My current workflow involves sketching out the basic ideas for my track using my Maschine Mk3 (basically building loops) and then dragging over the audio versions of those ideas as stems into Ableton to build the track, record some live bass and guitar (I prefer recording in Ableton) where appropriate and apply some finishing touches. It works well for me and a big part of what makes it so effective is that a lot of my software instruments and effects work right in the Maschine software as they would any other DAW. Sadly, you can't do this with a lot of the best stuff (even many of NI's own plug-ins) with the Maschine+ when it's in stand-alone mode. This means that the idea of being able to kick back and do that kind of work without being attached to a computer is just a fantasy, at least for me. I can see how for someone who is just getting into the Maschine ecosystem/workflow and wants a fancier enclosure and the ability to at least build their drum beats and do a few other things away from the computer this product could be a good one, but it's not for me. If the Maschine+ were really capable of running all (or at least most) of Native Instrument's own VSTs and a decent selection of the NKS-compatible ones by other manufacturers (like Arturia and iZotope's plug-ins, for example) in stand-alone mode without needing to be tethered to a computer then it would be an absolutely incredible piece of kit. As it stands though it just doesn't run enough of the things that I would like it to when not plugged into the computer to justify the purchase price for me. Maybe the next version of the Maschine+ will deliver on more of the idea's potential and if so then I may well be a buyer. I'd even be prepared to invest at a higher price point if it meant basically getting a decent laptop-level of performance out of the device in terms of what it can run and how well it can run it.

Asked NI this morning if Kontakt 7 going to get integrated into the Maschine plus and rep told me that it’s been deprioritized because optimized for mouse and keyboard. Sad that I’ll have to keep my $1300 plus tax in pocket and continue use my laptop as a Sound Module with Komplete 13(14 soon)

Context: I’ve had an MPC Live, a Force, and now have a Maschine and can’t really understand the comments regarding it being underpowered but I guess that it’s subjective. Is it to do with claims or expectation that it can run the same amount of stuff as a Maschine plugged into a computer?Having come from an MPC/Force background I suppose I just don’t expect it to do that. NI are not the same size company as a laptop maker so they are never going to be able to make something with the same power for anything like the same price although I don’t think it’s over priced. It’s the same price as the Force in the UK and offers oodles for the money. There are limitations to MPC/Force e.g. 8 virtual instrument tracks but they don’t seem to get the same stick. I also see a lot of false maths in relation to both platforms where a single instrument is loaded and the CPU jumps to 20% ergo it’s underpowered. On both platforms adding another instrument seems to hardly impact it (instrument not lots of fx as well). So those figures can be misleading. If I didn’t have a Maschine Plus I probably wouldn’t buy one now due to the constant complaints of poor CPU performance but I wonder if it’s simply the case that a minority are the most vocal. I’m using mine without issue as a standalone and it’s the centre of my studio. That is unless I press a button and my DAW is because y’know other VSTs and full DAW functionality. Anyway, I may have a different opinion to anyone reading this but it just seems right for me to say something positive about the Plus since all I hear is negativity which I don’t think is representative. Disclaimer: I came to Plus ownership in the last six months so it’s likely that it’s improved since it’s release much like the Force did 😅

@dannydecanhas3743
@dannydecanhas3743 2 года назад
Agreed. Ultimate standalone shouldn't go with anything that's not Akai. And from what I've been told... The bugs and crashes make it basically useless in standalone mode. You have to have it connected to run somewhat smooth. Better off buying the Maschine mk3 if that's the case. Half the price
@Sypher474
@Sypher474 Год назад
@@dannydecanhas3743 Maschine+ performance issues are the most ridiculously overblown non-issue I've ever encountered. I purposely avoided Maschine for a long time, but I'd tried nearly every other bit of hardware groovebox out there, so I recently gave up and got a +. Since then, I've switched to using it almost exclusively as the hub for all my work, completely standalone, and I've had a grand total of three crashes in around 4 months. All of them were before the most recent firmware update, and before I upgraded the included SD card. None since, and they added an autosave/recovery thing anyway, so even if it does, you won't lose more than a couple minutes work. CPU performance is absolutely fine. If you build a track from scratch, and aren't lazily using bundled 'Groups' that have a million needless effects on every single sound, there are never issues. If you really push it on purpose to see where it breaks, you can get it to clip, but not in any 'real world' scenario I've encountered.

How good is it compare to MPC One ?
@djjuno106
@djjuno106 2 года назад
They’re different..I have both and they both offer something the other doesn’t..too be honest I prefer the workflow and pads on the maschine. If you already have the akai mpc hardware and you don’t mind it hooked up to a computer then I’d buy the non standalone version such as mikro/mk3..there cheaper but do everything the standalone version does and more.. On the standalone mashine hardware it won’t let you use 3rd party vsts/fx also your limited too how many tracks you can use and which native instruments plugins which will work on this…but the cheaper hardware plugged to your computer is pretty much limitless.

If you currently have neither MPC nor Maschine, then MPC One is a better purchase by a long mile. Akai is far more committed to improving and updating the MPC than NI is about Maschine.
@nickgilday8946
@nickgilday8946 Год назад
@@mysticsailor9 I think that is a little off base. Akai certainly pushes out a lot more hardware products, but it wasn't too long ago that people were scoffing at the MPC rennaissance (for example) and pointing towards Maschine saying "this is how you do it". Companies go through ups and downs and have different paths to execute their vision. Competition drives this often times too, so we'll see what NI has up their sleeve next. They have worked recently to broker mergers and acquisitions which could lead to some really exciting prospects for Maschine. It's not too surprising that big "sexy" updates to the plus haven't come out in the interim of all that change, but they have fixed the biggest problem - stability issues. Now that they are partnered with Izotope and formed Soundwide with other companies, who knows what's on the horizon.
@mysticsailor9
@mysticsailor9 Год назад
@@nickgilday8946 Well all opinions of course (and I have both systems)..but to me Akai is knocking it out of the park with updates and NI , other than the recent auto-sampling, has not made any progress in years..and it needs it..lol
@nickgilday8946
@nickgilday8946 Год назад
@@mysticsailor9 I hear ya I'm just saying that this same critique was being made agains akai years ago as well. Companies have to plan for big advances in their tech, can't just magically make it happen right away. I think your not wrong that NI got too comfortable when Maschine was the unit people were looking at and saying "why can't any of my MPC's do this". Years later Akai got it together and has come out swinging. Now NI seems to be planning SOMETHING. Could it be that they are doubling down as more of a plugin/vst company than anything else? Sure. But could it be that they are planning a shit ton of integrations with the plus or even other bigger things we haven't really thought of? Also very possible. Gotta let it play out.

OK ok ... watched this and recognised the comments on low CPU power and ... I do guess the answer to this discussion regarding all "self contained devices" should be: "does it do the job" ⁉ If you want something up-gradable ... stick to your PC or Mac .... BUT always take into account: there are technology switches/transitions on PC & Mac hardware which you can't upgrade too‼ Maschine is a great platform to make music anyway ...

Guys, you definetely need to be way more precise with the infos you give out to potential buyers! Maschine+ is not capable of running all of NI' s Komplete VSTs in standalone mode. In fact the instruments that come with it and that work in standalone mode (Monark, Massive e.g.) are special ported versions of these instruments to work with Maschine+, neither do most of their VST effects. If you want to use all of Komplete and 3rd party stuff, you still need to work in controller mode tethered to a computer.
@BecomingProductions
@BecomingProductions 2 года назад
I wish, but unfortunately it's under spec quite massively. Some preset projects that come with some NI expansions will have this ground to a halt. It had so much potential but the CPU just isn't powerful enough for what the device needs. Of course there's workarounds and ways to use it conservatively. At that price you shouldn't have to though. Also the implementation of the included plugins isn't great. They're fine as preset browsers but for the most part you can't create patches from scratch as you don't have access to some fundamental parameters. For example, you have Massive, a wavetable synth, and you can't select different wavetables. The only option if you want access to all parameters is to create a patch on your laptop and transfer it over. That's fine if they admitted that, but advertising it as having full plugin synths like FM8 and Massive standalone simply isn't true unless you're happy just browsing presets.
@theclaverman
@theclaverman 2 года назад
I`ll pretty sure the biggest limitation to The Machine + (or any modern electronic instrument) is not its specs, but a man called Dave Kavanagh (...or Simon Madsen for that matter). Hits have been made on devices with far greater limitations. I think we have become pretty spoiled when it comes to music technology....
@BecomingProductions
@BecomingProductions 2 года назад
@@theclaverman judging a device on its ability to make a "hit" doesn't really hold up. By that standard every piece of music tech is infinitely more advanced than what was available decades ago so therefore there is no bad music gear. That's simply not the case. Not all of us are interested in writing hits. Some of us would be content if the device they paid over a grand for could open it's own sample projects without crashes, artifacts and dropouts from the underpowered cpu. Theres plenty of less advanced and less powerful devices that don't suffer from the pitfalls that Maschine Plus does. Theyre typically designed to run well within their own limitations. That cannot be said of Maschine Plus. You can load a small selection of it's built in kits and grind the machine to a halt. Spin it any way you like but a modern expensive device like that should be held to modern standards and expectations.. Yes there are workarounds available for some of it's issues but this is meant to be a high end device, workarounds shouldn't be required.
