I totally spaced mentioning private land! Landing on private land with prior permission is always good, state laws vary whether you need written consent or if just a verbal “go for it” is enough. To be safe if you can get it in a note or email then you should be good 🤘

State, county, and town laws and zoning regulations come into play on private land, too, even if the landowner is willing.

Hi Trent, I am Ron Palmer, instrument rated and owned a Lance T tail with DME and auto pilot. Flew to the Bahamas, Key West, Kennedy in New York and Leadville Colorado. Loved flying with you, a different kind of flying. I’m 83 and can’t pass physical anymore but enjoy RU-vid flying with flyers like you. Thanks

@@patrickk1966 I was 54 years old and I wanted to be a pilot so I took my grandson to a boy scout jamboree in St Petersburg Florida. It was next to the airport, so I said, do you want to go flying. We ran across the activer runway, probably excited the controllers in the tower ( it was a small FBO). 6 weeks later I was a private pilot. A year later I needed my instrument rating so I hired a company that guaranteed the instrument rating in 10 days. So I hired the instructor who came with a flight simulator, I had to put him up in a motel for 10 days. I took the FAA examination and practical test and passed in 10 days. I was a mechanical contractor in Florida and earned enough money to buy a plane. My wife and daughter liked the Lance as it was very safe and was like a Lemo. I bought it, it also had DME (distance measuring equipment) a computer on board that allowed me to fly IFR direct plus the auto pilot would even shoot approaches. It was quiet, I used one earpiece and it was awesome. The plane was 10 years old and I only paid $60k cash for it. No leather but that gave me more weight to carry. I flew for 10 years all over the East coast, Bahamas, Key West to New York, New Orleans, Colorado and took a mountain flying course at Lead Ville Colorado. Good to know you. Thanks for your reply.

@@AV8R_1 That is the "rabbit hole" I am in now. The FAA yanked my medical for something that occurred 12 years ago. Now I cannot even get a LSA special issuance. They "nicely" said for me to go away and never contact them again. I was actively researching buying a plane ... so I should be happy they just saved me thousands of dollars. However ....

Yep, everyone ruined off-roading here in central MA. In the 70's and 80's, and into the 90's, everyone had dirt bikes or ATVs and rode every weekend. Now it seems any time you go out it's a police chase.The sport has been destroyed by the state - I rarely see anyone out anymore. They made it illegal for anyone under 10 to ride, supervised or not, so that killed it in less than one generation. 14 and under needs direct supervision. They used a few youth accidents, just like the current media machine is doing with guns, to flip the narrative and convince everyone that kids were dying left and right because of ATVs, and "laws needed to be passed". Sound familiar? Then they extorted insurance companies to get on board ... so if the adjuster drives by your house and sees a youth ATV there, they'l cancel your policy if you don't get rid of it. Just like communism. Never thought I'd see the day ... I sold my ATV a couple years ago and bought a paramotor. If I'm near crybabies I can at least climb to lower the noise level.

If I ever became I pilot, I would fly with Trent and is friends any day. Not because of the cool places or awesome things they go and do, but because they are safety conscious. I LOVED how Trent gave his friend props for aborting the take off roll when it didn't feel right, how Trent is always looking for a place to set down if things go bad. Constantly checking his surroundings and keeping good communication with other planes in the air. Always maintaining good separation and being the guy that is safe yet still knows how to have fun. Trent, I would be PROUD to have you on my wing!

Up here in Canada we have a lot of untouched land and beautiful places to see and taking to the skies opens up a whole different way of enjoying it.

DeLorme state topo/recreation map books are aimed at the auto folks. The do have land use indentification, including BLM IIRC, which could be useful when flying over new territory. 11 X 15 inch size is unhandy in a car and would be doubly so in a small plane. Fine detail on roads would be useful mostly in the West. AZ Hoss

When I looked into this, legality was one issue, but insurance was a deal breaker. It's easy to put $100k into a bush plane, and insurance companies don't like to hear that you're going to be landing off airport.If you don't own your aircraft outright, the lien holder may have a say as well. If you have the cash to own it outright and can afford to self insure, then you have fewer issues.
@crnmedic
@crnmedic 3 года назад
I remember a CFI telling me once if you have to land emergently because of an engine failure, the plane is expendable. It has already let you down and just use every bit of it to get yourself safely stopped on the ground. Don't worry about being able to reuse the plane, that is what insurance is for.

Check out the 4 place Super Cub. There also many others out there such as the Helio Courier, Sherpa, etc.
