FULL VAN TOUR - Mercedes Sprinter 170 Extended 4x4 

First thing I noticed is the white lines showing around the door/side window, needs the door shuts wrapping!

If I went to pick up my $200K custom van. I’d be very upset with that wrap. Everything else so so great, can’t believe the wrap wasn’t corrected before showing it.

I love it, the electrical system the air system, reworked suspension, solar, the bed system, rear tire and outer storage box, job well done

Perfect van. Nothing fancy but everything practical. Would only add a fan in the bathroom and the passenger seats would put a track from left to right to give some space between the seats.

Great build and this walkthrough can also be a drinking game. Take a drink every time this guy says “little”.

All that great workmanship and attention to detail and the black wrap on a white paint job just looks brutal.

If the rear of that van can support a queen size mattress then I’d rather have a full time bed with a super comfortable queen sized mattress like a Beautyrest or Tempurpedic or whatever.. Access the garage via the rear doors and a small compartment up front inside the van. That would be my ideal set up.

Even 007 needs one !! A masterpiece of engineering . Really impressive and professional work. Bravo !!

One thing that I truly enjoy in this build is the dearth of televisions. Thank you very much for your time and effort.

Personally would’ve left it white like mine. I put some accent vinyl stripes down the side though. This is an awesome rig otherwise. A lot of “influencer” types are putting tons of home building materials in their vans, like plaster and tiles. Also, cheap but heavy plywood as opposed to the composite material used in all your cabinetry. Sure some of them look good but THIS is all you need. Barebones and functional. I imagine this rig doesn’t have a lot of rattling going on as it’s driving along. Super nice!

This is the best I have seen in terms of utility. Impressive. I personally think the finish of the walls and ceiling -sort of like a carpet is a bit pedestrian, and given how much this must have cost looks kind of cheap to me, but it's a very lovely vehicle.

The bed/workbench option is so smart, great place to wax your skis or work on a bike

Loved the bed concept - best I've seen. The auxiliary passenger seats are well thought out and make a great lounge/dining area. Also liked the shower which is smart and compact. But I've got to say that wrapping the vehicle matte black and then cooking up a big charging system to AC it cool seems like a lose-lose. Don't show it to the tree-huggers!

I definitely wasn’t expecting that amount of solar on the roof, oh boy I’m very impressed

Simple, powerful, thoughtful and sturdy designs which don’t lead to cramped living. This vehicle is very functional and spacious for outdoor living including equipment like skis. Security is enhanced with all the systems accessible from within the vehicle.

the sink and cooker worktop is superb though.

For being the extended van I felt the shower could of been a little larger and the toilet raised a little, but as you stated it was as the client wanted, not a fan of the bed arrangement either, but electrical engineering of the van is excellent..

I like the Murphy type of beds and double Murphy’s are a great idea. I love having a hidden bed with space to walk or sit that’s what I’m looking for. Very nice build though! As a retired vet that’s what I’m hoping to get so I can chill on the road

Grew up fishing and camping in n.california.....would loved to have a van instead of my 1986 jeep comanche....in Ireland again 7plus years but miss my california outdoor life...awesome van...incredible build

I'm going to say this... I've looked at van builds from major rv companies and I was like you got people on RU-vid building better layouts there is no way I would spend 90+ k at general rv on van. You guys are doing it right the layout is absolutely excellent one of best ones I've ever seen. If I were to change anything I would get rid of dinner area and have proper dry bath. Then use fold up table or something using rotating front seat to get eating area back. This customer you know has reason for all that seating but rest of van man you guys did a awesome job. Specially being able run ac through the night without any external power.

Compared to many other van builds, this looks like a first version prototype. It has lots of potential, but also quite a few issues.

Love the double Murphy bed, super cool idea & love all the storage. Think I would sacrifice one of the cupboards under one side of Murphy bed as a pull out seat.

sweet Van. putting rounded corner on the door cabinet lasts longer and is more comfortable, rounded edge on the over head cabinet reduces injury from the all too common head bumps, Matte Black would roast you here in Texas.

HI have been dealing with tourism and traveling for over 30 years. and recently more and more attention is paid to traveling by van. As for the Mercedes company, I have nothing to add because it is one of the best automotive companies, I used these cars myself when models such as 207d, 208d, 508d, or sedan 223 models from the 1990s were on the market. The version for sleeping and traveling, due to the power and 4x4 drive, with a raised suspension, is perfect for long and even mountain trips. If I had any comments, it would be a very modest shower room without a sink, a bit too cramped and without a window, and with a very primitive toilet. The bed is suspended very high, because as I can see you have a lot of cabinets under the bed. I wonder some of them could not be placed under the rear seat for passengers (eg batteries). It has no space for bicycles, at least two, although maybe they could fit under a fold-out bed?

Brilliant culmination of form and function, with a perfect spec for me. I like the extra space the 170ext provides, and willing to sacrifice some approach and departure angle for it. Great use of space and heaps of storage. Excellent build!

Some nice ideas incorporated into this build. Personally I thought it looked a bit dark but that may have just been the camera lighting. It's a very masculine design. Only a male would have a fabric splashback to a kitchen area. That will become damp with sink water blowback, splashed with cooking oils and absorb aromas from steaming pots and pans. I like the look of the fabric as it's ties in, perhaps overlaying it with tempered glass would be a practical solution. Overall it pretty impressive and the base vehicle is a beast of a machine. I am glad we don't really need ac in the UK, they seem power hungry items. I would kill for a 1000W of lithium battery capacity, that's just fantastic but UK prices are eye-watering for big lithium batteries. Great job, great rig.

Who ever wrapped this thing Id bring it back. I get wrapping it just on the outside to save some money, but good wrappers make sure to wrap it around the seams, and terminating under the window seals for this very reason so you can see any white from the out side

Great van, in mine I had a water heater plumbed in to the engine cooling system that was a heat exchanger and electric so that after just 20 minutes driving, the water was fully heated and stayed hot for over 24 hours and therefore no need for electric but handy to use electric for extended stays, also you may want to look at diesel cooking to save electric use. Awesome ideas you guys are using and very innovative, well done guys.

I'm glad you responded to my comments. I like the split murphy bed. One on each side. Was wondering about the seam in the middle as far as comfortably. Also do you do rear shower,toilets?

Overall I like it, however I want a king size tempurpedic mattress in place full time take out all the upper cabinets and add a swivel 40 inch hd flat screen, take out the dinnette for a bigger shower stall, and I’m good to go, that’s my build A+

There is a lot I like, a few bits I don't, I think with so much Bluetooth, a tablet with it all on in the main seating area would be helpful, and the shore hook-up placed somewhere more robust maybe. But considering it's a custom fit-out, I'm sure that anything is possible, I like rear cabinets for sure. I like the idea of a 170 4x4 and possible coil springs on the rear to aid axle articulation. Is there a self-levelling kit on it? I'm not sure if one was mentioned. My issue is I like to get out to places to take photos, come back to edit them and then rest like a slob on a sofa lol. Oh and in the latest version of the Crafter van, which I would need to import to be fitted out. Great design, great work - and a great vid

Add a wind generator to your build. In Death Valley and the Eastern Sierra there's plenty of wind to feed on.

Put a TV in it and I've have one for holidays. Too small to live in full time, but all very nicely done.

Beds : I’m still waiting to see a van with an Alucab style roof top bed. The style where they “lift” the roof to create the bed, as installed in some Land Rover 110’s & Land Cruiser Troupiess.

Wrap in black was a bad choice on a white body, the white in the panel gaps stands out so badly on the video. Hopefully it’s not too bad in person. Otherwise a pretty cool build.

Fantastic build, only thing I don't like is the fact all the door jams are still white, and it shows in the gaps when the doors are closed. Picky I know, but if I was the client I'd ask for it to be rectified,.

Love the build but the original white bleeding through every seam on the wrap ruins it for me. If you would have wrapped the door sills and around the windows it would be perfect

The underpaint shows on the gaps

with a 170Ext Sprinter you would EASILY include an stack of Isotherm fridge and freezer, both 'under-the-counter' size, and they could sit left of the shower cubicle - the ceramic hob cooker traditionally sitting on the worktop on the sliding door side. these 'under-the-counter' size Isotherm fridge and freezer could also sit side by side under the worktop on the sliding door side, beginning with the space wasted on that shelved cabinet serving that flimsy-looking outside folding table.

Love the wrap. Did the customer order hearing protection for how much noise the tires will make on the highway? This is where the large majority of the driving will be done.

This seems like the kind of Van for rich people that get tired of living in a 7 bedroom house so they decide to put their house on wheels. This is the nicest van on the market hands down especially if your looking to live in a Van.

Defiantly a dream rig.

This Van is awesome but... The next step is to paint the inner fenders black and wrap the door jams black as well. U can see the white when the door are closed.

Overall I like most of the layout and build ideas in this van and it gives me some ideas for a future van build for myself. However, there are a couple of negatives for me and one of them is the wrap which is not impressive. The other negative is the dark interior which makes it seem like a cave as opposed to a pleasant living space. It's a small space to begin with and lightening up the interior paint and finishes would make it so much more inviting and livable. Just offering a bit of constructive criticism from a female perspective.

Is this particular van build truly a four season van? By that I mean does it have added wool insulation throughout?

Great build. You forgot to show how the van gets heated? Also is there a gray water tank. Is there Freeze protection for the fresh water Tank. Also would there be additional space to mount a generator? How about back-up rear, side and front cameras? The spare tire should be concealed to avoid vandalism. So you have no solar panels on the roof in case you engine fails and no land power available. This build should of had more redundancy. You never mentioned that this van has a ceiling exhaust fan. But a great Job. Thank you.

I just wish the Sprinter was a few inches wider.

This is very cool. I'm surprised at how many people out there buy vans with such small bathrooms and showers. Especially active people who are always getting dirty. Seems to me getting clean would be a very import part to owning something like this.
