My AD has no joke messed me around for the last 4 years. Thought I was down for watches that I wasn’t, couldn’t even get a date just 36 off them not to mind a sub, the final straw was when they sold a friend of mines a sports model I was waiting for for over a year. They had 0 buying history (I have a few), I’m delighted for him don’t get me wrong. AD called me to pick up a Bluesy and I told not interested. I’m done with Rolex, don’t think they will be calling be about the Sub or Explorer now. I will be adding main more Omegas to the collection, few more speedmaster (FOIS, white dial, broads arrow, PO if they ever update it, 007 300m with some luck, proplof if there come out with a update black one, maybe a Zenith Shadow. No JLC due to the 43%, don’t see me buying anything from them again now. See you on the other side of Patek, Rolex.
@@IDKlineNot going to say it doesn’t happen, I didn’t buy a pre owned black ceramic Daytona that the sales assistant was trying to sell me, would have been good buying then but I didn’t feel like paying over list then not to mind now. So the Sub paper work got binned I filled out that day. Only found out 4 years later for another staff member when they were sorting my online account out. I would like a Sub in all honesty love the watches but hate everything else.
Love it! I was a HUGE Rolex fan. For the record I own the following pieces: 116610 LN, 116610 LV, 116710 BLNR, 116400 GV, 126622, 126334, 228239 DD 40 baguette dial. I will never buy another Rolex again. The stupid games they play has turned me of from the brand. I don't care about this artificial resale value. I have never been a flipper. If by now these guys don't respect me as a buyer, they never will. Why should I beg to give someone 10-50k of my hard earned money. Forget it!
Can't really guarantee that AD's have those watches sat in the safe doing nothing. Unless you have some proof on the contrary In fact, I have it on good authority (in the UK) that by the end of the week/month, there are very very few watches in the safe at all in the AD, so quite the contrary. It's not great from a security and stock management perspective (especially for chain stores) for them to have stock sat there in the safe. People are still buying them, just not at the rates that they were 2-3yrs ago. I think you are underestimating how big these lists of interest are. Rolex make 1-1.2M watches a year, and at the end of the year, most of those are being sold. If you don't believe me, Rolex made 10.1 billion Swiss francs in 2023, and while they won't be seeing massive 18-20% growth in 2024, it will still be in the region of around 4-6%. Don't be under the illusion that Rolex ADs cannot sell most run of the mill watches. The only things sitting on the shelves for a long time are things like full gold Skydwellers and full gold Submariners - and even then, they just discount them to the right people to get them gone in the end.
Picked up a black dial Explorer II from my local AD last week, just 3 months after first enquiry. The place was a ghost town when I went in. And I now know the waiting list thing is a scam. I sent an email after I heard rumours that the Explorer II was going to be delisted (and hinting I’d go grey for it). A week later I get the call. They waited just long enough to make it seem like they weren’t desperate.
I have said from over three years ago, no need to have a sense of entitlement, their toy, their rules. Wait your turn , go grey , or buy another brand, simple. As an aside , I have NEVER, EVER, been asked by WOS to buy jewellry or other stuff I don't want
13k for a Datejust is just stupid, gold or no gold, it's excessive. It's still a relatively entry level watch. Rather put 10k into a Laureato, or a JLC
agree RRP ss fluted jubilee dj41 £9300 gray £11k upwards good dial green, blue, Wimbledon, rhodium ,once the RRP goes over 10k I'm out dj41 really is not worth it
No one should be mad at Rolex business practices. They’ve been around for decades and keep making money. And if you purchase a Sub, you won’t lose money.
The fact people are groveling for the sales to come back- is exactly why they WONT PUT THEM ON SALE- demand is still there. And people still seem to think they are all that. Buy a tudor if you want a wearer. Buy a Rolex if you think it shows off wealth ( irony is our friends own a rather large concrete company and only wear the Iwatch )
The demand is still there for Oyster Perpetuals, Daytonas, and GMT's. However, go on the gray market and many Rolex models are available below RRP. You use the moniker Vette Crazed, so I assume you remember back in the 1960's GM owned over 50% of the US market, and its market share today is well north of it.
Why would they keep building up though? Rolex knows exactly what's being sold, so they'll just put the brakes on two-tone Bluesy/Wimbledon/whatever production, no? Rolex has done what I said they were going to do all along to solve the unsustainable issue with AD supply and flippers - steadily put retail price up and up over time to meet market price (and thereby squeezing out the grey market).
Brendan, I visited an AD last night and tried on a Yacht Master with the blue tucker. He Quoted me a 7.7 year wait for this model or I could buy the Rolex pre used stock one instantly for, wait for it £16k. I said nothing as I thought it was a joke. Then he offered the Yachmaster on the Oysterflex at £27K. These are all we can sell you. ADs are definitely not saying they have stock. This was in London.
ADs have held all the cards for too long. With a complete lack of demand for other brands, bar the odd model they'll have to start selling their Rolex stock, which as you say is filling their safes. I know you're not a fan of our honest friend, but I do believe him when he says the full precious metal or two tone Rolex market is a tough sell at the moment. Nobody is paying MSRP for these.
Buy a watch because you love it not because you think it will turn a profit then the world would be a better place. Most people will buy a 1000 pound phone and bin after 3 years and move onto the next fad. I know people who have spent 20k on phones in the last 10 years just to view facebook, tik tok and netflix on the go and show no remorse and then moan they have no money in their pockets. Crazy world we live in.
They won’t keep building up because Rolex will just wind back production to meet demand, they’ll manage it. Yes more watches will become available at AD’s but they wind down production and manufacture even less steel watches so demand still outstrips availability.
Rolex is building a billion dollar factory scheduled to open in 2029. At some point they just can't shutdown production because they need to meet the increased overhead. On the demand side, many people with dignity don't bother to go into the AD to avoid the Pandemic Games abuse. Plus, the lack of perceived availability is boomeranging as many of us have found other brands that want our business.
@@dannysimenauer5745 Rolex will still manipulate the market, nobody will be walking into AD’s buying stainless Daytona’s & GMT’s without jumping through hoops regardless of whether they build a new factory. And they don’t care if people like you have moved on to other brands they will always be the 👑 and outsell all their competitors by a long shot
@@Anonymouslyme1 Fair enough but I will retain my dignity. If Rolex can execute the strategy as you outlined then more power to them. In the end the market will decide.
@@dannysimenauer5745 and that’s exactly why Rolex will win, because their watches are the ‘must have’ status symbol of the rich and successful and that won’t change, Rolex have the upper hand and they’ll keep it.
i was at ad yesterday at there new fancy store in glasgow and told nothing at all for sale in rolex .3 months ago i got the call and bought yacht master blue dial its the second rolex ive bought from them been on the list for over 4 years for pepsi or batman .no chance .i cheekily asked them how they can build a 5 mill store with nothing to sell .and asked if they had a cheeky wee pepsi in the back safe at least they laughed .maybe they dont like my scottish humour .
Don’t worry 😂 us that can afford aren’t playing these games either. 😂 One shit treatment and I was out. Same dealer in Denmark offered me omegas etc. fuck that. I went to their closest competitor who also sold omegas 😂
I went into my local AD recently just to browse. I've been patiently waiting for a Polar Explorer II of which they had 2 pre-owned. After I ensured the Salesperson I only wanted to buy new, I was offered a white gold SkyDweller, a Bluesy, and a steel Deepsea. Maybe they are finally starting to lighten up?
Sept last year, they sold me that same blue sub in one of the ADs in Las Vegas..no prior history with that AD, called me after 2 month's from getting on the so called "list" Maybe the watch was out the back the whole time. Who fookin knows. I do like the watch though, its a grail, and it gets worn.
Totally agree Brennan! Five years ago when I picked up my two tone Rootbeer my salesman was taking the watch out of the safe-huge walk in safe like a bank able to hold literally thousands of watches! My Rolex journey ended that day as it was my fourth and I’m on to other brands. I honestly expect many watch resellers to go out of business in the next few years. Rolex AD’s will have no choice but to start selling watches again when they run low on cash because of all their inventory in the safe 😎.
Okay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the mamacoo book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
I was offered the Bluesy, Wimbledon or Yacht master from my AD. I have buying history with him including two Explorer’s, ladies date just and a Sub date. I was asking for the Root beer which he said he had sold his allotment for the year. I passed on the offered watches and told him I would be patient for the Root beer. I’m not going to buy something that I don’t want.
My local Wos have 9000 ( NINE THOUSAND) expressions of interest . WoS as a group have stopped taking expressions of interest on a load of models, it would take 250 years to clear apparently! And you can only expres an interest in 3 at anyone time, and buy no more than 3 in a year, that has killed the flippers, hence more stuff becoming available...
WoS since early '22 allows 4 expressions of interest, but one has to be semi or pm, just shows the level of demand they are getting on the big ticket stuff - not.
Hmmm strange, a SA in February in Oxford said it was now 4 and entered an extra one for me, but said it had to be semi or precious metal, head office policy, I checked a month later with my original AD in London, they confirmed this was correct and I was showing 4 on the system, a friend in London was also allowed to enter 4 earlier this year at another AD. In my original post I put down there was a change in 22 this is a typo and it was a change in early 24, as per the SA.
My WoS boutique has always had a limit of 3, and they have to be different watches or same model in different materials (limit of 2). I'm down for a Pepsi GMT and Rootbeer, which was accepted, but wasn't 'allowed' another GMT no matter the material.
I commented on that Trotters video the other day. My AD had that watch they were after in the window for a good 2 weeks or so! If they still had it for sale and they (or any other grey dealer) was desperate for one, I obviously would not flip it for RRP or less, I'd want a profit on it. As if I'd buy it and then sell it for 25% less so they can make £3000 on it! They do the same, so why can't I? It's called supply and demand.
And honestly everyone complaining about the unavailability of a Rolex has to honestly ask themselves why do they want a Rolex? Id say if rolex was a fisherman the fish are right where they want them 😉
Easy way to get them back to earth- dont want them, but we know that wont happen as they are 👑 of luxury ( the crown logo huh see what i did there 😂) I mean what says I made it or at least a perceived Ive made it better then the hottest Rolex ?
Interesting video. Whilst I don't dispute anything you have reported my comments would be as follows. The luxury watch market is the same as anything else, once purse strings are tight for the common man or woman then something has to give and what gives is spending on desirable items such as cars, clothes and jewellery and I include watches in that category. Demand is controlled by supply when times change and they will, demand for watches will increase and as it does naturally prices and interest will go up but maybe not to the silly extent of a couple of years back. This silly period was driven by the customer not the seller who were prepared to pay almost and arm and a leg to buy into the hype generated in part it must be said by the grey market dealers. It is common sense for a GM dealer to try and get as much money as they can, its called good business. That said if any person buys a watch as an investment they are deluded as only in extreme cases are you likely to pull in a good profit on a used item (like as mentioned 2 to 3 years ago). If you have 15 bags to spend on a watch for profit you may as well go play on the stocks but this wont tell you the time. I have personally just collected a new Rolex from an AD after being on the wait list for 2.5 years, I have no sales history with the store but my name has risen presumably because money is short and a number of people before me did not want to spend. So the down turn in watch sales has been to my benefit, I don't intend to sell the watch but if I did then I expect to make a loss which is normal in the main in the used item business. If you want a sure profit buy a house or gold these items tend not to lose money over the subsequent years. But buying a watch to make money is normally just pie in the sky. Buy a watch to tell you the time and make yourself happy in the knowledge that you got what you wanted and that someone has spent time and dedication to build it. PS Rolex make 1 million watches a year and its still not enough to match the global demand. Obviously other watch brands are available. Keep up the good reporting.
I agree some models are overpriced, but its been 2 years now since the peak and i dont see any better availability so the watches are being somewhere, look at Indias massive middle class, they can buy loads
I think many of us are waiting for the market to go back to normal when most Rolex models sold for under RRP on the gray market. Once upon a time the Rolex AD had inventory, exhibited it in the case without "Exhibition Only" signs, and sold Rolex watches like any other product (Daytonas maybe being the only exception). Now I hear that the AD has a safe full of Wimbledon datejusts and Bluesies. I have no doubt that Brendan knows the AD market, and I am grinning like a cheshire cat. I can't wait to make the AD earn my business, and going a step further, make the AD sell me the watch I want at a discount! Else, I walk out and call a gray market dealer and get the discount anyway!
All this stuff is doing my head in , it’s my big birthday soon and all I want is to buy myself a nice watch to wear So opted for a date just 36 fluted blue bezel, went to WoS in Oxford st told they guy what I wanted he waved his hand and tried to sell me a Zenith defy. I know nothing about this game just want to buy a watch for my big birthday. Since then been doing my research and all I see are flippers or conmen . Thanks Brendan for the insight , hope I don’t have this problem when applying for my oyster.
Hi Brendan I get the same feeling and think certain models will be back for sale as a walk-in very soon as most of the watch market is dead apart from Rolex but the bi metal are a lot more expensive so I think they will come available soon thanks John.
I have to say the whole rolex range has got far to expensive im thinking seriously about taking my name off the waitlist for a gmt rootbeer gone up 2 grand since i put my name down
@@dannysimenauer5745 hi danny it seems theres more coming through goldsmiths have two tone yacht masters readly available but alrhough iv bought a datejust from there cant get myself a gmt master. Might go grey
@@resnonverba137 I understand your point, but if demand drops and many Rolex models sell below RRP, you will be able to get the watch you want at a discount.
@@dannysimenauer5745 There will be no discounts on new Rolex models, Rolex will quite rightly not allow that. The second hand market is a different ballgame entirely. Desirable models will always sell at a premium, if available. All-gold models, even of sought after Submariner watches, are readily available new from many retailers but they are also for sale for less money from the grey market. The irony is that some grey market dealers still won't buy them from 'flippers' because they're not in demand and won't sell quickly.
Hello Brennan, Real Men still wear Panerai! Don’t believe in that exhibition only crap. I saw an exhibition watch being sold by an AD. Money buys no money walks.
The gold rush is on lads! Get a Bluesy on one wrist and a Root Beer on the other this Summer! All the cool kids are doing this latest craze! But wait. The new rules are that you have to actually keep these watches forever and write off the capital. Lads. Lads? Come back…
Sincerly i am so tired with rolex that i become to look other watch entry level, but for the price of an oyster perpetual its hard to find something, you only have ronde de cartier at 5500$, omega is around 7500 or only a too classic omega deville in steel, you have a basic bilgari bulgari at 5500,but all other like iwc entry level its i000$ and ulysse nardin, blancpain around 10000....so at the end the most afordable is rolex.....i cant realy buy other wagch for thensame price
This is why I firmly believe ad’s just skip the middle man and sell directly to grey dealers. Why sell a watch at 40% profit when you can sell it to a grey guy for 80-90% profit. Need it registered, no problem. If you are a Rolex ad you have a lot of friends, many of which care nothing about watches. Toss them a few bucks to use their name to register it, done. Anybody in sales know the first rule is you never let money walk out the door…..so they are getting rid of them for a larger profit. And this thing about the waitlist so they can investigate you and make sure you’re not a flipper is the biggest lie of them all. If they looked into customers to make sure they really wanted the watch, then how did they end up in a grey dealers hands anyway……simple, they sold it to them directly.
It's simple math. One thing I have see across the board I believe is that AD's do not know what they are getting. So imagine you're an AD and you open up you delivery and there is a Pepsi GMT on jubilee. Sell it at retail for a $4400 profit, or sell it to a gray guy that is paying $18K (so he can list it at $23K) and make an $11K profit. I work in sales and you simply do not let $ walk out the door when there is a sale to be made. There is ZERO chance this wait list, there's no stock stories....they are complete and utter BS. There is not a salesman around that would let $ walk back out the door if it wasn't coming in from somewhere else, plain and simple. If you really sit down and deep dive think about it, it is one of the most ridiculous things ever.
Hi Brendan I hope you are keeping healthy positive and having a positive week so far another great video I always enjoy watching and listening to your videos and you are 💯 per cent as we get closer to the Christmas festive season the watchers will be in the windows for sale very inviting if you are in a positive position to purchase enjoy the rest of your day and week ahead look forward to watching and listening to your next video

I agree with you mate. There safes are full. The games are so old and tired. I hope rolex gets a lesson in thos whole thing. Sell the watches and if the demand is to high, make more. It's a win win for the company, the AD and the consumers. Wtf rolex, wtf !
I used to think that owning a luxury bag was an unattainable dream, until H Q D U P S told me that this dream is actually very close. The sense of fashion comes not only from the brand, but also from personal matching and attitude.
From what I am seeing from a lot of videos on RU-vid, the waiting list is a scam. It's gonna come to a point where Rolex won't even produce them anymore because EVERYBODY is on a waitlist. It's the AD fault not even the manufacturers, because even though Rolex does produce a limited amount, they are still producing watches and I don't even get the point of a waitlist if the mostly all the watches are in the vault in the back of the store. Like, the pandemic already happened and even though production slowed at all points in the retail market, not just watches, it's back to normal now. I saw a video the other day, where it says that Rolex even stepped up production to meet with demand and that they are building 3 new temporary manufacturing facilities. Idk but AD's sooner or later are going to start giving discounts or just put everything on the floor for sale like Brendan just said.
I bought this popular video watch from amzwatch , which was originally priced at a few thousand dollars, but now it's only $380! It's really suitable to pick up feces!

Even if they're back on the windows for sale, you can no longer justify spending all that money on a submariner. It use to be the everyday watch, 3/4k for a steel beater. Spending 9k on it no longer makes it worth it.
@@Anonymouslyme1not at all, I got my sub from the AD at a discount for 3.5k on 2004. I’ve worn the same watch everyday since then. I’m not rich. Now paying 9k for a basic everyday watch like a sub seems insane to me.
Brendan, I posted earlier today on your previous video. I buy my watches from WOS in London. I have bought 4 in the last two years, a bluesy, 2 Omegas, 50th anniversary sea dweller , and last week as a "walk in" a 40 MM , rose gold, and stainless steel Yacht master , with a black face. I know the store manager and regional manager very well, having previously dealt with them when they were Fraser Hart, before Mappin and Webb bought the site. The idea that WoS have loads of sellable stuff in the safe is not true. Such stuff that is easily sellable ( stainless steels subs and the like) go and are sold as soon as they arrive. That said 6 months ago they had approximately 10 watches in the window for sale as walk ins. Last week, they had a batman, the Yacht master I bought, a. gold sky dweller, a solid gold GNR M Pave dial yacht master, 2 OPs, and two date just for sale as walk ins. They also have. anumber of solid gold pieces in the safe, which they cannot sell. They do n't display these models as there is not physically room. Wos, have a number of checks and balances to ensure they are not selling to flippers. When a watch comes in the team get together, and discuss and decide who they should approach to sell the said watches. No one is taking brown ebvelopes at Wos , nor have they ev er, it would be impossible to get away with . In addition I was told that the last two quarters, were the worst they have seen in 20 years. Demand remains strong I am told in the sub £15k/20k mark, but above that it is proving very difficult. Yet the grey market suggest they are still mad busy selling watches at Covid prices lol.... They are not, they are stuck with inventory they cannot move . I follow this closely, very closely, and month on month you will see the same inventory on their websites. The grey market is mostly fucked. Who wants to go grey and take the risk of a franken watch or fake, there are plenty about, plenty. And I include in that bricks and mortars stores.
I agree with you but I think it’s a while off yet. Sadly imo there are so many non watch people who want what they can’t have that sales will continue to keep Rolex from watch people. Some of the nuggets buying watches from trotters is comical. They don’t even know what they want as long as it’s a Rolex. 🤦🏻♂️
Dog shit brand has a lot of damages to fix . A massive company but behaves so lowly . I guess it’s true money doesn’t buy class, even after 100 years 😂
It's mostly the AD's fault, because im sure that Rolex would want to sell all their watches, yes they produce a limited amount, but AD's act like they have 0 inventory. During the pandemic and maybe ending 2021 beginning of 2022 I could see a waitlist because production did slow down so much on all fronts not just watches. But as of last year and the year before, shouldn't be a waitlist, especially when Mayors, specifically, get a new shipment from Rolex every Wednesday and Friday if im not mistaken, and all the salesman work on commission. So the fact they won't sell you a watch just eats away at their paycheck. But most "simple" watches, like the Submariner, the Oyster perpetual and even a lot of Datejust, they get a new shipment every Wednesday and Friday.
@@LEANDROFERRINI don’t be naive . U have much to learn. Rolex is the king of doing despicable things last few years .
