What do you think about the word, Bureadi (Bread). Is it a Yoruba word ? You see all words like this are not Yoruba words but bad pronouns of the original word so that they can sound like Yoruba. Another example, Jesu (Jesus). Some might say that Jesu is the translation of the name Jesus into Yoruba then , why is it that we don’t use the name or word Jesu in ours daily conversation when we speak in Yoruba. Another one is the title, Messaih from the Hebrew or Aramaic, Moshiach. So folks will say that messaih is English and sometime so say it means Christ. All these are not correct, Messaih is a bad pronunciation of the Aramaic word Moshiach which means anointed one or someone who is anointed in English. Moshiach when translated into Greek (the language in which the gospel is preserved) means Christos and from this Christos they derived the word or title Christ. What they did is by removing the OS from the word Christos and we are left with Christ. Kadera is from the Arabic word Qadari which literally means predestination or whatever the Almighty has written which also have the same meaning as Kadera when we use it in Yoruba conversation. Here’s another Arabic word which as jailed walked into our spoken Yoruba. Shina , having sex when two persons having sex without marring each other. Shina is from the Arabic word ZINA which also means having unlawful sex. Will like to hear your comments.
