I love the easy-going way in which you presented the tough, hard financial facts of van life. I suppose the 'elephant in the room question' is, do you have too much month left for your total income? If your situation is OK in that dept., then you can truly be said to be living the dream. Thank you for sharing your life with your viewers - of whom, I am one. Happy Christmas and New Year XX.
I just started tracking my expenses 2 months ago and so far it looks like about €2000 per month. And I live in Bulgaria 🙄 But I do spend what seems to be a few hundred a month on Amazon ‘gadgets’ plus atm a few hundred on gifts for Xmas, and surprisingly around 150 on ‘subscriptions’ it seems like there’s always something up for renewal. Plus social security is 430 a month, more than my food and rent combined☹️ Do you have any medical etc. insurance? Or do you rely on EHIC cards for Europe or just wing it? Are there accountancy fees?
Yikes that's a heavy bill for Bulgaria, but Amazon and subscriptions would do it 😅 We currently don't pay for travel health insurance, we do have the EHIC and the GHIC. Anywhere outside of the EU we get travel insurance and in some circumstances we will get some in the EU too. No accountancy fees yet, Sam is our account, we are keeping things very simple at the moment, but hopefully next year will need an accountant.
That's an impressively low amount of expenditure! Hope you're proud of yourselves for achieving that 🙂 Why is your insurance so much though? Ours is around £300 - seems unfair you pay so much more and I wonder why that might be?
Yeah, we are pretty happy with how the expenses in 2022 have tallied 😊 As for the insurance, we turned 25 this year, so 800 is cheaper than what we paid last year, but essentially they are taxing our age (even though Sam has had his license for 8 years). We do insure the value of the van as a camper so that bumps it up and we managed to find 365 days in the EU with breakdown cover.
@@FreedomStrider Ahh I had forgotten about the age punishment! It’s been so long that I haven’t had that issue 😆 £800 seems like a great deal now esp with a full year in Europe and breakdown - assuming that’s not with the RAC as I wouldn’t use them again if someone paid me to!
@@FreedomStrider have you guys looked at if there are insurance benefits to belonging to a motorhome club of sorts? In SA if you belong to the motorhome club you get good insurance discounts... Enjoy the journey
