I'm really happy for you and (hopefully) with you right now, and also very grateful for this experience. Thank you! )) Hope it was worth time for you both).
I started watching during the fifth lab arc and it's been a journey you guys have thebbest reactions even thought ive only followed fmab with you guys. But the theories after each episode is what got me. Can't watch any of your other reactions cuz I haven't watched those anime but I've seen hunter just last year can't wait for it
14:26 - Every fan feels the pain😂. Fun Fact: Hiromu Arakawa (the author) claims she can't draw convincing kissing scenes with her characters so its either always distance shots or partially covered. Regarding Hohenheim...there's an extra one shot after his death, where he meets Trisha (in the afterlife) and he proudly tells her how their boys worked out their problems and they'll be waiting for them...
The series began with 2 brothers (Hohenheim and Father) traveling East and West to teach and preach, and it ended with 2 brothers (Edward and Alphonse) traveling East and West to learn.
@@AnimeCritical Personally, I don't like the 2003 version. It's just that I am not satisfied with the ending of that show. It's a very negative ending.
*Everyone at the start of FMA:* "Golly, I sure do hope these poor boys come out okay!" *_EVERYONE_* *at the* *_end_* *of FMA:* "God, I want Olivier to *crush* me"
Wrath died peacefully Greed died satisfied Gluttony died eaten Sloth died from too much effort Lust died before she could penetrate Mustang Envy died envying humans Pride was reborn to a humble life Quite ironic I must say
I also miss a scene where Ed on his dad's grave say something like "Thank you old man.". But at the same time, even without mentioning him, is clear by the way Ed uses his hair, choice of clothes and the briefcase that is following his dad's steps. So is a neat little indirect way to say that.
The reason Roy is allowed to use the stone to restore his sight, narratively speaking, is because he never chose to use human transmutation. The things that are taken are, in a way, karmic punishment, and the characters aren't allowed to just cheat their way out of attoning for their sins. But since that doesn't apply to Roy he's allowed to just use the stone. This shows ending is just so perfect. The moment Al says it's ticklish and Winry realized "wait, why can he feel something....wait", and then those tears, like Ed said "I promise the next time I make you cry we'll have our bodies back and they'll be tears of joy". And that final shot with them as a family, LOVE. And then that last shot, Ed, same hair as Hohenheim, same coat, same image of him walking out the door, but smiling. My tears are unending, it's so rare to get an anime with an ending that doesn't disappoint.
"and the characters aren't allowed to just cheat their way out of attoning for their sins" I don't really agree with this. Ed and Al were literally children grieving their mother, they can't be held eternally responsible for their mistake. "Sin" is only wrong if you have full knowledge of why what you're doing is wrong (they didn't) and understand the consequences of your actions (they didn't). Ed and Al aren't "not allowed" to use the stones, they refuse to do so because they don't want to associate in any way with the sacrifice of living people. They feel that it would be morally wrong to use it not because it would be "cheating", but because they would be profiting from the sacrifice of innocent lives. Roy is more practical and understands that refusing to use the stone won't erase the atrocities done to create it, and that its power - no matter how ill-gotten - can still be used for good. Ed and Al are idealists, and Roy is a realist. Both are valid ways of viewing the world, despite their differences.
Oh my god Carlie's reaction to all the Ed/Winry stuff and the end credits is everything😭 Idk if I've ever seen such genuine happiness in *any* reaction before. Love you guys, thanks for experiencing this journey with us❤
Some of the moments I love for obvious reasons: 1. Ed opening the door of truth to promise Al he will come back. 2. Ed slowly helping winry let go of the gun. 3. During the fight with Scar, Bradley unleashing his frustrations and fury stemming from a life he has no control of. 4. Olivier not closing the tunnel exit and the rooftop scene with buccaneer. 5. Ed saving Al by humbling himself and letting go of one thing he took pride of. 6. Al using the Philosopher's stone and Heinkel's speech. 7. Ling's speech and Greed's anguish after killing Bido 8. Hohenheim photograph scene 9. Pride identity reveal (tunnel scene and the scene with Hawkeye) 10. Ed using his own life force to close up his wound after being punctured by a large metal with the help of the 2 chimeras AND MANY MORE. I love this show and I'm glad you enjoyed it
Best ending ever, i cant express how much i love fmab ( it's my comfort anime watched more than 20 times) absolutely love the ending its so satisfying damn im getting emotional
@@AnimeCritical It's so much worse in every aspect since they decided to made up a new story without respecting the original manga material, that they lost in the filler so they had to cancel it because it made no sense at all trying to catch up the story; so no, it's not better, it's just another story, and a much worse one.
@@fus3rcillo Just because it doesn't match up to the manga doesn't automatically make it worse. Lol! Is that your best point? The 2003 series does this show real justice.
@@AnimeCritical well your point is absolutely no one, at least I have a point. And if you want more points: the story is really bad compared to the original, the characters are more flat and the relations between them makes no sense, the hole point of the story is missed just because they tried to make the story more edgy, with a poor a bad direction, add 100 more points, and go to the end, which is an absolutely aberration. There you have 5 more points, still waiting one point of you, besides you saying "this is good and this is bad", which is not any kind of point.
I LOVED the Fullmetal Alchemist compilation in the middle hahahaha Great reaction series guys, I can see how much you guys loved the show, and I hope that was Ange trying to hide a few tears from us 😄. Cannot wait for HxH next, absolute legendary run of shows you guys are on right now.
A detail I LOVE that the video kinda skipped over is when Winry hears Al says, "That tickles!", she knows he must be back in his body. That's why she's in a bit of a trance on her way to the door.
The Heart made Fullmetal has stuck with me ever since I was a kid watching it the first time. Genuinely inspired me to keep going through a lot. Great reactions as always. You have now watched one of the best anime of all time. Can't wait for HxH which is just as good. Quick Favorite List(Gonna put my favorite quotes as well) 1. Greed/ling(“Greed may not be good, but it’s not so bad either. You humans think greed is just for money or power, but everyone wants something they can’t have.”) 2. Ed("There's no such thing as a painless lesson-they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can't gain anything without losing something first. Although if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made Fullmetal." ) 3. Roy Mustang("Nothing's perfect, the world's not perfect, but it's there for us, trying the best it can. That's what makes it so damn beautiful.") 4. Scar("Our names are given to us by God. I have betrayed God, and so I no longer have a name.") 5. Hohenheim("I thought living forever was nothing but exhausting. But since I met you and our sons, for the first time I felt glad to be alive. It was a full life.") Honorable Mention: Alphonse(“On the day we left, we burned down the family home and all the familiar things inside. Because some memories aren’t meant to leave traces.” )
Winry opening the door to see them is like her portal of truth. Which is a nice touch from the first opening where they show al and Ed losing parts of themselves and she’s shown just shook bc she lost something too. It came full circle.
@@benjamindavis2475 It took Hohenheim an incredibly long time to do that, and the souls in his philosopher's stone were part of him and not a separate stone (how would you even start to communicate with souls trapped in a stone?). I don't think it's really an option for anybody else.
Mustang and Hawkeye are my two favorite characters. Mustang gets a lot of love for being badass but I think that neither character works without the other. The history they shared with Hawkeye’s father’s research and the war in Ishval is incredibly tragic. Even though a romantic relationship is not developed on-screen, you could feel the vulnerability, trust, and loyalty they shared with each other in every scene. The culmination of those elements is written beautifully in the climactic final battle when she literally becomes his eyes, guiding his hand and staying at his side to the very end. One scene I really covet is the one where Hawkeye receives a phone call from Roy in her apartment. At this point, she is essentially being held hostage by the Fuhrer, she is unable to directly interact with Roy for fear of jeopardizing him or herself, and she has just discovered Selim’s identity, realizing that nowhere is safe and that he’s always watching from the shadows. She enters her apartment and hugs her dog, desperate for any source of comfort in this nightmare situation. We see a wide shot of her apartment which seems very small and barren, a testament to how little she truly thinks of herself and how little she thinks she deserves in terms of basic happiness and self expression. At this point she was likely on the verge of totally breaking down when suddenly the phone rings. Roy just wanted to talk to her and does so under the guise of a drunken call so as to not seem suspicious to her captors. When she doesn’t return the goofy demeanor he immediately realizes that something is wrong and attempts to help but doesn’t press further as he understands that they’re probably being listened to. However, just the call itself proved to be comfort enough to keep her going. This is why the scene where she saves him from being consumed by his hatred while killing Envy is so powerful. There, we see finally that neither of them can stand without the other. He is her hope to atone for her own sins, and she is his beacon for cause. I really appreciate how while in the foreground, the story highlights a traditional and wholesome relationship developing between Ed and Winry, in the background it shows us a much darker, more mature one between Roy and Riza. The show doesn’t need to give us any scenes that directly portray their love in order for us to know how much they care for and rely on each other. It’s presented through symbolism and subtext: her father’s research, she being his eyes, etc. Not to sound sappy but honestly one of the best written relationships I’ve seen in animation.
I'm 85% sure Ed and Winry were dating by the time he was leaving. Two reasons: 1. Winry's wearing Ed's jacket. That's texbook girlfriend behavior. 2. Their whole exchange while she was making sure he had everything he needed and Ed not really listening. Also texbook girlfriend behavior. I mean, that sigh she made at 13:02 is SO perfect. 😅
100%. That ending was an incredibly cute and awkward marriage proposal. It was 2 years after they came home. It would have been insane if they weren't together at that point, and if neither Ed or Winry had made any advances during that time I'm pretty sure Al would have had something to say about that.
@@LightsephirothIt was 100% a marriage proposal. The Promised Day took place in 1915. The train station scene takes place 2 years later in 1917. The datebook says they got married in 1917.
That's how you end an anime. The complete victory lap, lessons learned, and a glimpse of the future for these characters. We had the final battle including all the deaths last episode, so we didn't need more of that. Oh and by the way, if you ever wanna do one more small thing: The bloopers from the English voice actors are pretty popular among reactors. It's a mix of slip-ups and just the VAs having fun with the scenes.
Man we're at the end again 😭 Everytime i see a reactor finish this series, i always feel a hole in my heart like when i first finished the show I think you guys had my favorite reaction to this series! I loved it the whole way, and its a shame its over 😭 Thank you so much for your reactions!
Carlie portraied the whole community by seeing the photo hahahaahah really had a lot of fun in this series of reactions cannot wait for more of the haikyuu reactions really enjoy your content guys ❤❤ a big hug from a mexican fan 7*-*7
I have no issues with Roy choosing to get his eyesight back because it wasn't his choice to do human transmutation in the first place. It was forced upon him. His eyesight was very unfairly taken.
Loved your reaction to the series. An absolute classic that holds up despite being so old. Your intermission showing Ange saying Fullmetal Alchemist EVERY EPISODE was fantastic.
Long time lurker first time caller here. To this day FMAB is my all time favorite show and love reliving moments with everyone. I genuinely loved your reactions throughout the show and thank you for giving it a chance. Great channel guys!
You might've missed (because seeing the babies understandably makes anyone ecstatic) but a grownup Mei is also on the pic which means she and Al must've been already a couple. So that's another closure on another ship we've been wanting. 😊
One of the many things I love about this show is the symmetry between the scenes where Hohenheim leaves Trisha and the boys, and where Winry welcomes Ed and Al back.
Carlie, if its any consolation, many of us hated that silly mustache back then xD it wasn't in the manga so maybe the studio was in a silly mood 😂 It was such a pleasure rewatching this anime with you! So glad you loved this story as much as we do, it's been 13 years since I first watched it, but it only gets better with time I wasn't able to comment this before but the Rain cover was my favorite! As one of my fav OP ever, it really made it justice ❤ See you around with Mob and 86!❤ PS: Thank you for the Fullmetal Alchemist compilation, it was absolutely necessary for closure 😂
Absolutely incredible series! Have enjoyed every episode watching you two experiencing one of the best anime out there (and what an ending with Carlie's reaction to the hug and kids haha). There is just one last Fullmetal thing you guys should watch.. the bloopers (the voice actors having some fun)
the intermission 😂😂😂 i discovered you guys through ur FMAB reaction & im so glad! staying along for the Haikyuu ride now, & plan to go back and watch some of ur other reaction series’ as well 😁 a bittersweet end to the journey but im so glad u guys enjoyed it! it’s my favorite anime of all time!
This was so good I’m back watching it for the fourth time just today. Definitely going to have to binge all of the reactions. My favorite part is how much you both bring to the show, even if Ange is a loose unit with his predictions. Hahaha
Really satisfying ending. And I always loved the parallel between the first Elric family picture and the next: - First, There’s the obvious obvious between Ed and his son - Second, while the pictures are similar, you had Hohenheim crying, and now you have Ed with a huge grin, showing all is well in the end Side note: Ed has one of the best proposals in anime history, beaten only by Loud proposing to Yor with the grenade pin. And now that Ed and Winry have a family, safe to say Ed got a taste of that Winry apple pie…
In France, there is an event every year in July called Japan expo that is the biggest Japan's pop culture convention in Europe. I went a few time and one year, don't remember what year it was, we had the premiere of the last episode. We were able to see it even before Japan. And it was awesome. You wouldn't imagine the atmosphere. Like, everyone was on the same energy Carlie was watching it. XD
Just FYI, Ed never got his leg back. It's still automail. Al's reverse soul transmutation only returned Ed's arm, the leg was partial payment for trying to bring back their mom, so he couldnt get that back.
I am very curious how you would react to the old FMA anime. It's not perfect and had many things done terribly, but at the same time it had almost the same amount of absolutely chilling moments, much better pacing in the first half, wonderful music and gorgeous dark atmosphere (that I do even actually prefer to FMAB). I don't say that it is a MUST WATCH anime, but I do believe it will be a very interesting reaction/comparasion from you.
It’s a little bit more *anime* and a lot less tightly written, but yeah the atmosphere is much darker. I like it less because the overall narrative arc is a lot less sharply political (despite Ed and Al’s adventures in the real world).
I will never, ever tire of this story. So glad you guys were able to enjoy it like so many others. Thank you for allowing us to be on this journey with you ❤️
I started watching the show when i saw that you guys have already reacted to it, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is now one of my fav anime and to be totally honest after every episode i came back to your channel and watched you guys react to it, there were few episodes where after a crazy scene i paused the episode in the middle just to see your reaction to it, i have become a true fan of yours, thank you for making Fullmetal Alchemist a blast for me🤞
What an amazing show and series! Its one of the best told stories in anime and it was awesome to see you guys enjoy it so much. Also, bloopers are necessary to watch at the end of fmab
My favourites were 1. Mustang, 2. Ling, 3. Scar, 4. Bradley, 5. Alex. It's so hard to write even a top 5 though because of just how many amazing characters there were and their journeys. Scar probably had the greatest character growth of all characters. The others had expected character growth but no less amazing to see it play out. The fact that the character progression is predictable but in no way does that take away from your enjoyment really is something. I can't believe how much hate Ange had when Selim popped up, that whole couple minutes were so good. Ange looked like a rabid dog chewing on a tyre while watching selim :D I've seen people less uncomfortable being tortured than Ange vs Selim. Who do you think are the MVPs of the series? I think Scars brother was the absolute GOAT, what would their counter attack have been if not for him? They'd all just be dead without that reverse transmutation circle researched by him. Anyone else you can think of?
Also other MVPs Hoe, Mai, Hawkeye and Olivier (but I will also mention Buccaneer and Fu for giving Bradley the mortal wound) bonus points go to Hughes, Izumi and of course the true main character Yoki well we could also say Roy, because his flame alchemy was damn usefull
Welcome back, You now know that this work has become a legend following Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece. Thank you for your continued support of Japanese animation.
To this day, this 64 Ep run of FMAB might be the best complete anime adaptation. Every episode was incredible, and the entire Voice Cast knocked it out of the park! Hate it or Love it, FMAB is 9 times out of 10 in someone's Top 10 Anime of all time!
It’s just so consistently excellent. Even with other series of comparable lengths that I absolutely love, like E7 or Code Geass, there’s definitely episodes, characters, or moments that don’t really land. But with FMAB everything is just so fuckin’ tightly written and plotted.
