I was in high school during Columbine and that was supposed to be the watershed moment where everything changed. Apparently, in some places, nothing ever changed.
The key comment I took from this full hearing was McCraw answering one of the committees question relating to delay, in which the chief always had some sort of excuse not to breach, whether that was the weaponry, shields, classroom keys, man power, barricaded subject, etc. Now we are learning all of those reasons he went through to not to breach were just false. I hate playing Monday morning quarterback, who knows what I would have done in that situation, but if you are scared for your life and officers onsite are questioning your thought process under duress, be man enough to step aside and hand over responsibilities to another officer. It is so damn refreshing to hear McCraw be honest and call out a "brother in blue" when he deserves to be called out, vs. protecting him cause he is a cop. Its sickening when cops lie or cover up garbage for other officers because they have this complex where they need to protect another cop, even if it hides the truth and covers up misconduct.
@@brianford2974 Pick you brain all you want, a school shooter should not be negotiated with, ever. MORE EFFORT WAS PUT TOWARDS THE BANK ROBBERY, MORE COPS, MORE SHOTS FIRED, STEADY AND CONSTANT PRESSURE ON THE GUNMEN. All the key talk and the damn class was unlocked the whole time. Arrendondo was wasting time. None of those cops tried to open door. Every sworn officer at the school.. aside from the BTAC officers that killed the shooter… should be immediately fired in disgrace.. anyone that delayed action should be prosecuted. It’s really not that complicated.
And how did the 18 year old shooter gets his assault rifle and ammunition? Easy to shift blame if it's not you who have to respond to this horrific events hey. It's your amendment right to bare arms, right?
@@karinkoen9767 No you’re right.. the child’s bodies I had to step over where in Iraq and Afghanistan. There isn’t a weapon in the world that couldn’t have done the damage he did in the amount of time he was given.
It been decided in the US supreme court that officers have no duty to protect citizens. Whilst I believe if you sign up for Law Enforcement or Military then you sign up to keep your country's citizens safe, if the Courts are setting a precedent that an officer has no obligation to protect people, that is where you need to start protesting for change. What I still can't believe is the Mother that ran in, without any weapons or armour, and got her kids out while the shooting was still active. All while the cops sat back and watched until it was safer for them. Something really needs to change.
I think it's respectable to not throw the lower "employees" under the bus, but seriously, if there are 11 of you in the building, you don't need to be told to do your job.
I think they were more afraid of disobeying the chief and being wrong. If a cop disobeyed the chief and charged inside and someone died because of that decision, well that cop wouldn't be hailed as a hero at all... in hindsight the chief was a moron and coward, but in the moment, officers probably didnt know that for 100% certain
@@BrandonWilson-lw6vh Those police officers(COWARDS) had no business holding a weapon in the first place. There were children inside with an armed KILLER. Go sit down son.
More than 20 cops were there I hope you saw the video by now, embarrassing and disgusting. Getting sanitizer and checking Apple Watch waiting for lunch while those babies are wailing for help.
@@BrandonWilson-lw6vh honestly at that point your job isn’t important, saving tiny kids is. Who gives af about orders or being fired. Chief arrendondo was wasting time on purpose. Lied about locked classrooms when they were opened and requests all that extra equipment and still didn’t send anyone in so it was up to the 20 cowards standing there to help dying and kids in danger. They should’ve stayed at the station for lunch instead of holding parents that wanted to save their kids. In 77 mins I know some of those kids could’ve been saved. Waited until national guard and border patrol got there. So in other words they were waiting for suspect to empty his weapon so they could go see the show and head home for dinner.
So we now know that Radio Communication was not possible Regardless that the Chief didn't have his, the officers that arrived in 3 minutes chose to NOT ENGAGE AS TRAINED. Fire those officers and charge them with a crime.
I want to know why the police radios didn't work inside the school. The whole point of the radios was to assist communications in the even of an emergency in a school. What good are the radios if they don't work in the ONE PLACE they needed to work. Did no one check to be sure they worked properly? This is beyond incompetence and on into criminal negligence
He definitely was at fault and should be fired if not charged with criminal neglect. However, those other officers in that hallway during that hour of time should have disregarded the Chief’s command knowing there were kids inside those rooms and hearing sporadic gunfire from the killer. They should have gone in immediately to engage, distract, and killer the killer because that is the standard protocol for an active shooter scenario since Columbine (1999). The chief thought it was a barricaded subject scenario (so he says) was his reason for not giving the order to immediately go in, however, once the officers hear gunshots from inside the classroom, it immediately turns into an active shooter situation. And the officers heard gunshots every so often, some were even directed by the killer at the door itself in his attempt to injure or kill any cops on the other side of the classroom door. So there was no excuse for any of the officers to not go in immediately.
Who was responsible for making sure the exterior doors are in the locked position and classroom strike plates are engaging with lock? Why didn’t someone try to a least check the door handle to make sure it was locked? They had an hour to come to a conclusion that the shooter MUST have entered because the door was unlocked. If the chief ordered that the windows in other classrooms be shot out in order to gain access to children, why didn’t he order the windows in rooms 111 and 112 be shot out? This would have given police a better chance of locating the shooter and/or even begin to distract and engage the shooter. The chief needs to be fired. PERIOD. At best, he didn’t possess the skills needed to take down an active shooter. At worst he was too scared to do what was necessary to engage with the shooter. He has blood on his hands for his inaction that terrible day.
I think everybody who touched the door that day while it was unlocked feels some (misplaced) guilt. I know I would. We need to remember teachers, aides, janitors, subs, etc, are not security experts (like the cops supposedly were). It was also the last week of school where staff would be moving things from their rooms during their prep periods, getting their rooms ready for the summer, cleaning out clutter, etc... all that would have them coming in and out of the building regularly. Someone who is inexperienced with school doors could accidentally unlock the door instead of just gaining entry and leaving it locked. I really feel for all the staff at Uvalde who are going to be haunted with all the what-if's. But ultimately it was not a careless staff member, or even LEO failure that caused this to happen. The shooter did. We must all not forget that.
At the end of the day the school security guard wasn’t even on campus. Why wasn’t he there? He could’ve shot suspect dead in the back while he was walking up there had he been there.
The room with the strike plate issue was locked. He knows how the suspect gained access to the key, he's simply manipulating the truth.. The suspect gained access to the key , when the teacher went to go lock the door.
These cowards better release all the footage. When they get to hid things from the public, it makes it easier for them to hide their incompetence and play the blame game.
I’ll agree, these meatheads cant even comprehend why this event happened. And, they want to act like they know how to prevent it? Well, yup. The dumb leading the blind.

So... The LEO'S in the hallway, outside the classroom, to where the shooter was. Did not check to see if the door was locked or unlocked? WTF.... Also, since the shooter attended that school. He would have had prior knowledge of those doors, if they were locked or unlocked. So this explains how he gained access into that school and that classroom. Even after the teachers shut the outside door and the door leading into that classroom. The doors were unlocked. This leads me to my next point: why didn't Chief Oridondo, (I think I spelled his name correctly) have that knowledge. After all, isn't that what he's getting paid to do? Possessing knowledge as to every aspect related to safety in and around that school? Or was he too busy moving up the chain in the political world? Also, ok the inhouse 'walkie talkie' system didn't work. But, the cell phone system does work. Because one of the students made a phone call from one of the classrooms. Why wasn't cell phones exclusively provided for in-house usage? This is another mistake that this Chief made.
They didn’t check anything they are Cowards! They didn’t do anything because not one of them had a child in there that they cared about. This would of been a totally different case. These guys should be looking for a different line of work. Obviously they are no cut out for police work
This was a catastrophic failure by the Uvalde PD overall, starting with the Chief of Police! Cowards! They detained parents that attempted to break in the barricade to go in and rescue their children! Why? An armed civilian without any proper training would have done a better job than the police department did.
Dps had over 200 officers there, this is one Steve macraw especially since he was one the phone with the ranger seen in video talking on the phone. No wonder he went so hard at chief Arredondo to begin with. It’s going to be revealed that chief Arredondo was ordered to stand down by DPS.
Why aren’t the local LE testifying here as well? All LE units that were there need to go in front of congress and take the hard questions. Immediately! Before they forget everything that happened.
Is he really sitting there play tik for tack with these people? “ alleged “ “ reason to suspect”??? The active shooter walked into the school and killed kids. The police chief did not go in, let alone was prepared for duty, and didn’t let any officers go in and handle business. This isn’t game here, the chief is responsible for this disaster and they need to question him and fire him
WTF?!? Now I'm even more confused about the locks. How in hell are are these complicated doors that only lock from the outside & require 2 keyes to unlock a good idea? If he had set the school on 🔥, they would of been trapped. It basically corals all the people in the classroom & makes it easier to shoot them thru the door. Making a teacher step out to lock the door, puts them in the line of fire. The doors should lock & unlock from both with a simple & singular key. Trapping them in the classroom & counting on some nitwit to show up with 2 keys makes them confined easy targets, absurd & dangerous. Also, it's pretty important for the teachers to stay alive. If the teacher gets killed by stepping outside to lock the classroom door, than how will the kids go on without their guidance? Pretty dumbs AF setup.
Makes me wonder when the last inspection was by the DOI office of OSFM was done as well as OSHA and what TX laws are based on requirements. I'm also curious if teachers and others know that you can discreetly report these issues that seem unsafe to your fire marshals or OSHA and by law they have to keep you anonymous if requested. My local fire marshal handled a report the day of a reported door issue and fined the company $10,000.
The doors always remain open from the inside (fire code). Classrooms are outfitted with a regular key and a lockdown key. The first key operates normally and the second only locks the door. They are nice because they work on every door in a building to lock them, but if somebody gets ahold of one- it's no good for entry, just to lock. It obviously failed this time.
They only can search for stupid solutions cauze of the NRA supported politicians. Imagine the solution of a shooting is to close the door. Police had guns but no balls, welcome to Texas USA.
@@spammy1982 It was IMPOSSIBLE to lock the door from the inside. It should be easy to close and lock a door in case of an active shooter or just have the door locked as a precaution. It seems so simple to me that those kids would be alive if the teacher could have locked the door quickly and easily from the inside.
@@spammy1982 Okay that makes it slightly better knowing they were able to use the door from the inside if necessary. The so called officials in this tragedy are a mess. They ALL should step down. How can anyone expect them to lead or keep people safe, if they cant even get their protacals and PR right? This type of lockdown method is cleary not suitable or reliable. It failed them not only once, but twice. The exterior door and the classroom door. I still don't agree with it being only secured from the outside. The shooter could easily shoot the teacher while locking the door and/or gain quick access while the door is ajar. There has to be a better way. Teachers remaining alive is crucial to children being able to walk away alive from these types of horrific circumstances. Especially when it involves children in this age group. Had the 2 teachers survived in this shooting, less children would have died. Sounds like the teachers were in the process of locking the doors when killed.
Exactly. Who opens the school? I'm sorry to say but I almost bet it's custodian or cafeteria staff because they're most likely the one's who have to come in the earliest but either way, the final blame is on administration. The principals job at a school is quit literally the superior management of the establishment. It's their job to maintain accountability.
It's cool to have these meetings.. but there needs to be accountability for people's actions this is absurd that this man is still out in the public on paid leave he needs to be in a courtroom
The DPS director took great pains to describe the lack of door security in regards to the locks and strike plates, and went on to say that the classroom door could not be locked from the inside, that a key was needed. The shooter was able to easily gain access to both the school building and then the classrooms and yet the police could not access the classroom without a key. They finally did gain entry to the classroom and killed the shooter. What prevented the police from going in earlier? I don’t understand. Is the director mistaken? In any event, DPS chief Arredondo should be fired immediately. In my opinion he should have resigned already.

They could have determined that the door could only be locked from the outside and that it was impossible for the shooter to lock the door from the inside. They also could have learned this from the person that was helping them to get a master key. Arrodando was a complete and utter idiot. He made excuse after excuse and lying at every turn. They had shields and rifles within minutes!
hmmm... they tried a key and it wouldn't open the locked door...so they asked for the correct key...so apparently they did find at least one to be locked. These commercial type locks dont operate like your home door pass key locks. Teachers open the door by unlocking the door in the morning turning the tumbler open...then turning the tumbler back again to lock it. Then the door wont open from the outside and locks when shut. No operation of the lock on the inside. It slams shut and locks automatically when working properly. The interior handle unlocks the door for escape in emergency like a fire.
And here they go, the committee is going to study this until those children mean nothing but statistics. The kids would say "why was he allowed to have the gun" but they can't.
State ID, fishing license with another photo ID like a school badge or military dependent ID….state issued tax information with current address and a photo ID is accepted by ATF. Cannot be a PO Box and name and address must match the name and address provided on the 4473 exactly. Dealer is to deny sale if even one letter is off.
@@kvbstudios316 Interesting. Strange that the kid was so meticulous, in comparison, about the guns and get he accumulated (and the $$ it took), but never learned to drive properly or got a license along the way. Clearly a damaged mind.
@@Fugettaboutit possible he never intended to live long enough to need it, or he didn’t think it was necessary. Would not be surprised to find that he expected his grandparents to taxi him indefinitely.
@@kvbstudios316 Wouldn't surprise me either. Not sympathizing with him at all, but tragic all around how someone gives up on life like that and decides to take others with him.
What would happen if officers disobeyed those in charge and rushed the suspect shooting and killing him and a couple kids in the fire fight? The public would demand they be prosecuted for murder cuz they disobeyed a command and killed kids!!
Idk why the pig patrol even showed up. They held parents back from saving some of those kids and gave suspect all the time he needed to kill 2 full classes of kids and their teachers.
O baloney. Cops saved 600+ kids that day and stopped parents from going in only to be shot and needing rescue too! 21 perished in the classrooms. Cops saved 14 alive in the classrooms and evacuated or protected in place 600+ other students by stopping the shooter immediately on arrival in 3 minutes and killing him an hour later. Good Job police. Not perfect. Far from an "abject failure"
This happens when communities and politicians hate cops and want them abolished and de-funded. Well this is what you get, cops that only protect themselves, why put yourself on the line for a community that hates you anyways. I am not excusing what those cowards did, but this is deeper than cowardice
If they don't want to put themselves in harms way they need not be cops.its called DUTY if you don't understand duty you didn't pay much attention while in the service.
Wtf is that first noise in the first second… it’s so annoying when people like chew and breathe so loud before speaking a sentence. Can’t even listen to this guy speak
God help all the families who lost a loved one..our prayers are with you all. Love on all the kids and families who lost a loved one. Don't forget...Have barbeques every year in remembrance of all those lost so the kids and parents won't get on the depression drugs the doctor's want to prescribe. This way no one will suffer or feel alone. This tragedy should have never happened. This is a crime in itself how they didn't respond fast to the shooter. We have to understand that the fact that they tried to shut this mom's mouth. The authorities are trained to not go save people in the shooting bcz they want to take our second amendment rights away. Wake up y'all. They had 2 meetings before this shooting so how come they were not going in to doing the right thing to go in and save those kids and teacher's. Something's very wrong with what happened in Uvalde. They are changing the laws to lock us all up for protesting against what they are doing to us. Our constitutional right are being taken from us from the corrupt politicians that want to make money on us. Work us like dogs, pay us unlivable wages and exploit us all. That's why they want to force us to get the Jabola that will shorten our life span so they can take our money/retirement that we've ALL worked for our whole lives for. This is why if you take the Jabola, you can keep your job bcz they know that your life expectancy will be shorten therefore you can keep your job and build up a retirement that they can take from you because they know your life expectancy will be shortened but if you DON'T TAKE THE JABOLAS they don't want you to keep your job so you won't build up a good retirement cuz they'd have to pay you for a much longer period due to your life expectancy. They want your money. We need to change the laws that our heir's can receive our retirement if we still have money WE'VE put in to....why should the government be able to keep our hard earned money? Our Freedoms are being eroded. We must unwind Many laws that are keeping the PEOPLE DOWN ON PURPOSE FOR THE ELITES FINANCIAL GAIN. One thing that would really help if law enforcement had more than three or four months of training to be able to put that badge and gun on they need to have no less than 2 years of training ‼️‼️👮🤮☠️💯
