O pilão pode ficar em local mais alto e ainda aproveitar a água dele para irrigar ou encher um açude para aguar por gotejamento o pomar, ou a horta. Assim não desperdiça o excesso de água que provocará uma erosão no terreno em pouco tempo. A água não tem necessidade de voltar para o rio. A caixa que fica sobre a roda d'água pode ser maior e com distribuição em outras direções, que alimentará outras necessidades de água para as plantações.
