Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gives a formal apology to people affected by the gay purge which saw people in Canada criminally charged or fired from the military or Canada's civil service because of their sexual orientation.
Wow! Great speak to bad he doesn't mean a word of it. He is so good at giving speeches but his words and actions don't match. Maybe should try asking him a direct question like how many times he has meet with the ethic committee that he says he is more then willing to meet with? Those he not so good at. He is lying to our faces, nice touch btw with the hanky he must have got good grades in drama.
I think it's really brave of such a powerful person to show his sentimental side in a speach! My highest of respect. I hope the world will take this as an example for modern society.
Come out of the stupid. The creature is a virtue signalling, lying, manipulative communist pig and only really stupid people would buy into his garbage speeches. He is just playing the political game and not a very good one.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” - “One Earth One family One Future” and there are no gender inequality we all are from mother of nature , we are created by nature we are family. Peace ✌️
Most ironic about this apology (as well as the JT's apology to First Nations last week) is that the unfortunate things he is now apologizing for, also took place during his father's era as a PM of Canada...Pierre Trudeau had enough support and political clout to end the abuses decades ago, if he wanted...
TheMzx124 Lol, Amen, but that depends on who you think his actual father was. But under Pierre, indigenous kids were still being kidnapped from their parents and placed in Res schools or with white families. Amazing we are told we dont need to know things to find out later not only is it our fault, but we must pay up.
Probably why Pierre actively fought against this sort of thing. Homosexuality was actually illegal in Canada until he changed the laws in the 60s. "The government has no place in the bedrooms of the nation"- Pierre Trudeau.
There was a press conference after this in the hallway with different cabinet ministers and lawyers. If anyone knows where I can find it can you reply with a link. Ty.
I have a few issues with Trudeau. But today is not a day I'm gonna talk about them. Today is a day I appreciate what he is doing. He did the right thing. Thank you Trudeau for this. It makes a world of difference.
As I read the ignorant comments on this thread I fully understand why it was necessary for the Prime Minister to make this public apology. Next year my husband and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary. When we met we were considered criminals, for no other reason than loving each other. Thank you Prime Minister for rising above the ignorance of homophobia.
It's not possible for it to be love, you don't know what love is. Lust and love are not the same thing. God is love, you don't know God so you can't know love.
I have a deep disgust for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, however this speech is certainly evidence that he CAN conduct himself as a Prime Minister, he simply has decided to no longer serve the interest of Canadians. It’s for that reason I’ll be voting conservative.
In Australia 1 day I seen 3 same sex couples to say inclusive to all orients but in my city mostly only around pride fests Love eqauloty and trudeua been to many
He speaks eloquently unlike many in politics he said things so well but delivered his speech in many different fashions in this showing even more genuine apology and acceptance
He's not apologizing for every Canadian citizen past and now, he's apologizing for people who discriminated and continue discriminate the LGBTQ2. For those who think the LGBTQ2 in Canada is one entity it's not, its the minority groups that have been persecuted over the year and only until now Someone is doing something about that, an apology. Imagine being "straight" and people hunting you and putting you in prison because of WHO you are. His apologizing also is to take away the stigma that has been opposed on us.
Thank you, Prime Minister Trudeau. These words matter. To have any government recognize the humanity of LGBTQ2 people is a most honorable act. Thank you.
Ooooooooo Justine you have never spoken so softly and kind to me. You are a BS'r of note but now we know you have some savvy even your tie fits properly. Will you buy the groceries today darrlieng I cant afford it or the rent . When done buzz off.
“Imagine being criminalized by who you are”. I’m a male, yes. “We can’t forget about our past” *doesn’t do anything to stop historic statues being torn down” He also says that homosexuality was described as “indecent”. The parades marching through the streets with naked people participating in front of children is indecent. Bet you’re not sorry to the small business owners, both straight and LGBTQ+
8:33 it is with shame and sorrow..... 18:10 to members of the lgbtq+ communities, young and old.... 19:18 it is because of your courage that we're here today....
all human beings regardless of sexual orientation deserve equal rights, but one has to be careful when declaring that a certain group be protected. by singling out that group, you have actually made them handicapped incapable of defending themselves requiring the white liberal messiah to save them.
It's government and military officials who are to blame for any discrimination and not ur average Canadian. I don't need anyone apologizing for me since I like millions of other Canadians have done nothing wrong.
Well he is part of the federal government, and apologizing on behalf of the federal government for something the federal government did... not sure the issue.
his pronoun is they them, he is very inclusive and gender non-conforming he is white privileged and feels very white guilty because of it diversity is his strength and he lisps
His Canadian PM father was gay and a player of bumb darts its a fairly know fact. His marriage to Margaret was a cover up. He was 54 she was 18. Disgusting family history.
for those of you saying this apology wasn't necessary because they don't deserve "special treatment"... there's a difference between equality and equity. google it.
While most Canadians would of course echo this sentiment the pandering and virtue signalling of this government has reached sickening proportions and most Canadians see right through it for what is really is
An apology is not enough. Those who discriminated should feel the same burden. People suffered for years, lost jobs, friends, everything. Homophobic People should be in jail. Polygraph them. There should be no statute of limitations. Don't be on the wrong side of History. Don't use religion to harm others. Like I said, an apology is not enough, but reparations are not good either. Justice 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Love reading people who are afraid of the modern, appropriating modern words they don't understand to beat up on this truly modern man. They'll ascribe behavioral ideas they don't understand to Trudeau in efforts to project their frustration onto a man who reflects how modern forces are changing what the idea of a 'real man" is. As long as their former notion of manhood has some validity, they'll fight to justify it. But they are jealous of a man who embraces all that is the modern idea of a man.
I agree with standing , granting full rights ,and supporting the LGBTQ2+ community without any discriminatory basis. However, I believe that US and Canada are exagerrating in defending in a way that enforce the other who do not believe in them due to religious and cultural reasons. For example, Forcing some religious schools to put their Flag is also considered against human rights and freedom in my opinion. Moreover,in my prespective, obligating other groups to put their flag such as certain types of Jewish, Christians , Muslims, Hindus , Buddists , Old historical religions , some straight Atheists and Agnostics , People who do not believe any validity in anything🤗, etcccccc. Is also considered against freedom , democracy , liberalism , secularism, and free principles ideas that these developed and well-educated countries are pretending to be 🤔 . Chao
I support the government's decision to apologize. Equality and fairness to everyone! There is no need whatsoever for the hatred and ignorance that is being spewed on this thread.
I love how all the Russia First/Trumpanzees have come to comment about something they clearly have no grasp on. Then again, not one of these fine "Canadians" has ever served this country as I and my husband have. We served with pride and while now retired, we still do our part to make Canada the best nation it can be. What the PM is doing here is appropriate and is leadership. Truly great nations don't shy away from their mistakes or flaws, they own up to them and in doing so, make the nation that much better. Only the insecure in their patriotism would ever see this as a negative. Then again, most conservatives today are more Trump/Russian than truly Canadian, so it's not as if they should be taken seriously....though we must be vigilant to ensure they never get the reigns of power. If they do, it won't be long before camps are built and those deemed different are placed within them...and don't kid yourselves, that's what the right wing christofascist want. I didn't fight for that, I fought for freedom.
This is a good speech and I'm glad it is something we see as important. To apologize for, in this way, the past actions of an administrative structure and deceased and living citizens, makes me wonder why not apologize for the countless actions that we can now moralize. There are so many, since you can move the line of guilt to any point; chose any victim group. This is a contemporary issue, so now would be an ideal time to talk about it. I think it's also self-serving and contrived. I find the PM's actions irresponsible lately.
How blessed Canada is to have a moment like this. This is a win for the whole community. Acknowledge the wrong doing, apologize, heal the pain, and work towards a better future. Bravo!
Too little to late. Many friends of mine are deceased now. The recognition is admirable but is not enough for me to re elect you. Action speaks louder then words! Tears are not enough!
Wait so are people making fun of trudeau for being a true leader and taking responsibility not only for his actions but the past actions of his nation before he was pm? I must've missed where this was a bad thing. Apologizing is a sign of maturity and understanding, not weakness. If you think it is, you're probably a very pathetic person.
BewareThe Algorithm he's not talking about Isis sympathizers. Stop deflecting or conservatives will make a fool of themselves. I'm planning on voting conservative but I might not if you act like a bunch of hypocrites.
He's not a true leader. You don't have to apologize for something you didn't do. It's weak. It's virtue signalling. It's pathetic. If you think this is mature, you are a weak and pitiful disgusting person. Reasonable lgbt people hate this. I hate it.
Abc Abc You are incorrect..apologizing for past transgressions is the catalyst to moving forward. Guess what Jesus said? Even if one is not a Christian apologies or asking forgiveness is the ONLY way to heal.
coolwater55-A) I don't look that much like either of them, B) I'm not the biggest Nixon fan in the world... but putting him in the same category as Stalin of all people? Seriously?
