going to look amazing once it’s finished. Love the idea of a bigger hallway and the stairs into the loft look fab 👏🏻x
Loving watching this😊 personally I think fully fitted carpet on the stairs is the most practical, I’ve just had my runner removed and carpet fully fitted (stairs also opposite the front door) and the edges which were painted white used to get so dusty! I also think wooden stairs are more slippery and dangerous and noisier to walk up esp for neighbours if you are attached! Hope this helps xx
For the stairs carpet the top and use the matching wood on the upstand. We had the same issue with a turn and the cost of the runner our quote was crazy
The Reno of the house is coming along so well, you have made some excellent choices in what you want to be done, having done a couple of Reno’s myself I found ways to make those expensive features on the cheap by shopping around for the items I wanted that were close to the idea I had originally, as it’s great to do those expensive idea’s because your not doing it for “profit” but when you need to replace or change them it is again expensive and believe me when you rent out a property no matter how great your tenants are things need replacing all the time. You won’t need a custom runner up the stairs its all down to the cuts when the carpet fitter lays it down so won’t be expensive if you want to paint the stairs and have a runner. Whatever you decide to do though is purely down to you and your tastes ( which are fabulous 😘) and having fun doing it is so important, I can’t wait too see what you do with it in the next update xx❤xx
Hi Carys, I know your wanting to flex your design muscles with this make over but regarding the stairs, I think you should do what your friend would like and its a cheap solution! Love all your ideas tho!! ❤x
Carys and James this is so exciting. I love your visions and I know your not doing it for profit but it’s a great investment for your future and what your doing for a friend is amazing, wish there was more people like you both in the World. I feel like you are back to yourself too Carys. I think you lost yourself there having 2 children under 2. I know how that felt myself many years ago. But you are looking the best I’ve seen you in a while, embracing life as a young brilliant mum may I add & Dad, can’t forget you too James as your the best too, but getting your teeth stuck back into doing what you both do best. I think there will be a few more projects & investments on the horizon even if for pension reasons maybe? being self employed,That’s what my dad did and now selling them all off and a nice nest egg of money to enjoy retirement. I wish you all nothing but the best and for your friend, she’s very lucky to have you both. ❤❤
Love your vision already!! ✨Such huge improvements to before! I would leave the brick wall as is and maybe do a tidy caulking in white or black but it's such an amazing feature that would be lost if painted white..🤎🧱
I think it would be good to have a runner as you could continue that to the second stair or do the second stair full carpet ? Thinking about continuity 😊 it looks so great 👌👏
Like your vision guys but I would keep the front entrance has it is and agree about using the titles for that. I would also stain the stairs or paint them maybe anyway great job guys ❤❤❤❤❤
Hey guys! When you said you were placing the kitchen next to the old fireplace, I just hoped you wouldn’t be covering it up! It looks like a lush historic piece that could be awesome
You're doing a wonderful job! It's lovely to see how you're respecting the original features of the house too xx it's going to be absolutely stunning - though i don't envy you the cost! 🥴
So happy for you guys 😊looking faward to coming along with you while do your project, you have beautiful ideas guys can't wait to see the finished result xx
I never comment but where you say you may have a built in coffee unit. I really think you should do that and not leave it blank. As you don’t have the storage under the stairs, your going to need cupboard’s to put stuff in 😊
Tell your friend to never come down stairs with a big load of sheets in her arms...my sister's stairs had pie shaped ones at the turn like yours and I was taking laundry down to the basement and stepped on the pie shaped one and fell...luckily it was only 2 or 3 steps from the bottom floor and I landed on my knees but on the pile of sheets So i didn't break any bones..the ideal is to have the laundry upstairs where all the clothes and bedding are in the first place.
That’s normal in the U.K. and they will have a downstairs toilet , no need for more it’s just more convenient to have more and usually the countries that have more bathrooms also have houses that are a lot bigger… the U.K. is a small country hence our houses are a lot smaller
When you say not for profit are you referring to the resale value of the house as don’t intend to sell it? Surely you’ll be making a profit on the rent otherwise you would end up out of pocket after maintenance/ insurances / repairs ETC? Not being mean just confused haha xx
They mean that they arent doing the renovation on the cheap to sell and make a profit. They'll obviously make a profit but not like what a typical landlord would do
I don't think all that dust is good for the baby to be in especially when she is sneezing plus it's like a building site anything could have dropped from the ceiling and landed on her
