I'm a manga reader and I have no complaints so far! It totally carries the spirit of the manga intro and the animation and voices are everything I could wish for! I'm very pleased so far!

Fruits Basket was the first manga I ever read and first anime I ever watched. I have so many memories of it that I can't watch the new adaptation without loving every bit of it. I'm so glad there are still people who haven't watched/read the story and I can hear their unbiased opinions.

I definitely love this animation already. I know some people are complaining that the early 2000s anime was more in the comedic side that the original anime watchers fell in love with. However, this reboot will bring you so many different emotions and is so deep. This anime will no doubt be the type of anime that'll hold a small place to your heart, regardless of being a manga reader, an original anime watcher or even a new comer.

I'm back! I haven't watch you in a while (since rage of bahamut: virgin soul... whoops) I have both read all the manga and seen the original anime. This new adaptation is absolutely beautiful! It is also refreshing to hear many of the old voices make a return. Honestly, the original anime was good... but not the best. I loved it because I had read the manga, but I am so excited for the full story to finally be told and I am so impressed with the first episode of this version.

Loved the manga, wasn’t the biggest fan of the 2001 anime bc, just like you said, it deviated too much from the manga, it wouldn’t have been able to tell the full story of it tried to continue. As for the the reboot, I am LOVING it. With the knowledge that this is going to the tell the full story, just based off the first ep, I think it is going to do this story justice and tell it the way it deserves. My only negative comment is that I’m impatient and don’t want to wait a week for each ep lol and if you like the the personalities and how they play off each other now then you’ll really like the future characters. Very well written! I’ll be looking forward to future reviews! Love seeing how furuba looks through fresh eyes!

im very glad this is getting an adaptation, this was an important manga for me growing up and have some hard life lessons i use as one of my main guidelines to this day, im debating getting a Tohru themed tattoo sometime in the future.

I also didn't read the manga or seen the original anime Yeah, I totally agree with what you said. The animation was of very high quality, and I really liked Tohru. Seems like a great character! The other characters were pretty strange and I'm really not sure were the story is heading to, but I'm definitely going to be watching

When the anime goes on you will learn everybody's background story and you will fall in love with all the zodiac signs. En you will understand why they act that way.

I loooove watching you review this. I grew up with this story. I watched the anime when I was younger then read the manga and absolutely fell in love. I have watched and read this story annually every year since. It is so fun to watch you talk about this series, it let's me get back into that mindset of a first viewing and I get to watch you enjoy something I have loved for so long and it really helps me enjoy this new adaptation even deeper than what surface level enjoyment I would have already had. You can count me in for the entirety of this series and a subscription. Good going, and I look forward to watching you every week!

I was surprised. I was worried Fruits Basket wasn't going to be adapted well I love the original series and the manga. The music for the original series was going to be removed so I was worried it was going to feel different. But it felt the same as the original anime and the manga. It gave off the same feelings and emotions and didn't make me miss the original soundtrack. This new one is good. I was worried for nothing. The original will always have a special place in my heart but this new adaptation is really good and exciting and on episode 1 I'm already liking it, like I did the original.

As a huge fan of this manga, this series is everything I wished for and more. The original anime has a nostalgic place in my heart but it’s not great. This is a vast improvement and I utterly adore they kept as many actors from the original dub to do this one as well, so sweet ❤️

Oh man, You're in for a ride, I'll tell ya. XD I really liked the anime when my friend forced me to watch it (I wasn't into the cutsie anime as a teen). I decided to read the manga and was like.... HOLY COW, this is ridiculous in the best way. I never expected it to go where it did, and to this day it's one of my fav series ever. I can't wait for everything that wasn't adapted before to be shown.

I'm an anime original who hasn't watched the older anime and I'm also not really the type of person to watch romance animes (even though I'm a girl) but I heard a lot of good things about Fruits Basket so I gave this episode a try... and well.. I actually really liked it! There were a few jokes in the episode that actually got a genuine chuckle out of me and trust me, I've NEVER laughed at an anime before, so getting a chuckle is already pretty darn good. That doesn't mean any anime I watch is bad because they can't get a laugh out me, I have a hard time laughing at structured jokes. So a chuckle from me is already great in my book. The style was a bit of a turn off for me since I'm not too into the classic/retro style of anime, but the whole premise/characters/personality made me really interested to see where the anime goes. I also love animals soooo yeah XD Can't wait to see the next episode!

this episode in a lot of ways bring a sense of nostalgia but while at the same time felt so new and I absolutely love it. the only issue with it is they never going to use the original soundtrack which what made us love fruits baskets in the first place. but still good episode.

I'm in the middle of re-watching this but I'll let you know all about the personality this first episode had when I first watched it - at the time, I hadn't read the manga nor had I watched the older anime - this single episode intrigued me enough to go and look up the whole manga and I finished it before episode three aired - so needless to say, it hooked me pretty hard and it's probably in my top 10 manga as of now.

As someone that read the manga about 80 times over and watched the original anime a couple of times. I'm very pleased with the new anime version. I think your review is spot on. Even the little comments that add personality to stories in manga are added as slightly drowned out comments in the background of the main dialog which honestly makes it feel like I'm WATCHING a MANGA! I love it ♥

decided to come back and rewatch this now that we're going into the second half of s2, officially the midpoint if all manga reader estimations are right that it'll be 3 seasons. and the second half of the manga is by far my favorite half of Furuba. so, did you ever imagine that this "not just a reverse harem, not your typical shojo" story was going to be where it is now? :D

As a manga reader, and someone who has also watched the original version, this reboot of Fruits Basket is just perfection! The original anime is good, but, as you have mentioned, it didn't include sooo many of the plot points and have really gone off the direction of the manga. I'd say that the original anime is more comedy focused while the reboot is really dark and a more serious adaptation, compared to the original .

I read the manga and have seen both anime adaptations. I love both anime adaptations for what they bring to the table; the 2001 anime had some amazing comedy but the new anime stays true to the manga.

I'm a big fan, own the original anime and the original manga, and I honestly still see merits to the original anime separate from this new adaptation. It's particularly apparent because of the returning dub cast, but the original anime was definitely scripted and performed to play up the absurdity and comedy in everything and that's still so beautiful and charming. They keep all the comic scenes for the new adaptation, but the style and scripting has been greatly mellowed down in comparison. This particular change in direction makes perfect sense because the original was not working from the whole manga so they wanted to play up the material they had, and most of that was light hearted and funny. Adapting the whole thing definitely requires more nuance and the serious moments are definitely going to land so much harder because of it. I do miss the extra playfulness of the original dub though. And this first episode also did take an interesting change that, to me, suggests that it's not going to be as accurate an adaptation to the manga as people are expecting - it is simply going to be a full adaptation and certain comic side story arcs are already being condensed as of this first episode. This adaptation is definitely focusing on the drama.

As someone who read the manga, I absolutely loved this first episode! It was everything that I was hoping it would be! As for my opinion on the original, I'd say it's a love-hate relationship. I love the original anime, but there are a lot of things that were either added in, left out, or changed that effected character, story, and relationship development later on that resulted in the series being different than the manga. Like there were a lot of things that the original adapted right, but when it adapted things wrong, it really adapted them wrong. Hence my, and a lot of other people who've read the manga, love-hate relationship with the original series.

k so I watched the old anime when I was much younger and I loved it a lot. I later went on to read the manga, and I soon realised the 2001 anime lacked so much, didn't tell the whole story, the animation was meh, I just found myself wanting a reboot. I rewatched the 2001 anime about a year ago for nostalgia reasons and I still felt these things. Fast forward to now I am EXTREMELY happy with this first episode, it was like the first episode from the 2001 version but 10x better

the year was 2012, I was a young 20 somethin hipster otaku browsing MAL for anime to watch...I came across Fruits Basket and thought man this looks stupid and girly I doubt it will be cool...But the whole Chinese Zodiac's premise sounded interesting...midway thru binging I was hooked and emotionally attached.
