SpaceX is targeting Saturday for the second flight of Starship. The company has received regulatory approval for the flight. The flight will feature the newly added hot staging ring, allowing the Ship to separate from the Booster while the Booster engines are still firing. The stack features multiple upgrades compared to the first flight, including 63 upgrades SpaceX submitted to the FAA to mitigate issues from the first flight. Ahead of the launch, SpaceX will close the road, evacuate the village and surrounding area, and clear the potential blast radius.
Booster 9 will attempt a soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico, while Ship 25 will attempt to fly around the earth before performing a reentry and hard splashdown in the Hawaiian area.
Window Opens: November 18th at 7AM CST (13:00 UTC)
Window Closes: November 18th at 7:20AM CST (13:20 UTC)
Mission: Starship's second fully integrated test flight
Vehicles: Booster 9 and Ship 25
Recovery: No recovery. Booster will attempt soft splashdown, Ship will not and instead will impact the ocean
Stats:
· SpaceX's 85th launch of the year and the 6th launch of the month
· SpaceX's 2nd space launch from Starbase
· Starship will, once again, become the largest, most massive, and most powerful rocket every created breaking its own record.

There was a big puff of gas on the left-hand side of Starship at T + 07 06, and one to the right at T + 07 39. Those may have been some kind of failure leading to the destruction, although the telemetry still showed all six engines were firing afterwards.

@@hawkdsl The investigation should be quicker, from what I understand, the worst (from an FAA perspective) in the first flight was the rocket not caring about FTS activation This time, it seems that there were far less issues (from a regulatory standpoint); the booster didn't do a mini volcano, FTS worked well on the ship (or it seems like), Raptor reliability seems not to have been an issue and probably some more things that I am forgetting (/didn't see because couldn't see it live and then analyze things) Could be wrong tho (and/or more issues will be evident as time passes)

@semosancus5506 To be fair, the news coming in was pretty confusing. During this stream, all telemetry data stopped for Starship, but SpaceX was reporting to NSF that telemetry was nominal. There was a five minute period where they assumed signal was lost between two receiving points. Then we also heard that Starship was crashed intentionally by Musk? Even all these days later, I'm still confused because everyone who reported on it still has conflicting information! 😒
@semosancus5506
@semosancus5506 10 месяцев назад
@@caucasiansensation147It wouldn't surprise me if Musk pulled the plug on it. He may have been concerned about some failure on re-entry that would further embolden his opponents. There are people out there who would love nothing more than a Musk rocket killing somebody and then they can unleash the full force of the government on him.

Great achievement SpaceX and Elon, you resolved the self destruction of the launch pad and fixed the stage separation issue. The Spaceship actually made it into orbit at 149km altitude at 22000kph. I think a backup data and control system is needed on SpaceShip so just the RUD of the booster to investigate and fix, you must have had data streaming from it so the issue should be obvious. Next time a flight to Hawaii and splash down for both parts of the launch. Congratulations on your success and perseverance.

Nice stream! Launch sound was shit though. And I've seen other channels show super crisp images of the full configuration of raptors burning a purple flame, so beautiful. Perhaps a bit of a rookie mistake to not have someone follow the official stream. If you had, you would have known about the 40s hold having been used... I'm sure you had a lot of people to manage already, but 1 person in your huge team, or just 1 extra person with only that job, could have looked at both streams side by side and manage the mission clock... Perhaps an idea for next time? You'll get better with each time :)

From what i could tell, The boost put too much of a turn on it when it separated to burn back and could not correct itself. It did turn around FAST for how big that thing is, I think if they halved the turn around speed they would of maintained control fine.

Everything considered it was a good test flight. All the Raptors appeared to have a nominal burn up to Shutdown. Hot Staging appeared to go well, could not tell if the staging applied too much force to the booster, but the data should show if it did. I expect that the FTS limits were set very conservatively for the flight and even the slightest deviation from nominal would terminate the flight (booster and second stage). On the bright side the questions the FAA had about the FTS being sufficient, was given the "acid test" twice... Had to look about alot, but seems the Pad came thru OK this time.

I don't know why they insisted on sending such a large rocket into space, ready to fly to the Moon or Mars :-). Maybe it would be worth sending several modules into orbit first, containing fuel tanks, an engine module, and then the habitation module. You can connect all this in orbit and then give the entire system a speed that allows it to effectively break free from the Earth's gravity.
