This has been my most awaited (monthly) segment on ANC. Mimi’s line of questioning is really on point, while Stevie’s answers are also objective and straightforward. Kudos to both of you! And oh, more of this please!
Stevienomics should start a weekly podcast! This once a month limited air time is not enough for us to learn from his great mind. We can learn a lot from him to improve the state of our country’s economy. More power to you Sir!
Yes, I fully agree! This guy is truly remarkable! If someone from PBBM happens to watch this video, please invite him to a simple chat and I'll assure you won't hear a simple answer! Marvelous!
@@scuunjieng Oo nga po.. but something longer definitely and with other guests din in other industries/field :) That would really give us more insights about the market, economy and other relevant topics. I would love to listen to conversations like that! :D :)

He's very objective! Straightforward! Really like his mind. I always watch him. He's very passionate! I wanna be like him- witty, no pretense, prangka to the max!
Stephen Cuunjieng is one of the most articulate intellectual businessman in Ph. Yes, focus on education and agriculture will ease the insurgency problem.
One thing I need to add about poverty alleviation is that we shouldn't rely too much on government aid(financially) and instead work on themselves to become better so that we can provide more value to the world dahil we are paid not by the hour we put in our job/business but the value we provide to others
I've been watching most of Stephen Cuunjieng' interview but this interview is really sensational and remarkable! Aside from his response to exchange rates and interest rates, I like how he explain and articulate his position in reconciling the difference between the roles of private and government in addressing our agricultural output. I highly recommend this video interview. Very informative! Most enlightening!
many people are blaming the present administration and even the past for the economical crisis that we're facing right now without knowing that it's a global phenomenon controlled by the united states. stephen also stated that we should prioritise agriculture and education which is why i think it is only right that the two highest position in the country will take over the department. i had fun listening to this interview. great questions asked. very articulate as always, stephen. hats off to both!
I love his point of view exactly how ive always thought but he articulated it very strongly esp the role of government wiich should be developmental and provide balance by making sure of inclusive growth and protecting the less fortunate
I am already a fan of Stephen Cuunjieng. I seldom see this kind of Filipino mindset and always following his wisdom talks. Can you discuss how a Filipino voter/viewers rate a leader of a country through economic indicators? Like GDP per Capita, Trade of Balance, etc? - I hope he can read my comment.
Can't help but recall the principles from "Poverty of Nations" by Barry Asmus and Wayne Grudem. Stephen is the Filipino version. He is passionate and convincing. "Private sector is good in terms of profit, government in developmental aspects. Both should be supreme in their fields." I hope we will have more stellar economists like him. I want to be like him.
I wish i could have a meal with Stevie and learn more from him. Im not well-versed in the financial world but when he speaks, i learn something. I also wish these things were taught in school
There should be a dedicated playlist for this in ANC’s video playlist, it is so tedious to scour past videos with Cuunjieng in it. By the way, love Stevie’s videos!
I agree the govt is relying too much to PPP which would be privately operated where profit would definitely be a major factor that add cost to goods and services. This is especially true for roads where this impacts even the farm products and services. We already have the road user's tax. What happened to this fund. Where is the developmental result of the intent of this tax? We have been paying too much taxes, with added excise even. May be the problem is how are the taxes spent and the corruption issues, not additional tax or fund borrowing, which the previous admin failed to address due to extremely poor financial managers.
We need more people like you to talk on these issues. Omg, yes! Y not get this guy work in NEDA or somewhere he could be more utilized? Pero sabagay nga naman, that depends on the majority of people in government, baka sayang lang ang talino at expertise nya din😁
The government needs to reassess the whole process to fix all the wastage and gaps in that process. Why not really start removing the corruption in government and its services because he's RIGHT the primary goals of both sectors are different. We need both to make the economy work but we can't confuse their roles.
You nailed it Stephen! Reducing waste stage means efficiency in the process. Being efficient is tantamount to quality and productivity in agriculture. The government can help farmers solve this. We can include the reduction of waste food in hotels and luxury buffets.
Good comment on distribution of role by discerning Development of Profit as motive. Clearly for me the Agriculture sectors has suffered from the profit motives of players higher in the value chain
You have very good perspective if not best in assessing what kind of development we could have had if the govt chose not to be a debt driven economy. the more the grant availed ,much more we are bound and slave to follow lenders' policies adverse to our country's interest/ benefit. This' the reason we are mud- deep in debt and not be able gaining back.
Wla naman problema sa utang as long as may maganda project. Isa pa meron tayo Gold Reserved na kahit pa mag zero ang economiya natin our Gold Reserved can help the economy for at least 9months pero impossible yan mangyari dahil hindi naman tayo nag wiwithdraw ng reserved bagkos dinagdagan pa natin yan kasi nakakabili tyo ng sarili nating GOLD in a reasonable price dahil ang Pilipinas top exporter ng GOLD. Kahit kailan not in history bumibili tayo ng Gold sa labas. Isa pa kailangan talaga tayo mangutang para magkaroon tayo ng USD for trade. Kaysa mag Exchange ka ng peso to dollyar mas malaki.
Gold reserved ang meron tayo at hindi USD.. Hindi B*B* ang mga Economista natin to keep a paper shit money called FIAT CURRENCY!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--GImaf-PvjA.html
I would have hope Stevie is part of BBM 's adviser. Our country needs his practical inputs now more than ever. Rather than the same people running the same failure strategy.
True but the thing is Stevie is earning more in the private sector. Unless Stevie is willing to sacrifice his big earnings for working in the government with measly low salary as mentioned by PBBM which does not attract those brilliant minds in the private sector.
Very insightful! Does Stephen have podcast? I am quite interested with his intellect. I hope he’ll be picked or be offered as one of the presidential and/or economic consultant of our government.
Stephen seems to not have lived in the Philippines.....the answer to the country's problems are simple esp if you look at it from an outsider's perspective but the reason as to why these problems have not been solved are due to persistent corruption and a culture of quick fixes at the benefit of rich traders and not long term solutions for the benefit of our farmers.
Truly Chris pointed it out so correctly on how poverty should be addressed. In fact, it appeared that feeding the poor has either become an election strategy or basically incompetent leaders. Such as is evident in the past regime. Hoping BBM would not emulate their malpractices and would pursue the green revolution of his father. Teach a man how to fish, as the wise men say, and he would live forever.
Hold your horses lol. This guy always has the point. He can be the adviser of the government. I would like those talking to be implemented.. fruit fruit fruit. Ideas should bear fruit.
Thailand is legalising sell, use and exportation of cannabis if I'm not mistaken. I can see this move of Thai government will improve economic growth and tourism in Thier country. Do you think something like that can be done here in the Philippines and what laws need to be in place to make it happen.
Oh please don’t! Cannabis never… it will be a gateway to more drug addiction. I am. Nurse and I’ve seen so many young people smoking marijuana and progress to hard drugs….
@@Thrivinglife3835 But alcohol can also be a gateway to hard drugs and the effects can even be more destructive compared to cannabis. Decriminalization for cannabis is the best move here
The only reason to why the dollar is still going to gain against other currencies is that there’s literally NO ONE out there to supplant the dollar to become the foreign currency reserves! Dollar is the most stable currency to hold to other countries to balance their sheets! If Philippines wants to import oil from Saudi Arabia? Saudi Arabia doesn’t want to get paid in Philippine pesos! It wants to get paid in dollars! Unless Japan can get their act and hedge their currency as a legit foreign reserves? Everyone literally everyone must obey the dollar!
Sorry I don’t really like twitter and leave my comments to this monthly interview and my Manila Times column which appears on Fridays. Thank you for your kind comment
@@scuunjieng Well that's the thing because as far as I can recall, what Fidel Ramos instituted was mostly destructive for the country, chief of which was when he officially signed the entry of the Philippines into the GATT-WTO regime making life even more difficult for our farmers, fisherfolks and laborers. He did of course promised them safety net measures which never came. That neoliberal globalization stuff made the country uninsulated from the Asian financial crisis towards the end of his term. Those policy directions he took are now coming home to roost in light of supply chain disruptions, and economic effects of climate change.
@@mitch2192 this is my last reply. You mention only one thing in your mostly destructive rant and while I can plausibly argue that was not good there is no context on what would happen if we didn’t and who was responsible for not subsequently getting us ready. And completely ignore all that was done in his administration. So yes I am of the view you are biased and closed minded. Unlike you I do not blindly hero worship or hate but analyze and do my best to reached a fair conclusion. So we do not think alike even on approach much less conclusions. So will not waste my time any further
@stephen cuunjieng sir, you work in Meryll Lynch before? I have a nephew who works in Meryll Lynch, I'm not sure if you're familiar with Pierre Lim, he's my nephew now based in the US.
