Her three "I know you"s at the end are absolute perfection. First, a question. Then, the realization that there's someone else out there like her and the excitement that comes with it. And finally, it sets in and the reality of many aspects of her life that will suffer around this realization...it's truly remarkable and so perfect for the slightly more mature "little Alison" that she plays, compared to Gabby who I lovingly refer to as "Baby Alison" lol 😊
This is a fine actress...I have not seen this kind of advanced maturity is a child actor since Dakota Fanning was young. I think Syndey was robbed her Tony but with performances like this I'm pretty sure she will have another opportunities--and the exposure for Fun Home will open MANY doors for her for stage and film.
+loveya718 Oh, hey..Andrea McArdle didn't win the Tony for Annie when she was nominated. However, Sydney's was a FAR more nuanced and mature performance. She deserved that damn thing.
The tears just well up in my eyes when I hear her sing this song. The ring of keys unlocking parts of herself she doesn’t even fully understand yet. The admiration and happiness which take on a weight and sadness as she places this identification into a broader world context. When she says “I know you” she means she knows herself a little more and is both exhilarated and frightened.
