Considering they look barely 10 years old, they will probably be in service for at least another decade, most likely more. Unfortunately TFL wants to replace all deep tube lines with the New Tube for London and the ageing 72 and 73 stock trains may mean an early replacement of the 92, 95, 96 and 09 stocks. Hopefully if they are withdrawn before their life expires they are bought out for operation elsewhere in the country as that would be a massive waste of fully operational trains.

@@cryoraptora303tm2 not all the Deep Level lines will have their trains replaced with the New Tube for London. In my opinion, the 1995, 1996 and 2009 stock won't be going anywhere for the foreseeable future. The 1995 and 1996 stock underwent mid-life refurbishment programmes between 2013 and 2019, and the 2009 stock have only been in service for 11 years. So I'm sure they'll be around for quite a few more years. And I believe the 1992 stock will also receive a refurbishment. There's been some news about the 1972 stock having a refurbishment as well. But I haven't heard any updates about the 1973 stock. There's been some degree of speculation about the future for each fleet of trains, but with 2020 having shaken things up quite a bit, and TfL in financial difficulty (now that the UK is in economic recession), I'm guessing the NTfL programme will not be quite as grand as we first thought. I guess we shall have to wait and see what happens.

@@joeymandrews I think the NTfL was planned to be first rolled out in 2026, but with COVID, I think that's probably pushed back to the 2030 area now. While the dlt stock are very good-looking for their age, they are moving past their mid-life date and they are probably in the second half of their life. The 1992 stock is almost 30 years old. The recent refurbishments actually work out fairly well for a replacement around 2030. The 2009 stock is the only exception, which probably won't be replaced until 2035 at the earliest, and most likely closer to 2045. I imagine any stock that isn't replaced by NTfL will have yet another upgrade to allow ATO, as that seems to be the general direction TfL are working towards. As for the 197x stock, those will almost certainly be replaced by 2030. The yet-more refurbishments for them are probably just future-proofing to make sure they survive the 2020s if they have to. I'm fairly certain there's no way they can be effectively redesigned to allow for ATO. They are some of the oldest trains that are still in operation in this country, and although they also look excellent for their age, I'm sure they are becoming quite costly to maintain, as engineering has come a long way since the 70s and I'm sure 50 year old trains don't always behave as well as they used to.
