Full Restoration of WW1 Binoculars
Made in France by Lemaire. This model dates from right around WW1.
The "Made In France" stamped in English suggests these were made after 1918. All products after that date, imported into the US were required by law to have a country of manufacture marked on them. These were originally finished in black lacquer and leather. I refinished them in black brass lacquer and wrapped them with black cowhide leather.
Tools and Materials used:
5-Inch Fine Brass Wire Wheel - amzn.to/3bYTSBb
Barge all-Purpose Cement - amzn.to/2LY3MIO
ColorTone Liquid Pigment for Nitrocellulose Lacquer - amzn.to/2ZKxCIX
Dremel EZ Lock Finishing Abrasive Buffs - amzn.to/2TyTbZ1
Everbrite Aerosol Clear, Protective Coating for Metal - amzn.to/3c1FnN0
Isopropyl Alcohol/Solvent Dispenser - amzn.to/2Zwksis
Mohawk Finishing Classic Instrument Lacquer - amzn.to/3edyqd9
REED Black Leather Cow Hide (8 inches X 11 In.) - amzn.to/3gjqRU7
Stainless Steel Wire Brushes - Wheel/Cup - amzn.to/2AYNJIp
Velvet Fabric Sticker - amzn.to/3gjtzsO

May they last another 100 years now. 👍💗💗💗 Thank you for sharing. As a child, I had such binoculars. I had received it from my grandparents. It was worn out back then and was called theater binoculars. It was very similar in shape. But age is certainly right.
@AcmeRestorations
@AcmeRestorations 4 года назад
Yes, this company also made "opera glasses". They are shorter; they don't have the front section. You don't need to see as far in a theater :). Many different manufacturers made glasses of this style at that time. Thank you for watching.
@ako456
@ako456 4 года назад
There were prismatic binoculars as early as the 19th century and I never think that any defense force would have bought binoculars where you cannot set your own measure for the distance between the eyes - the lenses. For me, it's a theater-glasses. But I agree if you say it is 100 years or more.

@@triune_blades Servicing has been made harder, but still not impossible depending age. I have been restoring and utility restored lots of stuff people trow away. Just got free English seagull boat off board motor that after little cleaning of fuel line and new fuel started with second pull, ppretty recent Weber spirit gas grill, just needed "little" cleaning and serviced Bosh 1400 angle grinder, just needed clean brush holder that had lots of corrosion preventing brush to move freely. Too bad last owner didnt leave washer and nut and handle in place, otherwise it would be in use now.
