These experts I don't even understand why they get paid. Dallas Turner would not have put us through the playoffs into the Super Bowl and they would never got a quarterback like Michael pinnick's junior over the next 4 years if Kurt cousins was the quarterback. Doesn't take a whole lot of intelligence to see what Atlanta did here?Which is something they probably might not get to do again for a long time.Which is picking the top tint, but Kurt causes also aint gonna bring a Super Bowl. Agree with u… instead we have a top 2/3 backup qb and a guy who can make sure we don’t have a drop off because of injury.. 66 qb starters last year… so yeah we r fucking set. Also if cousins balls the fuck out and go crazy n we win- fuck yes. Penix learns how to win from a truly amazing human. Learns a different way to lead n be a leader from a guy like Kirk who is different from him. In year 3 when Kirk is cut/traded n Penix is still in rookie deal n we r a Super Bowl contender in his first year at qb. Everyone gonna shove it
The only thing preventing the Falcons from winning the division the past 2 seasons have been the play of the quarterback. They got Kirk, but Kirk is coming off an injury, by drafting Penix, they ensure that even if Cousins goes down, we will still have stability at the qb position. And this is a move that is to make the qb position not an issue for the next decade.

Penix is legit. A talent at the most important position in sports. Last year, backups played a lot. Those practices will be better given they have two different quarterbacks to give that defense all the looks.
We signed Kirk because we needed him, a pass rusher will not take us into the playoffs, good QB play is what we've been missing! The fact they don't understand that we did that move to have a replacement in place if Kirk gets hurt, and then we're back where we were with henieke to lead us! 😂 Come on man 😂
I agree with you about the Dallas Turner comment that they made. But they had Rome Odunze sitting there that could make an impact this year. There were certainly many more needs that Atlanta needed. Michael Penix is a good quarterback but if the coaches were concerned about the quarterback depth in the event Kirk Cousins got hurt why did they sign him to a 4 year 180M contract a month before the draft?

Plus, they have no idea what they have in Penix…he could be bust…he could be great. And if he is a bust then they still got Kirk on the roster to win games.

It’s more nuanced than that. If Cousins plays out his contract Penix will be 27/28 before he’s ever a starter. Even if he’s good you won’t have any time to build around him while he’s on a rookie contract and you may have wasted some of his best years. If your goal is to win a SB you go ALL IN. You don’t hedge your bet. You can’t serve 2 masters. First rule in business. You’re either all in or you’re not.

The Falcons have repeatedly said that Kirk is starting. Even if Penix looks good, he's still playing against vanilla defenses and back-up players trying to make the roster. Pre-season doesn't mean anything.
@Paula-mv8im Of course, the plan is for Cousins to start. Plans don't always work out, so smart coaches try to have a backup plan. Penix is trying to learn the schemes, learn pro football, and be a good teammate. Cousins seems to be the insecure one because all Penix has said is he will give his best every day. Cousins has been on good teams, and in all his time, he has 1 playoff win. When Cousins joined the Vikings, their defense was number 1, and the offense was number 3, yet he couldn't win. Cousins is not Brady, Montana, or Mahomes. As for vanilla defense, every one of them players are professional. Let them hit you and tell me are they vanilla.

And if cousins is healthy and not winning. Idk how Penix will do better. At this moment. Because he’s not better right now. He’s not as good at reading defenses. Or throwing on time. And he don’t run as much anyway. So it’s not like he’s bringing much more to the table then cousins. He’s just a good thrower that can become a great Quarterback and to do that. He need to sit and learn the NFL.
