This is a dual kit build of two famous aircraft flown by American Ace Francis Stanley "Gabby" Gabreski
Academy kits have very nice recessed panel lines and surface details, basic interior but beautiful markings from Cartograf to honor an American hero and fighter pilot.

I have made about 30 WW2 model planes, 1/48"" scale and still have them. Did this after a friend at work showed me a boxed plane. This was right after getting married in 1975. One of my grandsons and I put together one that was still in the box after many years.

2 of my favorite aircraft. the most beautiful jet ever produced and one badass prop driven fighter. the only prop driven fichter i find more appealing is the f-4-u 1a corsair.

I have this combo kit still boxed, in my stash. I had forgotten it. I am inspired, going to dig it out and build them. I also built a 1/72 Spitfire in Gabreski's markings, during his time flying for the RAF Polish Squadron. He didn't make his first kill til he got back into the USAAF flying the P-47. Also, on his last mission before rotating home near the war's end, he got cocky flying too low, and crashed his Thunderbolt. Finished WWII as a POW.

Nice build, especially the camouflage. A couple of things you didn’t mention and might be useful to someone who buys this kit - the kit I’m building has P-47D instructions for the razorback version so some of the part numbers are wrong. Not difficult to work out what goes where though. The only other issue is the P-47D radio antenna. The hole for it in the kit is where it would be on a razorback - with it fitted in that hole the bubble canopy can’t open far enough (it should slide back as far as the armoured pilot seat headrest) for the pilot to get in or out. Photographs of the bubbletop show the antenna should be located on the fuselage top just in front of where the beginning of the intercooler vents in the fuselage side are attached. Just open the canopy fully and it should be right behind the canopy, about 5mm further back from the hole in the kit, so the kit hole needs filling and a new one drilling in the correct place.

I've recently built Academys P-47 D, all in all a nice kit, but it has some issues. The canopy is completely wrong, i used the Revell canopy, which is much better in shape and the frames are better too. The landing gear is way too long, the legs should be shortened. The antenna is in the wrong position, the sliding canopy part wouldn't opened fully.

On my 1/48 kit there is space in between wings and fuselage, i filled it with putty, but now with primer i can see the putty marks and scratches underneath, pretty hard to sand because of the curve, what should i do? It looks pretty ulgy

"P" was for "pursuit", which was replaced by "F" for "fighter". Some American airplanes, such as the P-47 and the P-51, experienced the transition and were later designated F-47 and F-51. "A" was and still is for "attack". The A-26 Intruder was later changed to B-26, and later on it was changed back to A-26. The change to B-26 led to confusing the type with the B-26 Marauder, another type altogether. The "Bf" in the Bf-109 is the German abbreviation for "Bavarian Aircraft Works", or Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFW), which produced the airplane. It was later changed to Me-109 to honor its creator, Willy Messerschmitt.
