What is FIRExTalk?
The FirexTalk one-day firefighter conference is designed to help fire service communities, organizations and individuals spark conversation and connection through a local TEDx-like experience. At a FIRExTalk event, twenty 20 minute “talks on fire” are given by local presenters. Each presentation is professionally video recorded and placed on the FIRExTalk RU-vid channel and website. This sparks conversation and connection at the local and national level. FIRExTalk events are planned and coordinated by FIRExTalk llc.
Michael Snodgrass has served the Gresham Fire Department for 21 years. He is currently a lieutenant at station 71. Michael served as a wildland firefighter with CalFire for three years in Riverside County, CA before being hired by Gresham. He is a member of the Gresham Fire US&R team, Technical Rescue Team, and First Whip FOOLS. Michael started Aggressivefirefighter.com as an out
let for his passion for firefighting. He knows training is the keystone to being a strong firefighter.

I was in a class with Mr. Micheal Snodgrass at the National fire academy located in Emmetsburg Maryland, while this guy is always clowning around and having fun, he knows what he is saying, I am an Aircraft rescue Firefighter but I was honored to be in that class with Micheal and in 5 days he thought a lot, so thank you very much, Micheal, for all you have thought me, what an outstanding guy he is

I am glad you pounded the point of "putting the water on the fire"! Being a retired firefighter (captain), I often get so irritated watching You Tube, because of fire departments post-arrival wasting unbelievable time dicking around with dry lines setting on ground while firefighters run around (without direction) or, deciding (with heavy smoke fire upon arrival), to take another 3-5 minutes frantically trying to get SCBAs donned (air-pack, mask, hood, helmet, gloves, flashlights etc.), and oh yeah, having to run back to apparatus because forgot forcible entry/VS/S&R/TIC/etc. tools. While either dry or charged lines lay on ground advancements untouched. Of course now a structure fire that possibly could have been checked and stopped has now evolved to a defensive fire. Now it's defensive lets put water on the fire. This drives make me in sane! Thank you! Allen P Retired Firefighter (Captain)

I watch the Sacramento fire clips, then watch the others. Sacramento rarely has a working fire for more then 15-30 min. 1 engine stays for a couple hours of overhaul. The others are totally defensive because they did not get water on the fire in that first 5 minutes, as a result they are there the rest of the day. Sacramento does put water in a window if they need to as well.

I'm a CERT member training for my FF support level. Though I'll never hold a hose or enter a structure, these talks are helping me understand the team I'm here to support. Many thanks!
