Do you get affected by outside factors that impact you in the gym?
@jacobjoonpowerlifting

Outside stresses causes my ability to recover a lot and of course makes my sessions a lot harder.

I will tell you this guys. It was indeed affecting me bc of all those people around me complaining everytime it rains or whatever. Although I realized it's all about perspective and placebo effect, so I started telling myself it's not that bad. I forced myself to go outside even when it's a bad weather and I got accustomed. It might be bc of lack of sun though so supplement d3 in fall/winter season.

I get affected by the outside weather, period. I grew up in the desert, so sunshine and warm is the best for me. Long winters, especially having lived in the snow, are tough. It affects my whole life, lifting included, so I feel you.

I travel a lot for work. If away for a month I can usually find a local gym that won’t kick me out for doing deadlifts, but one-week long trips it’s difficult to go for a week without buying an entire month or six one day passes which is just too pricey for my budget. Also west-to-east coast trips really take it out of me and I either waste a day for recovery or have a lousy session that first day back. My home gym is modest but I prefer it to anything I have seen while on the road. Weather, on the other hand, just doesn’t bother me. 66 yo, 180 pounds.

Best hair in the business! It's crazy 'cause you seem super laid back and chilled out, your routine and approach to training seem very relatable, most other lifters seem obsessed to an unhealthy degree. Yet here you are killing it and enjoying life

I totally understand where you are coming from with the injury thing and being finally pain free. I had been suffering in the bench press for most of the year and my doctor eventually got me into the hospital physiotherapist. They had me do a strength test and diagnosed the problem and were able to advise what exercises to concentrate upon. It took another couple of months before they let me start benching and I am glad to say they worked wonders and I am benching pain free. What a difference to your mental side when you know you are going into an exercise and not suffer ! Regarding whether I let outside things interfere with my training, then its never. Once I walk through the door of my gym its just a work ethic that kicks in.
@TaylorAtwoodpl
@TaylorAtwoodpl 8 месяцев назад
let's gooo...pain is temporary. work ethic is forever. but injuries in general are hard to overcome sometimes because we get in this preventative mindset versus attack. happy to hear you're healthy!

Personally I'm not affected by any other factors for instance I live in the Northern part of Russia where it's way tooo cold almost 5-6 months of snow no sun for almost 6 months so yeah it's pretty harsh but I'm very happy that I've adapted to it here and training hasn't taken a toll anytime

Usually in the winter it gets dark earlier which makes just getting to the gym harder and adding rain into the mix then RPEs will feel +1 or more but these are the times you have to grind and push through because it will be worth it in the end.

lifting made my anxiety worse. I got angry over 'nothing' and prioritised my workout session over everything else other than my job. Although my gains have slowed down, I'm happier now, lifting a lot less and not neglecting the rest of my life. I'm not going to compete in powerlifting anyway so there is no point in making lifting my entire focus when things such as family, self development, improving mobility and moving better is more important to me for physical and mental health. Even though I'm not strong, my squat went from 50kg to 160kg (not quite atg) but my ability to walk has not improved and may have even got worse. I constantly get pains since I have imbalances and mobility issues. Right now I'm just maintaining most of my lifts. For the new year I may try to improve the 3 lifts but my main goal is to improve mobility, improve strength in different ways without working out too often/ not have long workout sessions and focus on the other things in life
@TaylorAtwoodpl

that's good to hear that you have a healthier relationship with the gym now. mental and physical health should be the priority and if the gym is hurting the mental, you should revaluate your approach. happy to see you did

Living in Vegas, it affects you big time in the summer as you have to let your body cool down before getting into a workout. lol in the winter the warm ups are just longer. It’s either hot or cold out here in Vegas! So yeah the weather does mess with me and my performance that day.
