Is it just me or does Flossy look way better at the end of the video? Also, we're only 10 people away from ONE HUNDRED Patreon supporters. If you want to help support the content from the PCT and beyond, check out www.patreon.com/kylehateshiking/ Love you all.
bandana usually suck at absorption. I'm gonna keep burp cloth in mind. golf towel usually has a clip or a hole with a grommet. maybe one of those would be nice. also easy to attach to the outside of the pack. hmmm
Y'all probably already know this but "The One" has a pretty slippery floor so you might want to see how your sleeping pad reacts so you're not surprised by it out on the trail.
When I seam sealed my SMD Skyscape Trekker, I used the leftover silicon sealant to paint stripes on the floor. Works well for providing some tackiness to the floor to grip the sleeping pad.
You get couple of strip of KT tape. It saved me when I tweaked my ankle. San Jacinto Mtn has flying bitey bugs. I hope you treated your things with permethrin. I hope you guys are planning to get to California early before starting. The weather here is way different so get yourselves a little time to acclimate. Get ready to use rocks when pitching tent here. Some areas will be too rocky.
Love Flossy! My feedback on the new version of GG Trekking poles (my previous pair lasted 6 plus years): My second trip was out in the Gila Wilderness along part of the CDT and one pole completely snapped and splintered. The trail was pretty average, slight rocky, but not what you'd see heading up to a pass or anything as bad as that. It was the lower section that busted. I decided next time, I'm not going to telescope those bottom sections all the way to "stop" like I usually do, and telescope the middle section, which is a little wider, out longer to compensate for the length. I don't know if this will add any strength to the pole or not. Honestly, I lost confidence in them and am not as likely to use them on tougher hikes here in CO because I need a reliable pole for my tarp set up and getting through trails on the CT. Good luck with yours. Have some back up trekking poles ready. I just don't feel like the quality is there with this newer versions. A thought regarding your HG quilt.....sometimes the dirt and oils from using it will begin making the down feathers stick together and lose loft, therefore losing warmth. Washing it will help and restore warmth and make it like new again. Good luck and have a super successful trip out there!
You won't find any ticks in the Sierra Nevadas but there are deer ticks that carry Lyme disease in the Trinity Alps and the Klamath National Forest before you pass into Oregon have a great adventure be safe stay healthy
Yo Kyle and Flossy: Just a little note about “The One.” I had a ton of issues with it blowing over in wind. Maybe I’m just dumb and wasn’t securing it in totality though. Best of luck on the hike!
We definitely have ticks here on the west coast but as a buddy of mine from Connecticut so elegantly put it, the ticks over here are "like great big puppy dogs". They are huge and have a tendency to just cuddle up with you rather than burrow in right away. I pulled 3 off my pants yesterday one out of my belly button.
Yeah most of the places you'd hang one you're forced to carry a bear can anyway so y'all can just leave that apparatus at home. except find another use for the rock bag because it's dope
Suggestion that you may or may not decide to take… look at some D.B. content to decide what chair will work best. Maybe also a chair support thing? 🤣 Have a great time guys! Had to make an edit: Maybe D.B. Can do a gear shakedown for you? Seriously would be the ultimate in laughs!
oh man, i'm so glad you told flossy to smack his backpack. i swear this is something you perpetually see in ALL GEAR VIDEOS. why is this a thing? anyway, wish you both the best of luck on the pct!
Pro tip: decathlon sells an accordion style sleep pad for like 20 dolla!! It's so cheap you can cut it up and have multiple sit pads, kneeling pads, tent entrances, etc.
Holy sh*t Kyle. Don’t let him talk so much anymore or you may get seriously upstaged. Wow. I mean I’m presuming your writing and production have a big impact here but still. And tbh he’s kind of hotter too but in a different way. Speaking of which, it would be cool if you guys were like a couple. Not ribbing you, just saying it would be a neat addition to RU-vid/hiking culture- were it the case and not saying it should or shouldn’t be.
I’m disappointed you haven’t made the life changing move of getting an Uber cool camp chair. I don’t expect-much from Kyle but your better than this Flossy.
After almost 5,000 miles (and still using my original Leki poles, except for one pole replacement on first AT thru-hike) I can't imagine removing the straps. I find them particularly useful on steeper elevation changes (esp. descents) and/or when I'm pushing it to my limit. Plus the straps are great for hanging the poles in shelters when not in use.
