Excellent!! You held my attention all the way through. Thank you for being here on RU-vid and also thank you for sharing your knowledge. Kind regards, Steve.
Nice video, very informative. I thought 6" was the minimum for wires in boxes, so wouldn't you of had to install pigtails to the wires old wires to extend them?
I caught that too 😂 I seen another video yesterday where someone was saying not to touch ground wire with load/lead screws then ended up doing that anyways 😂
Nicely done! I have a similar situation, but the wire has no ground, just two wires (black and white). Should I just run a new circuit, or is there a way to add a ground?
Great video but how many people with have a single gang box ? Most will have a plastic box nailed to the stud they will have to cut out then put a old work box in .
Good video. But looking for something a little different. I have to coach style lights on either side of bathroom mirror. Both have built in push button switches. Would like to REPLACE one with just a switch for an over the mirror light bar, and REPLACE the other side with JUST an outlet . Possible video for either ?? Thank you.
I have a old box. Old wires, the outlet is hot, but the switch next to it is not! I have a ceiling light that blew out. How do I make the switch work again ? Trying to install a ceiling fan, Can I make a pig tail and jump it over to the switch ?
Very nicely done. I'm in a apartment, it was a garage conversion and the electric is a mess. They pushed all the wires in the backs of terminals. One day I came home. I hit the switch for the ceiling fan and heard a big pop. And both the outlet and switch blew out. Now I have no ceiling fan. I open up the box and now not sure what wire is off. It's a metal box and not sure what's wrong or right
Did you ever do a video on changing a switch into an outlet? I want to change the garbage disposal switch into an outlet, because the garbage disposal has been removed. Thanks!
There was a change in code where now the ‘norm’ is to have the hot and the neutral in the switch or receptacle. Then it’s easy to pigtail those to a new receptacle. If this is what you have, then you’re good to go. Wago nuts are really convenient for a DIYer.
Did you ever make the video going from a receptacle box to switch? There's a room i'm working on that has 2 heavy duty receptacles GFCI, & a ceiling fan, before i rip their wall apart to confirm that one was actually a light switch previously, I was thinking if it wasn't i could just piggy tail the light in & just replace the GFCI with a light switch or do it side by side like you are, which didn't occur to me at first. Idk what do you think about my theory? 11:02 & yup the one i'm doing atm is a tabbed blue box that came out of the wall it is extremely old though. Might as well update the light & make a switch while i'm at it.
Thank you. Two questions: do you have to ground the box as well in this case or it’s made of a non conductor material? The other question is: it looks as you cut the wires less than 6 inches from the box …. How long is the minimum? Thanks
I bought a roll of thhn 12 awg wire that I use for ground pigtails. The less bare wire, the better imo. The other thing I like is to use stranded pigtail wire on commercial receptacles with wagos.
Great question! Each device is different! It is usually printed in the paperwork or on the device! Here is the screw driver I was using amzn.to/3ar7UNT and here is a much less expensive one amzn.to/3dxGxnr here is a video on it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lBCGAnGSf4Q.html Also you can check out tons of other cool tools @ electricaldiystore.com/
cool video with a good explanation. Different Design of US sockets and switches than in Europe where I live. But I would say that is interesting design. You can check out at some of my videos look of electrical sockets and switches and tel me what you think about the internal design
@@electricianhub86 or maybe Damian was referring to making the switch gfci protected. waste of time IMHO. pain ass callbacks when gfi trips, takes bath light with it and home owner freaks
@@harveylong5878 We had a house we were selling that did that and the home inspector wrote it up. So the new buyers wanted it fixed not to kill the lights also.
