Al can do alchemy, anyone can technically, but he has to draw a circle. Edward can do alchemy just by clapping his hands together, and that’s what Al was so impressed by.

A little thing of note, took me a while to figure this out, Bradley’s first name is literally “King”.

Nobody ever talks about how Ed treats getting his body back as second agenda and always talks about getting Al’s body back I mean it makes sense Al actually lost his whole body but I still thinks it’s so nice🥲

"The Truth? What is the Truth?!" That is a loaded question. ☝️ Fun Fact : Ed and Al's Backstory was Not revealed in the Manga until we meet their Teacher. Now i dont know the Reason why the Studio decided to put it all in episode 2, but my guess is that becouse by that time (2009) the Manga had already ended, there was another show which somewhat had a similar story and they just assumed that everybody already knew the gist. Al can do alchemy, just in the traditionell way: by drawing circles and a matrix.

Edward and Alfonse can both use Alchemy. It’s just that Edward doesn’t require a drawn transmutation circle to do it. That’s one of the after effects of seeing the “Truth”.

Full Metal is because of his 'nerves of steel' more than his Automail. While you said you're gonna stop reading comments the leader's name is King Bradley, his title is Fuhrer. And once again welcome to Feelsmetal Alchemist, you'll never be fully prepared for the gut punches its gonna throw at you but its part of why this is one of, if not the, greatest animes ever.

@AniMelon I know how you feel, I cried when Ed sacrificed his arm to transmute Al's soul into the armor. plus the part where Al apologized to Mustang got me balling like a little baby. 🥺😢😭

Transmutation: Using something, to change something. Human Transmutation: Using humans, to change something. Think of using your mom, to literally make a bowl of cereal.

I will say this, I legit feel the old series handled the flashback better as it actually gave us a whole episode to spend with the mother before she was killed. It's one of the few things I have to give the 2003 series props for.

The reason Ed didn't try Alchemy between the night they tried to bring their mom back and when he had his Automail was because even with the whole 'Seen the Truth' thing meaning he doesn't need to draw an Array, he still needs two hands to complete the circuit to channel energy and activate an Alchemical Transmutation. It's been a while since I watched the series, but I think Fullmetal is another term for Automail (the prosthetics), hence it being Ed's title because of the two Automail Limbs - he's got more Fullmetal than you usually see. Also, Bradly might've deliberately picked it to sass the Elric brothers - as you saw in the first episode, people hear 'Fullmetal Alchemist' and look at the 7-foot tall suit of armor, instead of the short kid with concealed prosthetics.

Equivelent exchange. They performed human transmutiation, the creation of a human by alchemy. What they didn't account for is what the equvenent exchange for a human soul is?

Bruh, lime is calcium hydr/oxide. A constituent element of lime's chemical makeup is calcium. Although, apparently, the "recipe" that Edward lists is wrong. But I'm not a biochemistry major.

If you want to watch an episode that shows more about Mama Elric, watch “Mother” from the original Fullmetal Alchemist series. That and “Fullmetal Vs. Flame” are good episodes that cover material that is bypassed in this series.

Sorry if someone already explained this. There's a 2003 version of Full Metal Alchemist that covers most of the same story beats until about a 3rd of the way through until it branches off into it's own canon because it passed up the manga. As a result, Brotherhood heavily condense the beginning story lines down because they'd already been done. (there's actually a character that shows up out of nowhere later in Brotherhood with only the most bare bones of explanation, because the episode he introduced in was only in the 2003 anime.) The 2003 show gets dumped on a lot for not being as good as brotherhood, and it's not, but it was still an excellent show for it's time that tells a darker, more personal story with some very different endings for it's various characters. If you fall in love with the cast here, it might be worth checking out someday.

The backstory is revealed early on in Brotherhood because they wanted to convey how meeting Truth played out differently from the original series. In the manga, we don’t see the backstory until after meeting their teacher.

So this is a spoiler free catchup on FMAB, covering things that the anime shows, but does not make a big point of that many reactors miss. (Not saying you necessarily will, but I think it is helpful anyways.) Anyone can do alchemy, but they need to study and understand the process. for most people it is not worth their time, or is too complicated for them. The transmutation circle is kind of like writing something in computer code. It contains a set of instructions that are then carried out. (For example, freeze this water, or turn this chunk of ground into a spear.) Ed can do alchemy without a circle, which should not be possible with the conventional knowledge of alchemy. This is due to what he saw while in the white void. Human transmutation refers specifically to bringing someone back from the dead, not just any transmutation of a human. There are people who use alchemy to heal wounds, but this is extremely difficult due to all the complicated factors in a human body. It is much more complex than a stone. Finally, while all achemists can do any kind of alchemy (provided they understand the technique, Flame alchemy is not widely known for example) most have a specialty, and they largely stick to that branch. eg: Armstrong mostly transmutes stone, Mustang mostly does FIre, and Issac the Freezer does water. Anyways, super looking forward to seeing you experience this journey.

i like how she realized it was ONLY episode 2 and she was gettin messed up then went omg because she realize she has the rest of the whole series to prepare herself. also alchemy has do be done through a transmutation circle. the circles CAN however be fashioned on to objects like roy mustang has them on his gloves thats hows hes able to snap fire. its unnatural for people to be able to it without some form of a circle. thats why it catches people off guard. but as you continue your journey youll find out more! :D

Imo the music in the original is better (both good, I just prefer the og score) and it has a better paced first few episodes, but brotherhood is clearly superior in that it reaches the end and they can tie things in that weren't able to be in the og

FMAB moves very quickly in the beginning ( and flat out skips some stuff ) because it most likely assumes people have seen the 2003 anime, nothing of it is super duper important though and you can definitely just keep watching this version.

Og Fullmetal alchemist stays almost close to the Manga until the first enemy is killed then it no longer follows it Brotherhood goes fast up until the first enemies death then it starts to slow down while staying true to the manga, I believe it's around episode 12 to 15 were it's pacing slows down.

I do think the old series did the early seasons better (ESPECIALLY character introductions and The Backstory), but the endgame of brotherhood is absolutely S Tier.

It's still slightly too low volume. I know you're struggling with copyright, but your voice is deafening by the time I can hear the show.

Can you fix your audio? Love to watch your reactions but you're too loud compared to the video. I turn the video volume really high so I can hear the clip but when you make a comment your voice blows out my eardrums (if I'm wearing headphones) or sounds like I have speakers connected. I honestly really love seeing your reaction videos to these great anime's but the differentiating volume is quite the nuisance which has started to make me wish you talked less even though I want to hear what you have to say. Just a friendly piece of advice I'm not trying to seem rude

AniMelon, Brotherhood is the full anime based off the original source material. But in 2003 they the original released the "Fullmetal Alchemist" anime that contained 54 or so episodes with an original story and ending in the form of a film. Please react to it either after Brotherhood, or in your own time.

Oh this Episode forshadows a loooot of Charakters. You will love the Father and Teacher. While I found the start a bit slow, like I said before, the Backstory of the two Brothers is verry very good. The Confrontation whit the Beeing called Truth was so fascinating. Most Fans just call it a God named Truth, but get outa here, its much more then just that, calling it just a generic Deity is a disservice. I like seeing it, not a Spoiler dont worry, more as manifestation of the Universe, as part of its Rules but no truely all Powerfull Thing. Oh and Alfonse shaking and frantingly Appologizing, that hit home, such phantastic Voicework, and the Scene felt so real.

The difference in the vanilla series and Brotherhood is pasing I would say, the vanilla series takes its time more and Brotherhood expects you to have already watched the vanilla series. Brotherhood is still far superior, and I find myself recommending the series to anyone who asks what I like in anime... It's ranked as number one for many for a reason

Great reaction! I wouldn’t sleep on the original series. Yea, brotherhood is better, but not by much. The original tells and flushes out the early story much better. It’s not a knock on brotherhood, its just that since the original told the story already in detail they can skim pass it and up the pace. When the original catches up to the manga and splits, it goes into an interesting direction. Definitely worth the watch. Even if its for the early stuff brotherhood skips over, a lot of emotion

People who told you to watch Brotherhood are idiots. First, you watch the Original, get some nice back story, then Brotherhood, and get the official story
