would you ever consider grabbing all the behringer semi modulars and comparing them to their moog counterparts. In this case the closest comparison id like the see is the behri neutron vs the mavis especially because theyre one of the few hitting the same budget. Its not really the comparison that would be the best part but the inspiration of hearing the sounds YOU can get out of them.
@@floodgates1219 I'd say yeah, I don't own one so this is not firsthand knowledge but from what Andrew showed its a solid package that will let you explore tonality and patching quite a bit. The first limit you will run up against is the included cables so be prepared to buy yourself more patch and splitter cables and those awesome cables that have a second female right on top of the male ts that I can never seem to find. I have a Behringer Neutron that is a pretty similar box, and its nice to explore with but if you have a couple guitar pedals to add to the mix you expand your possibilities by an order of magnitude. Also Ableton Live lets me route my push2 midi into it via USB (so I've even got the best possible sequencer and an awesome interface) which the Mavis does not have. You seem to just want to explore sounds just like me but its an important note to make, unless you have a eurorack sequencer you are going to have to trigger every note yourself. The Mavis is probably the best value Moog I've seen but you gotta remember they really are a premium brand, I would do a lot of shopping around before deciding on it. But in general, these semi-modular standalone synths are the perfect gateway into synthesizers, find whats right for you and make sure you actually have a way to play them (midi keyboard, or the USB route etc.) Personally I think you'd be really happy with it but over time you will start to wish you had more, and then you become a fellow modular addict😂
1:41 y’know, if anyone would unintentionally synthesize lifelike bubble sounds by complete accident, it would be Andrew. Seriously that belongs in like a sample pack or something.
Andrew, you are such an inspiration! Love to see you having fun while making music, through different genres and styles... it's almost poetic the way you marvel at the beauty of sounds! Personally, playing with sounds like that is something that amazes me and makes me feel like a child everytime. When I watch your videos and I listen to your music I find that exact feeling and an exstraordinary energy. I've learnt a lot from you, but that inspiration and that energy are the things I am most grateful for. I still remember the first "musical challenges" on your channel... and now wow, you have a child, you've grown so much, and at the same time, well, "nothing" changed. I never comment, I'm a bit shy, but I really wanted to show you my appreciation. Thank you for everything!

Andrew, I’m here to thank you. I recently got accepted into music production college and I think you served a big part in that. Back in 2017/2018, when I just got started, you gave me good tips and tricks that still work nowadays. And not to mention that you have really inspired me to evolve from who I was. Holy crap Andrew, I LOVE that idea to use 32 steps on one sound and 55 on another to get a semi-repetitious jam going. Also your tone selection is wow 🤩 Really excited to get a Mavis for myself!
I recently bought one , and I really like it. I have used VSTs and Roland synthesizers, but this really gives you a chance to explore the world of modular subtractive synthesis without spending a lot of money. The magic really starts when you begin to add delay and reverb.
Thanks for making a really good demo of this synth. I was having a hard time finding something that wasn't just the basic waveform being displayed. It's nice to see it in context and fully utilized in actual music production. I'm sold.
The current tracks you're working on have a deep space vibe that remind me of some great Space Dimension Controller releases. Like maybe his best known - 'The Love Quadrant', and one of my favourites 'Kaleidoscopic Ecstasy' from the Temporary Thrillz EP (R&S records, 2010).

Yeah I’m definitely getting one. I wasn’t hyped for the new 404, don’t care for elektron, wasn’t impressed with the new volca. But a Moog for less than 400 bucks???
Man I wish i could keep as clean a studio as u. My bedroom is my studio cuz ive only got one computer so I have to climb over mic stands, guitars and desk chairs just to get to my synth lol. on top of that my fiance lives in the very same room 🥲
Lowest common multiple of 32 and 55 is 1760, which is 32 x 55. SOOO the 32 sequence would have to play 55 times, and at that point the 55 would have played 32 times.
With that melody (described during the patch breakdown) how might you do something similar in Ableton? I understand the concept, but I'm not sure if there's a way to replicate it without using analogue gear.
I wouldn't be surprised if the modding community comes up with a circuit mod to address the fold and filter input issue you mentioned. Maybe... I'd have to think on the routing more lol
I agree :) Some of these songs have been in the works for at least 3.5 years though, so it'll probably still be a while before they're released (these songs first appeared in Andrew Huang's video "Space funk jams IN MY BRAND NEW STUDIO!!")

People like you are the reason I have a modular synth addication. I just bought an intelejel case and can't wait to fill it with joy and chaos! The Mavis looks pretty sweet self-contained synth that plays well with others.
I think I need to adress the elephant in the room: why the hell did they decide to put the patch bay on the left side instead of the right? It doesn't seem to make any sense, since SH, M32 and DFAM all have it on the right.
My gripe with the Mavis is 100% to do with the keyboard. It's too fiddly to really be all that useful and without an octave select that is made even worse. What I'd like to see is a version of the Mavis COMPLETELY OMITTING the keyboard altogether, in a smaller HP format because as-is I feel like it takes up too much HP to be racked in a case unless you just so happen to have room to spare. Also, the keyboard would only be useful in cases that lay flat. Vertical mount? Yeah, that keyboard is practically useless. If Moog would release a version without the keyboard, in a smaller form factor, I'd seriously consider adding it to the collection.
