I kept saying "Go, go, go,.." but watching the Dept. of Transportation vehicles (the stationary ones with flashing lights) and their accompaniment of guys filling potholes, plunging into the water, well, that was heartbreaking!
@@athens31415 I'm sure it was unintentional. I'm not sure if a liason exists between the two entities. They might not have heard a warning from their vehicles. Walkie talkies might have been present. So many questions. Good ones too.
FSK bridge collapse = Sri Lankan barge accidentally knocking the FSK bridge down, accidentally drowning cheap workers from below the u.s. southern border.
We ought to remember these people with compassion and gratitude. Our entire infrastructure depends on the work of immigrants. It’s _always_ been this way in the US. The inevitable casualties of our greatest public works have always been borne by immigrants. But they keep coming here. They keep bearing our scorn and doing the work we refuse to do. And they keep elevating our country with their pioneering spirit and compassion, generosity, and ingenuity forged in fire. In spite of our hate. It’s simply miraculous. May the memories of the lost be blessed.
Wow. The last passenger vehicle gets off the bridge 35 seconds before the ship strikes the bridge. And you can still see the lights from the construction vehicles when the bridge goes down. How tragic.
What I don't understand is, that construction crew had to have seen that ship coming. Wondering why that didn't get in their trucks and book it off the bridge. That already had blocked off all other traffic. Such a tragedy.
@@judyrhoda4071 That’s what I’ve been wondering myself. The officers blocked the traffic from going over, nobody had any of the worker’s phone numbers to call them? Has anything new been reported that shows someone tried getting in touch with them? It is very sad and I send my condolences to their loved ones. 🙏
Streamtime Live youtube channel is where this came from. You can see a live view 24/7 of this port there. I recommend checking out their other cams too including the Lock 19 cam. :)
Same here! Had to scroll passed dozens of videos before finding raw footage. I do not need the generic news anchor voice to describe what I'm about to watch with my own eyes.
The last vehicle made it over the bridge with only 40 seconds to spare! It only took about 5 seconds for the main part of the bridge to land in the water! Thank God the police were able to stop traffic! I wish someone could have told the construction workers in time.
Yeah I watched this video prepared to be righteously enraged for the sake of the road crew but there was absolutely no possibility that they could have made it off. Even assuming they all were in vehicles, they got the message exactly when the bridge was closed, and they instantly drove at top speed - they still couldn’t have made it to safety. The bridge collapsed too quickly. It’s always astonishing and shocking to see how catastrophically suspension bridges fail.
@irenafarm Not to sound like an a$$hole (like the guy talking about imaginary sky wizards) but I believe this is a truss bridge..basically 2 supports and if one goes the whole thing goes- again, focusing on the poor souls who perished of course, and not what kind of bridge it is! God bless!
When I used to live in Dundalk for 10 years every day, I’d see the Key Bridge from my house every day. I look out my bathroom window and I’d see that bridge. We drove over that bridge so many times and made so many memories. One time, my dad was driving an armored military vehicle. He called my mother and I and said he is on the Key Bridge. He turned on the big bright lights on the vehicle and told us to look at the bridge. and I saw him all the way from my house. 😢. (Sorry I vented but I had to get it out)
You are not venting, just sharing a wonderful memory. That must've been so cool to see your Dad's lights from so far away. The bridge may be gone for now but it will rebuild, and your memories will stay as firm as ever.
That reminds me of sighting my sailor spouse on the deck of "his" aircraft carrier right before it went under the Golden Gate Bridge, with my young son in his stroller and minding him and videotaping it parked on the pedestrian walkway on the Golden Gate Bridge. I had lots of luck that day holding the camera steady and of course laughing excitedly because I spotted him waving up at me standing in a small group of men. Even my toddler bobbed gleefully while munching a cheekful of blueberry bagel. It was early morning and we walked the short distance to the bridge from our quarters in the Presidio. Loved that location.
What most media reports have missed so far is that the ship actually loses power twice. The first time for a full minute between 01:21 and 02:22 and then again at 03:27 with power partially returning at 03:58. Her engines go full astern shortly after the power returns the first time at 02:30 but this doesn't slower her but rather rotates her directly into the path of the bridge pylon. She shuts down all engines at 4:50 and then strikes the bridge pylon at 05:33. She also doesn't appear to drop her port bow anchor until a few seconds after she contacts the bridge pylon. So basically she went from normal operation to deadly disaster in 4 minutes. In those four minutes there were two periods of complete darkness and no systems functioning for one and a half minutes. So only two and a half minutes to restart systems, identify the power failure and regain control. This would have been 4 minutes of total confusion and panic between the crew and the pilot. Its a miracle that they were able alert the bridge operator and they were able to close down traffic in that time - although maintenance workers in the middle of the bridge clearly had no time to evacuate.
@@keithmoore8888because it’s speculation. I’m not saying I don’t believe them, because that’s definitely something a cheapskate shipping company would do, but it’s just a RU-vid comment. Take it with a grain of salt.
That’s what I want to know. If you lost power how come the ship was straight until it turned right into the bridge. If you have no power then like any vehicle you can change its course. Here you can clearly see they were able to turn this ton of ton cargo ship to turn. You know how hard that is. Try turning your steering wheel without electricity. Or your power steering doesn’t work. You can’t change the direction of it. But here it looks like they could. But they could stop the cars. Count how long it took for all the cars to stop crossing over. I think someone dropped the ball. I’m not saying everybody could have been saved but, something doesn’t add up right at all!
The ship lost all electrical power and what happened is there is no main engine power to propel the ship since all those generators giving electricity just tripped. Usually this ship has three or more main generators giving electrical power. It drifted and even moving at dead slow speed you just can’t stop it. It’s a massive ship and all the steering controls are useless without those electrical equipment running through the ship. I was once a third assistant engineer aboard bulk carriers and I’ve experience this kind of situations. RIP to those guys on the bridge.Accidents happen but ship’s proper maintainnance is in question for sure…
That's very odd. Sounds like that ship was sabotaged. I wouldn't doubt it either. So many nuts we've let into this country since Biden stole the office.
This was also my question. Depending on the how deep this portion of the channel is, it could take 10 minutes for the anchor to take effect, up to 20 minutes in open sea. Still you would think that dropping the anchor would be the instinctive response. @@tiffanylynn6839
"Seven seconds until the end." Just a little over seven seconds after the initial impact of a cargo ship's hull, the the main artery through the ports of Baltimore lands in the waters below what was the Francis Scott Key Bridge... The lives of the people in Baltimore changed forever. To all of the families and close friends of those who were either killed or injured during the collapse, my heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to you. To the fallen, may you all rest in peace.
You should look up interviews with Frank Manley. Similar incident in 1975 when the SS Lake Illawarra hit the Tasman Bridge in Australia at night. A section collapsed, but it was so dark it wasn't obvious there was no road there. The car in front of Frank just disappeared from his view as it fell hundreds of feet into the water. Frank slammed on the brakes. There's a photo of his car the next day. The front of the car dangling over the edge.
The hardest part of this is being able to see the moment the bridge collapses and seeing those poor men falling. Its being heartbreaking, they could not run, they were not able to escape.
I think since they said RIP and mentioned recovery they were talking about finding the deceased loved ones; closure for the families, of course ❤️🩹 :’(
So, glad your alive. Great respect for truckers because even with my 2 degrees and 25 years in Psychiatric most of us could never do what you do. Happy for your family that you still here. Do, something nice to celebrate your lives. K ?
When your first coming up on it the bridge looks like its touching the sky the entrance to it always freaked me out and yeah the winds will push you around like a tin can up there
Maybe traffic should always stop when big boats pass. Everywhere in the world. Treat them as if they are trains. Better saving lives than avoiding traffic jams or being a little late
I have worked on several river bridges as a land surveyor in my 40 year career and I have Never seen huge support structures totally unprotected? On structures this big they should of had concrete islands around the pylons, long pointed concrete islands that deflect big ships like this. Even most railroad trestles have deflection islands. Just something else to disrupt supply lines, thanks Brandon!
You were making sense and sounding quite informative, logical and well reasoned…. then you threw in those last 2 words and elevated your stupidity to heights unknown. Great job fella!!!
This is a reminder of all the things we take for granted (including life). We ASSUME a plane's computer will work. We ASSUME the car coming toward us in the other lane won't swerve into our lane. We ASSUME that the car in front of us won't have to brake suddenly. We ASSUME that, when we go to a public place, the roof won't fall on us and a gunman won't come in, spraying us with bullets. Some people ask, "What are the odds?' and go on their merry way. But for the victims, the odds turn out to have been 100%.
I'm sure this isn't the case everywhere but we also assume the ground won't fall in and swallow you like what happened here in Florida several years ago where the man was in bed and a sinkhole opened up and he disappeared, his brother was on the other side of the house and by the time he got to his brothers bedroom it was gone. That incident freaked me out incredibly bad. But in order to live a normal life you can't think about all the things that could happen like you listed. So the only way to live normally is to have faith that none of those things will happen.
@@gothgirl4evr881 ... and accept them when they do happen. My grandfather went to work one day and was killed at work. That was back in the day when companies operated under few if any regulations, LOL. We should appreciate when tragedies don't happen, though, and appreciate every good thing that comes along, taking credit for none of it. I don't believe everything just happens randomly, but I do think think there is an element of chance/fate. You mentioned the sinkhole in Florida freaking you out (and I don't blame you), but I think of the much bigger and more famous sinkhole there (well, not a real sinkhole, but the analagy holds) that occurred when that condominium skyscraper simply went down while so many were sleeping in their beds. And, of course, there was 9/11, when so many went to work and never came home. I think of the people who must have been so happy when they were hired to work in those towers - especially those working in that finest of fine restaurants at the top. The bottom line, I think, is that we shouldn't live in fear but we shouldn't just assume that nothing will ever go wrong, either. We do what we can to avoid tragedies and deal with them when they come along.

My question is if the ship was heading between the bridge supports, when the power went out wouldn’t it simply continue to drift in that direction. Based on the comments it seems the actions to stop the ship is what caused the turn in direction. But you don’t need to be expert to see that stopping a ship at that point is not probable
The most important thing is human life and the losses in this matter should be as small as possible. The bridge can always be rebuilt, but not human lives 🙏🙏🙏
Apparently from the video, there were two cars that made it across the bridge just twenty or thirty seconds before it collapsed. Just in the nick of time!
I am so heartbroken for those who have lost their lives. This is devastating. The fear they must have felt before they took their last breaths. I am terrified of rising water and collapsing structures. I can only imagine the fright these humans must have gone through. May their families recover and their bodies be collected for a proper burial.
I was on the bridge just hours before it went down and I was going to be on it again just a few hours after it happened. I can't stop thinking about it, how much traffic traveled on there. If this happened during rush hour, there would be no way that a 30-60 second warning would have been enough. This could have been so much worse, and I can't stop thinking about that

_Who_ are you asking? Port Camera footage has been released too, but this video is the most popular because it has a wide view showing the whole bridge and the whole ship. The Port authority camera I saw on the news was mostly for monitoring road traffic on the bridge. It showed part of the ship just prior to impact. There's other cameras, but I don't know why you'd expect this video to have a compilation of them. Maybe someone else will do a compilation, or maybe you can find them and edit a few together?
Imagine being the people who drove over it just before it collapsed? I'll bet they are glad they didnt take five minutes longer doing whatever that day.
Not even five minutes for the last group that went across. If they had been delayed by even 30 seconds the outcome would have been different for them. It's wild when I think about it.
You see those 3 steady blinking lights center right, those are the construction crew vehicles. They were on a 9pm to 5am shift and were having their break in those vehicles at 1am when the bridge collapsed. My guess is that even though traffic to the bridge was stopped just in time, there was no way to warn them safely to get off the bridge.
So sad, given the last truck crossed 30 seconds before it collapsed they really wouldn't had anytime to pack up and leave even if they had any idea how little time they had.
The authorities on location seem to have known less than a minute before impact. It just happened too quickly. I also doubt anyone thought that the impact would result in such a massive and quick collapse.
I would love to see an interview with the last driver who crossed the bridge. When he goes out of frame there is like 39-41 seconds before the bridge is hit and starts to fall apart, I just found a calculator online that shows if he was going 55 mph he would have traveled 0.5958 miles in 39 seconds. Would that have put him at a point where he was on the road leaving the area, not even realizing what he had just survived.
Yes, 34 seconds, & just 5 seconds to collapse after impact, Wow, Thank God the ship called a mayday that stopped traffic, but heartbreaking that the construction workers didn't evacuate?! They were fixing potholes, & maybe didn't hear their radios.? Prayers for everyone affected by this 🙏📿

He must be unaware that if he'd been a few minutes later, he wouldn't have gotten on the bridge at all cos the transit cops stopped the traffic when dispatch told them about the mayday call from the ship.

Drove across that bridge the evening before. Driven across and been driven across that bridge so many times. Use to work at the dock in Dundalk which is like right there. Crazy to think that bridge is gone, especially after just driving on it a few hours before.
Seems the Bridge wasn’t designed to absorb horizontal impact from ships that large. Shock waves hitting the bridge joints seems to have cause most of the damage.
it's because it was a truss design bridge. one big solid mass of interconnected steel. when something fails, it brings the entire structure down with it. they're sturdy and cheap. they can take a lot of weight, but when they fail, oh boy do they fail. the best, (and more expensive) bridge designs are designed in ways that allow partial collapses while leaving the majority intact. unfortunately those big fancy bridges are rarely used outside of the "face" of a city, meaning ones anywhere else are just focused on the utility aspect. "if it gets the job done, it's good enough." until it isn't. yet another disaster of the rich ruling over every aspect of our lives for their own sake.
Watching this was so gut wrenching! I actually started to cry! Watching those cars continue to go over the bridge and just the thought of those people not even knowing what might be! Ugh!
Cars continue to go over the bridge? They were all safe. It was the construction crew that got unlucky…….. The Bridge operator stopped traffic just in time.
I don’t really understand the problem. It’s available - why would any newstainment network repost it, or play it on their broadcast? It’s like 6 minutes long of basically nothing, unless you’re really focused. Newstainment network segments are produced with short attention spans in mind. It’s fine. It’s not their job to do anything other than make their sponsors happy. Yay, capitalism. If you want full details, there’s always hyperlocal information like this post, easily available nowadays.
This was tooo Intense to watch my heart was racing the whole time....Lord please comfort the families of those who lost the life this is heartbreaking 💔
The big takeaway I get from the full length video is the power went out at 1:22, the ship impacted at 5:34, collapse at 5:40. So a 4m12s span. While I read they contacted the port/authorities, I'm surprised the bridge wasn't in a more prepared state by that time.
On power failure at. 1.22 , if the ship was fixed on course , did The wind or water current deviate the original set course? In the 4.12 span was an sos sent? Would be interesting to see the interview transcripts of the Pilot, Captain and crew on this mysterious incident .
I know the whole thing depends on whether the ship had directional control but I have a couple of observations: When the ship blacked out why didn't the emergency navigation lights come on, this may indicate complete electrical failure, even of some of the controls and instrumentation, the navigation lights came on when electrical power was restored and stayed on when there was a a second apparent loss of power. More importantly tho' the ship seems to veer to starboard after the initial black out and before electrical power was restored and just before black smoke came out of the funnel. This indicates that the engine had been put astern before electrical power was restored and reached full power when the black smoke was seen and caused the swing the starboard to increase. What caused this swing to starboard, was it the engine being put astern, which normally happens when a ship's engine is put astern, loss of directional control or external factors?
This is horrific! I do heard that they prevent any traffic from crossing the bridge. But unfortunately, I do heard a few construction workers on this bridge didn't evacuate when the ship was very close to the bridge. :( R.I.P. Francis Scott Key Bridge (1977-2024).
Actually, yep. This is one of those fixed 24/7 monitor feeds. See the StreamTime logo on the video. You could've just tuned in and watched ships go by and cars over the bridge, if you felt the urge. That"s how something like this was caught on film as it happened. Hope this helps!
So many “accidents” lately. Massive train derailment, water turns deadly, chickens dying, fires that seam to know where to hit first, planes ripping out, ships taking down bridges that incidentally are a major food supply route, not to mention so many people dying of aggressive cancers, strokes or heart problems… so strange
What a catastrophic event! My heart goes out for those lost in this tragic event. Followings are my observation: Frame 1:22- Ship loose power and continue to move in straight course. -No indication of Emergency generator coming back, which is supposed to be back less than half a minute. Frame 2.21-All the light of the ship come back which is an indication of Main Generator coming back. Frame 2.34- Black smoke appears from the chimney. This may be due to overloading of the generator caused by simultaneous start of many systems on the Ship. Frame 2.45- Ship starts turning to the starboard side. It seems that starboard side anchor was released and engaged causing the ship to turn. The turn is the beginning of the catastrophic event. Frame 3.28- Power goes off again. Possibly the generator trip due to overload trip as indicated by the color of the smoke. Frame 4.59- Last cars leave the camera view from the left side of the bridge. Frame 5.31- Ships bottoms touch the outer guard of the pillar of the bridge. Frame 5.33- Water splashes as the ships bow come in to contact with the outer guard of the pillar. Frame 5.39- Bridge start collapsing. Possibly the bow came into contact with the pillar after it over run the insufficient length of the guard.
First of all my thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost their lives and their families. Watching this video I too was hoping that those vehicles crossing would speed up🙏🏾🙏🏾 But I have a question. Why was it that this ship “allegedly” lost power after it turned towards one of the bridges supports? This ship turned in that direction even though there was so much space to its left. The lights were still on just before impact! This video shows EVERYTHING!!
The ship dropped her anchor in an attempt to slow down. That had the unfortunate consequence of swinging her to starboard. My guess is the initial power outage did something to the controls and they could not slow her down the normal way so they tried using the anchor to do it. That'd when the captain sent the mayday.
They meant injured survivors, I believe. There’s only two, I believe. One was severely injured, but the other walked away. Unless that person is gifted with an astounding degree of resilience, they will almost certainly struggle with PTSD for quite a while. I do have to say this here. I’ve seen some negative remarks about the fact that the crew was all immigrants. They’d necessarily all have legal status, as they worked for the state. However, legal status CAN include people who entered illegally as refugees. The vast majority of those people traveled on foot from Central America, through the one of the most brutal land routes in the Western Hemisphere. So, when I say that the survivors of the bridge accident might have PTSD, it’s also very probable that they actually have the mental resilience to shrug off such a tragedy. They’ve already experienced weeks and weeks of trauma and suffering, to get themselves and possibly their families, into the US. “Illegals” who came here via the land route from South America are some of the kindest, most chill, most delightful people I’ve ever known. Their resilience, generosity, and compassion was forged in the cruel mountain pass between South and Central America. We used to call this the “pioneer spirit” and celebrate it. It was a kind of forging and quenching that a lot of our ancestors experienced. Americans are “great” because of this periodic injection of forged people groups. We’re foolish to reject the refugees who represent the latest example of this unique strength of US culture. Refugees make us stronger. We should welcome and celebrate them. May the memories of the lost, be blessed.
The ship seemed to be making some nonsensical swivel at the end there! If the ship had not tried to swivel left (for whatever reason), there would not have been any collision. Zoom in, The ship was riding clean at the start of this clip. Straight line, safe. That swivel caused the collision. Intentional? No idea, but there must be some kind of explanation for that. Seemed completely uncalled for. It was safe!
at 4:21 of the video we see the last two SUV/CARS crossing the bridge, (tractor trailers) were seen earlier . They make it past the bridge support (that does not collapse) we see on our left at 4:59. The ship hits the support at 5:33. It looks to me like they got the traffic stopped about a half minute B4 the ship hits. Nobody told the work crew of 8 souls??
@@kathrynmcmorrow7170 I don't think the 8 workers on the bridge knew the ship was headed for one of the main supports. I don't know if the horn even works if the power is off to the ship.
Tunnels under water I think is more riskier. If they collapse, u got no chance. For bridges above water, u still have some chance of survival evident by the rescued 2 workers out of 8 who were on the bridge.
The scrutiny the captain is about to have unleashed into his life. Will take a lifetime of paperwork and reliving every second and millisecond , of every inch of that bridge, both the orders on his bridge and the physical bridge. God help him as- well

At 2:23 the lights on the ship suddenly come on. I think that’s when they realized they would hit. You then see thick smoke from funnel. I imagine they try to make a maneuver to avoid the collision but too much inertia. Very sad.
I was on a baseball trip last summer and happened to take a boat cruise on the Inner Harbor and the Key Bridge was pointed out to us. So sad to think that lives were lost in that spot. 😢
What strikes me most (as a Dutchman) that, from what I can see on satellite imagery, there appears to be no protection at all around the bridge pylons.
@@leonidasofsparta1431 Well, you can, but that's just the way we usually design things. In The Netherlands we usually do protect structures against large vessels and usually to such a point that it won't prevent all damage in the worst case possible, but does prevent catastrophic failure. Mind you that such protection isn't just a hard stopper right before the object to be protected, but usually is a deflecting kind of protection: way before the object that should be protected from catastrophic failure, it already starts, meaning vessels can only cross under a bridge when adhering to specific paths (and if a vessel is low in the water due to its load, it can mean that vessels can only use the absolute center of a waterway underneath a bridge). Should a vessel lose control, it is basically guided into the set waterway, just like the guard rails on a motorway.
No conspiracy theories , that vessel turned hard to starboard shortly before impact. Not just forward momentum , current and drift, there was some form of steering input to make that turn possible
Nope, it wasn't moving forward fast enough to turn that much with the rudder. However, if you THINK about it... in a current, with the bridge pillar blocking part of the flow, the other part of the ship exposed to the current would be pushed sideways.... but you know... that's just logic...
For those wondering why the vessel wasn't heading "straight" when it lost power, please understand that rivers have currents and varying depths. The important thing to understand was that nothing could get this vessel back on track except full power and navigational control.
@@JETalley It had just said goodbye to its two tugboats a few minutes before it lost power. Companies don't like to pay the tugs to guide the massive container ships too far. The important thing to remember is mass times velocity. A 200 million pound vessel traveling about 9 MPH lost navigational control and engine power just minutes before it reached the bridge. They even called the tugs to come back, but it was too late. There was no speeding up.
So apparently the ship was traveling at 9.2 knots… 8 mph. Explain how it stopped abruptly after hitting the bridge. I don’t think a bridge would stop that ship, when traveling that speed.
From 4:34 was the last car on the video to 5:35 it took a minute for the ship to hit the bridge.. I heard the captain called in 5 minutes before it happened.
The problem looks to be that the lights went off briefly, and then back on for a few minutes, and finally off again. Had they not come back on then they probably would've called the mayday a few minutes earlier and the message would've been passed onto the construction workers earlier. Not saying that the construction workers would've lived as they hadn't even started to drive away but they would've had a couple more minutes. A couple of minutes in the context of this situation is vital.
DC native here! Never visited Baltimore but i'm sad i'll never get to cross this bridge. Well, the original version. Horrible! My condolences, and may God grant comfort and peace to the families!!
