Damm, new video dropped and i have to go out after only watching the first ten minutes. It will be a midnight treat for me later tonight. Bosch and Makita seem to have market sown up for these type of hammers over the last 40 years i've been working .

Well thought out and executed Dean, always nice to see you work on a machine you haven't worked on before. I knew with your expert eye and knowledge that you would have this (upside down) beast up and hammering again no problem. Keep em' coming Dean, great work.

I have watched plenty of your fixes and service uploads, Today I pulled apart a (PRO tm 18v) rip saw I was given a few years ago it's a cheap thing and would not run even after I charged both batteries. After a clean and a little tab bending the thing is back to work, thanks to the confidence I gained watching you. Many thanks.

I kinda like the design with the motor part on one side and the mechanic part on the other, being able to work on whatever side you need to be for a fault. Thanks for the full stripdown, even though I haven't seen this one comming in for repair either.

Quality work. A definite A. As my old instructor used to say A is what you get when everything goes together and works as required. A+ is when the unit gets disassembled by an engineer to validate all the work. In other words, strive for the A+ knowing that the perfect repair does not exist. Everything that I have ever fixed always had a time, money, material and is it worth all the above to do. 😊

Hi Dean. A trick for fitting lip seals. Use an old fairly long o'ring put it thru the inside of the lip seal and you can roll it round pulling down past the upper seal grooves down to the bottom groove. This also protects the new seal from damage which a screw driver can do. Hope you understand what I mean.

An important part was installed upside down, compare 18:32 with 41:32. The round part with the two 180 degree offset lugs that struck through into the rounded grooves in the tube, that part is upside down. Otherwise an excellent job as always!

Dean Terrific video. Everything about this hammer makes it look like it's been on steroids. The key distinguishing feature for me is the size of those retaining pins in the hammer tube - normally about 6mm dia in other Bosch rotary hammers - these ones about 12mm ! It was clearly designed and built to do a lot of work and to last. Great job. Best regards

Hey Dean, Pos. 54 Control Disc was assembled the wrong way round, this may cause the perforated ring (Pos. 36) to fail, doubt it’ll cause damage to the hammer as its plastic but its just an observation for the next one. Perhaps this tool was being used horizontally in a wet trench. So it's clogged with all the grit & grime it was working in. It's a heavy hammer, without being far to heavy to work horizontally

Those metal fins on the aluminum body are interesting. I don't think they're for heat exchange, looks as though they are to transfer impact energy away from the bearings. And possibly the handle? Pretty cool. I like that the power cord goes forward too, so you're not always kicking it around.

Hi Dean, greetings form Czech Republic 🇨🇿 love the video as always 😊. I'm a mechanical engineer, so it's interesting for me to see how these things are constructed and how they are then repaired. Just one question, i was just wondering if the two lip seals on the striker should be facing the opposite way to each other. So that the first one is facing out of the hammer and keeps the grit out, and the top one facing in and keeps the grease in 🤔 ?
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 19 дней назад
No they both face the same way, the original model actually used all o rings and most hammers use orings. Only ever seen the lit seals on older hammers.

Hi Dean i am not sure you put the seals on the striker correctly. As one of the lip seals will keep the grease in, the other outer one would be put on backwards to keep water and debris out, not saying i’m correct but i have seen hydraulic pistons do this
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 19 дней назад
No that is the correct way. I thought the same myself or was going to fit the oring to the bottom. But bosch them for sale fully assembled amd that is how they fit them. Makes sense as they do a dirty job as you can see for the ones removed. But the hammer normaly faces down so grease is more likely to leak out than dirt to leak up.

Every thing is heavy duty metal. And then a plastic piston? ??? Is it because that only component thats moving and they want to reduce the mass?
@deandohertygreaser
@deandohertygreaser 10 дней назад
The plastic piston and conrods are actually more durable than alu ones. Plus alu and pa6gf30 have roughly the same tensile strength anyway. So a nylon one is the better choice. Plus they also have other advantages main 2 being. They are cheaper to produce keeping costs down and if they fail. They cause less damage to other components inside.
@alouisschafer7212
@alouisschafer7212 6 дней назад
Yes they are lighter and work just as well if not better. Aluminium conrods seem to snap in half more often destroying the gearbox. The piston only compresses air anyways.

At 46:17 you can see that the rounded part doesn't match up with part 36 (1 610 190 066) that goes outside the tube.
