Dibu doesn't need to change. Not every footballer needs to be a copy paste version of each other like a factory default. Modern football may have forgotten it but football had the most colourful and unique characters.
Completely agree, the man has personality, khan had it, dida had it…also dibu with the antics breaks the guys mentally….theres nothing more frightening knowing this man can save my shots and he’s confident…these analysts seemingly disapprove guys with confidence esp internationals.
@@john-ramsesthomas7302 Also the Penalty taker double thinks his actions "If he saves this, not only are we closer to losing, he'll dance on our graves"
Maybe they need to drop Messi for the semi if he doesn’t improve. They were basically carrying him and are lucky to have won despite it. You can’t afford any passengers in the semi and he needs to do the right thing if he’s not ready as no one is going to drop him if he says he’s good when he’s clearly not. This isn’t the MLS where he can still look good even when he’s not fully fit.
@@fatih8053 ikr , they also behaving like they have to be there by force lol. He’s (di Maria) arguably the reason why they won the WC. The chances he created out of nothing is unbelievable.
@@hammstnbI think Scaloni knows he's not getting sacked either way since he won Argentina the World Cup he's doing it on purpose knowing that AFA won't fire him anyways.
@@dagosegovia843 Pepe is 41 and starter cb for Portugal.. A soccer player being 41 is prob the same as a regular person being 34, since they do tough training and have strict diets. Only reason why players retire prior is due to injury or lack of motivation.
Caicedo had an underwhelming Copa America? He has been 1 of Ecuador’s best players, if not the best, & hence why he got 2 POTM awards in this tournament
It's about class When Messi missed ,he was consoled by the Ecuadorian goalkeeper. When the second Ecuadorian missed his penalty Martinez showed him up . He's a good goalie ,but he has no class. I can just imagine what you would have said if the Ecuadorian goalie would have mocked Messi for missing.
These men talked all negative things about Messi when he missed a PK and not very active during the game. I can't imagine how they would talk about him if Argentina lost to Ecuador today. The truth is throughout the game, everybody (both his team and fans) waited for a magic moment that Messi would do for his team. To me, today Messi didn't do any magic. That's it. You guys questioned why the coach didn't replace him. If you guys know better than Scaloni, why don't you guys help your national team to win a WC? Ecuador played a very physical game. The game had to stop every few minutes because of some player getting some injury. The ref didn't do a good job to solve the problem. He stopped the game when it was unnecessary, and he let it go inappropriately. Well, Messi got a pretty bad injury in Chile game. I don't think he wanted to get another injury. I trust Messi as a fan. The coach trusts him. His team trusts him. We don't teach him what to do. Hope that he will get 100% recover and play better in next game.
Caicedo has easily been one of the best players in the entire tournament. In no way has he been underwhelming. In fact, he’s been excellent for a large part of the year.
I can’t count the amount of games that Messi won absolutely by himself ever since 2006. We’re in 2024. Give the guy a break and leave him alone. I think being the best in the world for over 15 years not only is unheard of, I think it’s more than enough. He’s 37 and he’s injured.
True and for that reason the guys said he should have let other player to step in because this is an important stage and match, so why he insisted to play? That is a question mark. So since he was stubborn and jeopardize his team, he deserves all criticism.
Yes I agree but messi should also accept that he wasn't in condition and should have trusted his team to win and just tried to be fit for semi's. I love him but I am disappointed in him today.
Yea, Ronaldo is 3 years older than Messi and playing in more competive league&tournaments and yet people talk bad about him. Let the goats rest and dont diss others
If messi never played today then Argentina wouldve never scored a goal probably, messi took a corner kick and it leaded up to a goal, hes still the engine of the team and at least did something while not 100% fit
They were lucky to win tbf. They have to bench him for the semi snd hope he’s fit for the final. You can’t afford to be carrying anyone at this stage. This isn’t the MLS where an unfit Messi can still look good.
I agree with almost all they are saying but they are missing out on one fact... This is a team that have learnt to play or not show up and still manage to win. You can stick De Paul and the midfielders for the poor performance but they know how to stick it to the dying minute and give Dibu the chance to do his thing... They win no matter how badly they play and it is not a fluke... They may be lucky but when you are always lucky or always seem to be lucky then you have something going that people are not taking note of.
He was clearly not match fit and maybe Argentina might be better off having him on the bench in the semi as he was a liability in this game. They won despite him. You can’t afford to be carrying a player in such a pivotal position even Messi in such an important game.
I think it's not luck alone. At times experience gets you ahead. It's experience that got Argentina through just like real Madrid does in Champions league. You can't always play good football but with experience you find a way to get through matches.
The midfield was awful today. The only time Argentina looked like scoring a goal was when Messi got the ball. Messi was the only one breaking the lines. But unfortunately, he was not getting the ball today at all.
Bro. Keller is just hating on Dibu because he was never even half as good. “I don’t like the antics” thats what makes him Dibu. Argentina owe their run to Dibu. Period. Argentina did have a really bad game. Luck isn’t gonna get them past Uruguay.
No ones talking about how Argentina played with 4 midfielders plus messi at top. Thats clearly why they played bad they had no one who posed a danger in runing in behind so what you have is a congested midfield. There was no reason to start nico gonzales when you could have had garnacho or di maria. You need outlets so messi can shine in the pockets of space but there was no space created for him to be in
Playing 4 midfielders and Messi would be fine if you controlled the midfield. But even those 4 weren't enough as Ecuador's 3 man midfield of Caicedo, Franco (who plays in Brazil), and Gruezo (who plays for the last place Quakes in MLS) won the midfield battle more often than not.
@@donviajero2580 they need to create width so their center mids can control the midfield . having Nico and de paul as left and right mids isn't good enough. Ecuador wasn't even worried about them because they know they're faster than them and won't get beat 1v1 which is why they were compressing the midfield so much to prevent Argentina from dominating the midfield and getting the ball to messi in dangerous areas of the pitch. Argentina were outplayed and lucky
With all respect to the 🐐 lionel messi I think he is injured he should not play full 90 minutes he must come off the bench clearly he was struggling today
Notice how no Messi fans claim ESPN hates Messi when they day Messi was bad. That's cus Messi fans are in touch with reality and don't let their emotional investment to Messi cloud their judgements Any time Ronaldo is criticized, his fans are always defensive and claim ESPN hates him😅
Well said. Ronny fans are so quick to play victim when EPSN Roasts Ronaldo for a bad performance. Pretending like the whole world is against their idol 🤣🤣
@@genzislady3820 well said. But the Ronny fans and Messi haters are just waiting for him to finally fall so they can finally let out all that anger and frustration and have their “laugh”. Kind of sad really 🤣🤣

Great give him a statue or a wing in a museum and thank you we won’t be needing you for 2026 Yeboah is the guy from now on OUT WITH SANCHEZ
Absolutely, the team has so much potential even without estupinan this game who would’ve made a massive difference. A good coach can take this team to the next level
A good win or a horrible win is still a win...Congrats Argentina for being in the semifinals once again......Martinez was clearly the man of the match.
@@tonytellingitlikeitis5708Wassup brother. I never forgot hope you gave me during the world cup after the 1st loss against Saudi Arabia! You’re the Goat 🐐
I'm glad Martinez is stepping up now after 35 year old Messi carried them in the world cup. Dibu also is amazing, without him they wouldn't be world champions!
He did get carried. I’m not gonna act like his presence and mentality on the field carried his teammates like a certain fanbase does. Messi doesnt need to always be praised, he’s already proved it all.
Ale is right, Messi’s non movement is starting to become an issue. I think a team like Colombia and Uruguay can exploit that, especially with their physical midfielders
Messi came back from an injury he got an injury in the 2nd game missed the 3rd game and rushed back for this. It doesn't matter who you are Messi, Pele, Maradona, R9, Zidane etc you come back from an injury and not fully recovered yet and play in game especially a copa america game you will struggle you will have a bad game it's inevitable. It's not like messi forgot how to pass the ball or dribble in just 3 games.
Ah yes because Enzo and De Paul had terrific games 🤪 Lets get it straight Enzo was terrible in the midfield and more atrocious than Messi by misplacing passes. De Paul running around like a squirrel and no contribution. When you have basically your midfield non-existent you can lose games. The game is won or lost in the midfield
Emi Martinez stepping up like a legend. Ecuador played well. Lot of grit and determination. Needed a top goalkeeper performance to get Argentina over the line.
You see these pundits apart from Ale don't know anything about football. Caicedo was by FAR the best player of Ecuador (achieving two MVPs) as well as part of the best 11 in the Group Stage. Yet they say he had an "UNDERWHELMING" tournament and praise Gruezo? Come on ESPN, you are more than this!
He just underperformed 😢😮...u can justify but the guy is dead wood 🪵 ...hamstring injuries are his games now plus, no endurance, no aggression...just walking...you can see he is there for appearance not football and hope he does one thing positively talk about but never came only misses, lethargic, too reliant on other players with less work ethic...if there is a player that has to retire its Leo...he has to make the call. He always has excuses and no solutions...he was not moving from point to point😢
Garbage formation by Scaloni. 4-4-2 doesn’t work for Argentina majority of the times, specially with Nico Gonzales starting. The Team starts playing more defensive and leaves Lautaro and Messi alone up top. 4-3-3 with Di Maria, Lautaro and Messi up top is the best and most fluid formation for Argentina. They could’ve even lost the game today, really lucky Ecuador missed the pk and header in regular time.
@@danchan5620 He's created the most chances at the tournament, despite only playing 3 games, and not being fully fit in two of those. You should take your own advice and sit this one out.

These players seemed to be looking ahead to the semis and really dropped the levels other than McCallister. Enzo was awful. Many of Argentina’s lost possession in midfield came down to Enzo and McCallister. They need to improve.
How boring it wld be if players cannot show their personality. Martinez is passionate about winning for his club and country. He works hard in training to improve and has a great all round game and when it comes to penalties he has fun with the opposition fans, with trying to get inside the pen takers heads and he does. The game needs more personalities like Emi not less.
What you expect doesn't happen everytime. You expect Argentina would have easy today doesn't happen. You expect Venezuela if qualify would punish Argentina, you will see a different game in semi final.
I think they should drop him for the semi as they should win without him and hope he’s fit for the final. This isn’t the MLS where he can still look good against average teams even when not fully fit.
Copa America is so frustrating to watch , there's a tackle/foul every minute. It's very difficult for teams to get in their rhythm when there's fouls all the time. Refereeing is just terrible in this competition.
It's just the way how scrappy South American teams played. I enjoyed that aspect, a foul is a foul, but teams know how to match the intensity of the other. In the case of Ecuador, they matched the intensity of Argentina's midfield.
@@tonytellingitlikeitis5708 Interrupting the game every single minute and very rarely booking players for their reckless tackles just destroyes the game for both spectators and actual players. That's why people prefer EURO over Copa America.
Argentina were so lucky. Ecuador could have won the game. Martinez is the king if penalty kicks. He was probably the main reason for Argentina to win both Copa America and the World Cup, and maybe this Copa America too.
Fact. In the world cup they have 8 penalty shootouts and 7 wins. Best record in history. Spain or England can never win a penalty shootout (unless they're playing against eachother lol).
Alejandro. The Netherlands and France also had the momentum going into extra time v Argentina in the world cup. Argentina were on the ropes then, but found the strength to take the momentum back and nearly win the games. By the way, it's not Argentina unless they stumble versus a small football nation in a tournament. Remember saudi Arabia?
You need this kind luck..Yes Equador was good and respect for them. But you need someone to step up and that's what called a team..Argentina will be back in next game
Enzo Fernandez was awful today. This is what being in Chelsea does to you. Worst club in the world makes good players drop their levels to tier 3 team players.
Relax caicedo was immaculate yeah tier 3 it's Chelsea's fault you jealous clown your jealousy is embarrassing watch him in the semis then we'll talk your club can't afford players like Enzo you poppers foh
This is why Messi is playing in the MLS where he can still look good. He’s not the player he was even at PSG, but time catches up with us all in the end. He probably wasn’t match fit and Argentina might have played better without him as he contributed very little going forwards, but they were hoping he’d have a moment of brilliance, but he just wasn’t moving enough to do anything.
Argentina weren't at their best clearly but glad that they got the job done, this penalties things after 90 minutes literally gives you a mini heart attack. Messi is still carrying that injury unfortunately
Argentina was not interested in playing this game today. They came out with no energy, no desire to win this game. They played horrible. They got lucky to win and move on. Messi looked like he rather be at home playing video games. Maybe is the heat during training. Something made them extremely lethargic.
They were very lucky to get to pens, but always knew they had Martinez to save them. Messi needs to be rested for the semi, they can win without him and hope he’s fit for the final. Playing him in the semi could mean him missing the final entirely.
Martinez is just something else. Messi's mistake, but all other Argentine players put them in clinically. They are just very good in penalties. It's not just Martinez, they have ALWAYS been very good in penalties, decades before Martinez. Sergio Goycochea, Carlos Roa, Sergio Romero, etc. In the World Cup they've had 8 penalty shootouts and they have won 7. That is not a coincidence or luck.

Sir, Messi and his team know what they are doing. You don't need to teach them how to play soccer. I agree Messi played a very bad game today. Yet, he knows what he's doing. They will figure out what they need to improve for next game,
They should win the semi without him and hope he’s in better shape for the final. Playing him in the semi if not fully fit will only make it worse in the final for him.
The reason Argentina look so bad that game was because Di Maria didn’t play, Messi & Di Maria r the last 2 players on the team that knows the true Argentine way of football, the tiki-taka knowing the cheeky plays & the passes where u just know he’s there without looking & so on, the rest of players r playing more European football & that’s why Messi having a hard time controlling the midfield & scoring when he’s making the cheeky runs on goal one no see the lines on the play but Di Maria, they have to play out the rest of the tournament together to win it
The difference Ronaldo had the penalty in extra time if had scored Portugal would have won before going to the penalty shootout while messi missed in the shootout but emi saved argentina and that's what happens in the shootout it's either the goalkeepers the hero or the penalty taker and go back to the copa america when messi missed against Chile in the final he got butchered in the media and in argentina they we're burning messi and demanding he leave the team and messi left and what happened? Argentina couldn't even qualify for the 2018 World Cup until messi came back and scored a hattrick against Ecuador and took argentina to the world cups. Now he has won the world cup, the copa america, Olympic gold medal and the finnalisma so what he does now doesn't change the legacy he has created.
