As a fellow Yucatecan, I agree with your statement, lately there has been a surge in pride and a bit of a independence movement. It's quit small and not well known but now days if you go downtown you will see a lot of Yucatecan flags all over the place, something that 5 or 10 years ago was very rare. Anyhow, we actually became a independent nation twice, not once. Thank you for sharing my state flag and history not a lot of people know about Yucatan, which is sad, because it is a very beautiful and safe part of Mexico. Also I have my own Yucatecan flag. ❤️

@Vinter927
@Vinter927 4 года назад
@@chiapasmexico9749 a ver...

Big respect for galicia and their people and history, coming from your Celtic brothers in ireland
@albmaralb
@albmaralb 4 года назад
Actually, more than half of Spain (and Europe) has the same Celtic roots as Galicians. The idea that Galicia or Asturias are somehow "Celtic nations" comes from the romantic period and the popularity of the modern Celtic music, but it is historically wrong when put into context. Remember that Celts came from central Europe (nowadays Austria and south Germany) and extended across Europe including most of Spain. No Celtic language survives in Galicia, like in any other part of Spain, and the only connection to its Celtic roots are popular traditions and celebrations, like in many other regions of Spain: Cantabria, Castilla y León, etc. It is true though that there have been migrations between the north of Spain (including Galicia) and Ireland, which makes their people genetically closer, although not in a special "Celtic way". In any case, I also have great respect not only for Galicia, but the people and history of Ireland (where Celtic languages do survive).

Just a note from Croatia. Dubrovnik generally isn't considered to be in Dalmatia. The entire exclave area is considered to be a separate distinct historical region.

*Cries in Central American* I though we were gonna see the Confederación Centroamericana, it was so important to our history that most of the Central American flags are clearly inspired by the one of the Confederación Centroamericana, that's why Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua flags are SO similar... Costa Rica has some similarities but the red makes it very distinct

If you haven't already done a show on the following, it could be interesting. Flags of countries that are yet to be. Several areas have contemplated severing ties with their country and becoming their own nation. As an example, there has been a longterm movement to separate the area of the former Kingdom of Naples/Two Sicilies and re-establish it as a separate nation. The organized movement has several options for flags - 4 I think the last time I checked. Each combines different elements from previous flags depending on the form of the new government - if the House of Borboni is restored the flag will have their familial Arms; if a confederation it may be a combination of the flag of Sicily (which, with the triskeles, is similar to that of the Isle of Man) and the flag of Naples, etc. Probably could do a whole show just on that one topic since the centuries of flags used by the kingdoms involved are plenty.

Yucatan independance and Texas Independance were almost at the same time... actually the first vicepresident of te republic of texas was Lorenzo de Zavala, a Yucatecan politician... Now we are Mexicans again, and we are proud of it... but we still keeping this flag (the old Yucatan republic) as a symbol of identity and proud. Every star represents to the most important places in the territory in that time: Merida (Actual Capital city), Campeche (The actual capital city of Campeche state), Valladolid, Tekax and Izamal.

Galicia as an independent kingdom existed only shortly during the Middle Ages. It existed until 1833 but as an administrative division of the Kingdom of Spain (or Castille only), when the title "kingdom" was retired from all regions.

There's also Biafra, a short-lived independent state that tried to secede from Nigeria but lost the ensuing war. Biafra's national flag was a red-black-green horizontal tricolor with a yellow symbol in the middle. And as an American, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the Lone Star flag of Texas.

4:50 So Gagauzia is actually Turks believe in Christianity and they didn't even exist as a litteral country. They were ethnic group for lots of centuries. And their wolf symbolize the Turkic nations and their favorite animal wolf for some reason. And they tried to symbolize that they are Turk but not Muslim because Islam was a really late discovery for Turks and they learned Islam in the time of Gokturks (a really big turkic empire thingy) so it was like that. And ethnic group of Gagauzia is actually i think that they were some people from the time of Gokturks. That they didn't accepted the religion and traveled around the world until they became a part of Moldova. This is my theory from the source that i remember watching a video about it. Edit: Sorry they actually was a independent country from the time of Soviet collapse.

Galicia's mysterious symbol is a ciborium which in the Catholic Mass holds the hosts for the communion of the people. It could easily be a symbol of the unity of the nation in their faith which would pair nicely with the cross of St. James

Funny thing, I live in the US., but was born in Moldova. I was 9 years old when I moved to the US with my parents but remember everything and went back at the age of 14, and 26, so my memory is great. My mother is a Gagauzka, and she is from the village of Beshgioz. I've seen the flag flown in her village and it looks nothing like these 2 that were shown in this show. The flag actually resembles an old soviet style Gerb with the wheat on left and right side , and the flag itself was red, green, and red horizontal striped. Maybe this is a new flag that is part of Moldova now that Moldova is trying to be part of the EU, they dont want any ties to old comunist styled flags. The Gagauz people consider themselves russians, and not moldovians, even when their Gagauz ancestry and language is 75% Turkish. My mom told me that Gagauz was a word the Turks used for Muslim people who turned Christian and stayed in Russia when the ottoman Turks were deleted by the Russian empire around 250 to 300 years ago. She told me the word Gagauz means " THE ONES WHO REGECTED ALLAH" a name given to them by the Muslim turks who left that region and stayed with the ottomans. Its so awesome to see such a small, insignificant place in the world be mentioned on your show. Thank you
