Buying a $10,000 hot hatch series, continuing with the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST. $10,000 CAD is $8,000 USD. Will the Ford Fiesta ST live up to its award winning pedigree? Did Jakub get the deal of the century on it at $10,000 CAD / $8,000 USD? Will Jakub's Fiesta ST be the better overall car versus Yuri's Fiat 500 Abarth?

Americans don't want tiny hatchbacks. They want shitty CVT crossovers, so that's what they're getting. Car enthusiasts are having to buy old stuff for now or go with other manufacturers like Kia and their lovely Forte GT. This is Capitalism. You don't get what you want, you get what makes the corporation the most money, and it blows.

Let's all do our part: call or write Ford US Customer Relationship Center and tell them what their American customers want. If we all contact them, maybe they'll realize it's a profitable business decision to bring the Mk8 Fiesta ST 6 spd manual transmission to the US/North American market. As an owner of a FiST, you have no idea how long I've been waiting for you guys to drive one of these. Few things: Yuri. I'm on Bilsteins right now and the ride quality is actually much better than stock. The stock suspension is actually wayyyyy overdampened and you start noticing it more over bad bumps or broken pavement. But the stock suspension does handle amazing without them, I'll give you that. Turning ESC all the way off does soften the brake trq just a little, but it's still there. Watching you guys do the visors knowing what was about to come next was like watching a car wreck before it happened.......Too soon?

Both of my sons have owned Fiesta STs, both in black, and they both loved them. My oldest son reluctantly sold his earlier this year. My younger son's 2014 ST is a little more worn out and needs some work. He just bought something new and the dealership didn't really want the ST, so that was our excuse. We are going to keep it and make it our hobby car. We will do minor upgrades, take it out when the weather is nice, and enjoy occasionally flogging it. There is a corner near us that is our "cliche corner", a right hand turn lane between two 80 km/hr roads, and the Fiesta can take it at surprisingly fast speeds. I remember Jeremy Clarkson saying that there were 5 spots on his drive to work for passing, but that he found a sixth when driving the ST. I'm looking forward to a bit of father/son/grandson bonding time working on and driving a car that we all really like. We will be tracking the progress and reviews of your upgrades to see if we want to try any of them.

I’ve had this as my daily for just about 2 years. Simply put, it is the best newish car for the money on sale today. The car has handled everything - carrying people, large items (like IKEA furniture or a large freezer), snow, rain, dirt, and of course carving backroads in a “spirited” fashion. No understeer whatsoever, it’s shocking how balanced this car is. I recently moved cross country in late January, and drove this with a massive Thule box on top, and the majority of my clothes/possessions inside (even the summer tires!). With Blizzaks it can handle anything up to 12” of unplowed snow before getting stuck, and FWD just fine in any US city. It’s 2700lbs, so as light as an MX5 or S2K, being just as fun with way more practicality. And the power is more than OK... it feels way quicker than 197HP and 0-60 in 6.5... I’ve thought about trading for a Focus RS, STI, or Evo X one day, but just can’t do it. Don’t believe the extra payments would be worth it. I’d recommend the FiST to anyone. They are awesome!

@tghidsgn

The reason I bought a regular Fiesta SE was that the Fiesta ST in the showroom had a sticker price of $29k (and it was the only one in my entire city of 300K people). When I asked the dealership "what the heck?" they said they never sell them because a Focus ST was only a few grand more. For comparison, the SE cost me $20K out the door. The states had it made because the standard features there made it quite a reasonable price, Canada not so much (unless you really, really wanted a Fiesta ST). Same thing with the Focus RS - they cost as much as an S4 and more than an STI/Golf R. Never understood Ford's thinking.

Also as a FiST owner myself, take out the little "Mounts" that the rear shelf floats on top of! One 10mm bolt on each side and then drop the floor on top of the spare! It'll sit mostly flush but with it low I've been able to have my hockey bag in it with no hassle since it's nice and low now. Extra points for the box test! Also I really HATE the failed Visor Test and have since I bought mine in '16. (Also the fact that she didn't even put her hazards on really shows how great of a driver she was; glad you two are safe!)

I've owned my Fiesta ST for 3 years now. I bought it with only 33 miles on it and have beat it every mile since. It's now up to just a shy over 35k miles and still strong as ever. I rallycross mine all over the country and often times I'll drive it to an event, race, then drive it back. Most events are 6+ hour drives for me but the Fiesta doesn't care. I go in, kick butt and drive home. I really, *really* love my Fiesta.

Get yourself a compact spare from another trim level Fiesta. They are available in aluminum and are lighter than the stock spare, and also let the trunk floor go all the way down. It will surprise you how much more usable it makes the trunk. They are typically $85, but can be much cheaper if you find one at a local recycler. It seems like such a small thing, but it was one of the most useful things I did with my Fiesta.

Hey Straight Pipes, regarding the terrible MyFordTouch infotainment system; I'm a '14 Fiesta ST owner (since new) and I swapped my MFT head unit for a Sync 3 head unit from a newer Fiesta. It's plug and play, you can even get GPS if the donor car was equipped with it. The only thing I was unable to get working is Android Auto/Carplay, but steering wheel controls, voice function, everything else works mint. I was able to get my Sync 3 head unit from LKQ for $135 USD, and takes about 10 min to swap, just need a Torx bit screwdriver. Congrats on picking up this gem, enjoy it!

Sport mode lets you have more wheel slip and traction loss etc before it kicks in, and it's overall less aggressive. Holding it in for ESC off turns it off. Torque vectoring (which uses the brakes) is always on unless you do some real messing with the car. I'd only worry about turning that off if you get a limited slip differential put in. Welcome to the club. I have an Orange Spice, with the recaros and sadly a sunroof (it was almost perfect; but it was on the lot and I wasn't THAT picky). It's such a riot. The Fiesta ST honestly is the only car that had me consider trading my Sentra SE-R Spec V for at the time. It's just a really fun car that constantly makes me smile when I see them and whenever I've driven one. If it weren't for the fact that I started working from home last year and needed to trim down my fleet of 2 cars and a truck to just a truck. I would definitely have bought one. I drove a couple new and a couple with a few thousand miles on them and it was one of few recently released cars that didn't change with age. Some cars like my ''dream'' car (99-01 or 03-04 SVT Cobra) were amazing back when they were new. But, after about 4-6 years they honestly didn't live up to expectations when they were affordable enough for the average buyer at the time. I know this because I had a deal back in '08 lined up for a '04 Cobra that I found while graduating training for the Army thinking that was THE car to have. Got to the dealership on the way home...test drove it (never knowing anyone that would let me drive one at the time) and ended up actually disliking it a lot...from the shit interior to the choppy ride and the fact that the car with only 22,000 miles rattled like a mid 80's S10.

I used to have a manual 2015 Honda fit EX for an year and a half! I can't say about the reliability (Got it at 72K miles), engine blew a rod when driving it but it was already going when I first brought it... Long story about that. But yea, not really a fast car in a straight line but it can haul it over the corners quite well! Even did put a intake and an exhaust on it for a bit more power and I really loved it! Sadly on 6/21/2021 I got T-boned and flipped over by a red light runner in my car that *CLEARLY* shows she had a red light for some time and I had a fresh green light. Both cars was a total loss... Another reason why investing money for some decent dashcams are very important. For the police report, apparently she had a green light as well and that's why she ran the red light. There was no follow up after her report. She didn't get tested or anything but I had to sit in the hospital for my (Minor) injuries. People are fucking dumb.
