Lin is one of the smartest players on tour. He developed flick variations to deal with every type of serve, usually anticipates the 3rd ball, and is seldom surprised - he is always prepared to grasp the advantage if the returning ball is slow, which won him a lot of points. In this match his rallying is still slightly weaker than Ma Long, but Lin doesn't allow long rallies. He has a consistent game plan that finishes the rally in less than 5 shots, and coupled with Ma Long's slower reaction time, was able to win convincingly.

Watching Longr for the last year, I noticed that sometimes he plays at 70% of his abilities and he is tired of tennis. He wants to be replaced by younger players and retire.
