This was a Single cab Bucket truck or Cherry picker from Belgium. That was abandoned for many years. It was completely rusted out and left for destruction. I got it and brought it back to life. Some people would say it had one foot in the grave.....I would say it was already in the grave and I dug it up and saved it. Stay tuned for the most impossible save ever seen on youtube. 4 restore

What’s the story on the transaxle? Is it the original one? What type of servicing did you have to do apart from the obvious (axle boots, gear oil change, etc)?
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 2 года назад
@@vayabroder729 yea axle boots fresh gear oil and seals. That is it. was in PERFECT condition. I bet this thing had very low miles. Definitely less than 100k km if the engine was protected more it would have been brand new too. it was an x case (factory rebuild) very low miles crank and rods were like new but the case was totally ruined. sheet metal was rusted out too lots of it.

Hopefully this is the hardest project you will ever do. All your years of experience and knowledge came into play here. Most folks would not have been able to do what you have done. This beast would have gone straight into the crusher. Miraculous save.

Mike this is a true work of art. Calling it a restoration doesn’t tell 1/2 the story. Probably the only hand made bucket truck in existence.

no I had to keep lots of the panel fabrication and metal forming out of it. it would be too long for the people who like the 30 min build videos.

Mike you are truly an artist when it comes to all aspects of vehicle restoration ,you have to be unique a passionate person to save any old vehicle in a bad way I take my hat off you ,My dad use to drive a tower wagen ,cherry picker van as we would call them in Wales UK, for repairing the street lights, when he came home from work for lunch I use to sneak out and go up, down and side ways playing fireman wobbling side to side at full height in the box I was about 8years old I loved it even though it was parked on a steep hill on the side of the family house ,thinking now how dangerous it was ,mmmm good memories haha 😆 look forward to more works of art cheers kev

I watched every episode of this resto during lockdown and the Covid year here in Uk..... it was utterly unreal. I found I couldn’t wait for the next part. Gained a huge amount of respect for mike as he scratched his head and came up with cost effective solutions and brilliant repairs. He actually got better and better as he went along. Anyone doing a single cab should watch the series. Never seen anything as rusty as that put back together, and I’ve watched a steam locomotive resto from scrapyard condition. It wasn’t as bad as this Vw. I recon if they raised the titanic, mike could fix it up!! Lol Way to go mike. Thanks for the journey 👍😁

This is a great video Mike. I have watched every video on your progress as they came out and was amazed by every one. After a while images of what you started with escaped my memory but this video made me realize how bad this truck truelly was and how much hard work and talent went into making it what is is today. Over the course of this project, there was many times that I would say to myself "Why the hell is Mike doing it that way?" but in the end, your techniques always worked and it looks great. Your work is top notch. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming. Looking forward to seeing this one done and looking forward to your future projects.

My first attempt to restore anything is the 69 bus I have. I regretted it from the get go. It was and still is so full of holes. I have no talents at all so I depend on friends and out sourcing jobs we can't do. So, after watching this video, I don't feel so bad. There is still a lot of work to do but I don't feel so bad about the holes anymore. It resembles rolling junk but is so much fun to drive. Thanks for the great videos.

You do some amazing work! I envy your VW's! I love youtube for this very reason. It's a huge help when it comes to VW's. Learning to do simple things like how to change the oil in a VW (not sure if there's even a video on that) to full-blown restos, etc is nice to have available. How many hours do you think you put into this?

Its great that this truck got saved but these six months in 30 min type vids just pander to lazy people who don't want to watch complete builds.
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 2 года назад
yea but they watch.....The full detail videos are not profitable. so I do these because they pay out. Nothing pays out enough though the 8000 view videos made about $20 and are now dead. These full build ones pay out like up to 5k over time and keep getting watch. The only way I can make this work is by doing these. yea it caters to the ones who dont want to watch I wish they would but it is what it is. some find these and start on the playlist just to see the detail. The algorithm sucks. If I dont have one of these they stop suggesting me.
