The part where OP’s parents said they wanted to encourage Jane to seek therapy is laughable. People like Jane don’t see anything wrong with their behavior as long as they get their way.
I’ll be paragraph guy, or at least summary guy: Op started her own business and is doing well. Sister(Jane) wants her to pay for half the wedding. Op refuses. Jane then made the whole family turn against op. Op shares their story on Reddit, which is seen by a cousin. Cousin contacts Op and says that Jabe also asked them and other family for money. Op gets in contact with other family members and it seems Jane was spreading lies in order to get money from the and to have them angry at Op. Op tells Jane’s fiancé about the lies and asking for money from other family members. Fiancé thanks op and goes to confront Jane. Fiancé calls off the wedding and Jane initially blames op for ruining her life. Jane had a habit of lying or exaggerating when it came to money and fiancé couldn’t marry someone he didn’t trust. Parents later learn about this and apologize to Op. In the end, it sounds like Jane is in need of therapy around why she feels the need to lie and exaggerate when it comes to money. Op is hoping that the family can come out from this stronger, but it will take a lot of effort to happen.
OP is being naive. Sister is who she is because of the parents and the rest of the family. OP's so used to being treated like the "help your sister. Take care of your sister." At least now she can see some of it. Hopefully she'll wake up to all of it.
Selfish is anyone who thinks someone else should pay for your crap. Entitled is thinking your owed anything from anyone at anytime. The sister asking is the greedy one, you are better off letting these people go! If they want to be mad at you for saying no then let them pay for her wedding.
Jane seems very entitled! I’m 64 and have NEVER heard of a sister paying for 1/2 of a sibling’s wedding! That is ridiculous! You should ask everyone that has made it their business to tell you how awful it is for you not to help out financially to give your sister their money!! Don’t let her quilt trip you into paying. If your sister can’t afford the wedding, then she has two choices; 1. Have a small intimate wedding. 2. Postpone it until she and her fiancée can save up the money! Marriage etiquette states the Bride and her parents pay for the wedding and the Groom and his parents pay for the flowers and Rehearsal Dinner. My first wedding was huge and was everything I had dreamed of! Within 6 months I wanted to file for a divorce!! My second wedding was at my brother’s home with only our immediate family and each of our grandmas. It was quaint and beautiful! New Year’s Eve 2024 will mark 32 amazing, wonderful, happy years together! The wedding does not make the marriage! Only the right, committed person can do that. ❤ Your sister needs to grow up and take responsibility for herself!!

I don't know if this a legit story or not, but I'll go with maybe it is. You are under no obligation to help your sister pay for her wedding. If the tables were turned would everyone think it was James obligation to pay for yours? This is about the craziest thing I've ever heard. If Jane cannot afford her own wedding maybe she needs to reconsider getting married at all. I don't see this marriage lasting for any length of time. It seems to me it's all about the event and not the relationship. If your sister really wants this big affair she and her fiance need to save up for it. And why is everyone thinking you should pay for it? I never heard you mention anything about the rest of the family offering to help! You have obviously worked hard to get where you are. Maybe your sister needs to find a new career that will afford her the champagne lifestyle she's wanting!

I don’t think these stories are real I just watched a different one on this same channel and the same part about meeting for coffee and her saying that her dad looked older than I remember was in that one too literally worded the same way
