Saludos desde Chile, Siempre se me siento feliz y orgullosa de ver a los Colombianos en campeonatos internacionales. Y lo mejor aún cuando se llevan los primeros Lugares.
Rumba a very rhythmic....The Cuban Rumba beat is influenced by the Spanish Flamenco style...Then again so is the Salsa rhythm, que maravilla mla fusion de ritmos e influencias africanas con espanolas....viva la musica.
Hell Yes! Agree 100% percent. Anything too ethnic has to be watered down to fit the Anglo tradition of what is acceptable dancing. It's just sad, that it becomes mainstream.
@dancingman71...the description that you quote is perfectly fine; not all of us mortals know as much as you about this kind of dancing. This video was made for the people that don`t know how to dance and want to learn...... another thing....Rumba it NOT ONLY means to have a party. All that you wrote it`s what we called COMENTARIO TOTALMENTE EN VANO
@MrWildbill20056: Perfectly put. I am a Latin Ballroom dancer, love it, but also recognize our form of dancing is far removed from its origin. For me ballroom dancing is most beautiful but it does not make it better than its origin or any other form of dancing. It's a matter of taste and culture. As dancers we respect all forms of dancing. By doing so it not only make you a better dancer but most important a better person.
yes. you are right. I know both, and i think of the original as it rightly is, just "Rumba" and the partner dance most of know as an alternating two step of sorts with the "long" step a drag step, accentuated longer, as "Ballroom Rumba". In Rueda Salsa, done in a circle, we do/learn the original rumba move, traveling towards our next partner as we do it. It's used as a partner change. and we try to use our body in the afro-cuban style.
the mambo and rumba were dances that were developed in cuba drawing on influences from elsewhere.what you see is the original rumba. ballroom rumba is influenced by another cuban dance called'son'-examlpes of which can be seen here on youtube.
LOL...no doubt. I remember watching So You Think You Can Dance a couple of seasons ago, and Alex D. had to teach them a Cuban Rumba...he asked if they had ever danced this, and they said "Yeah...it's like the Waltz, right?" BOY....he let them have it!! LOL! No street dancing is close to ballroom, period! Don't get me wrong, I have mad respect for ballroom dancers, they're true artists, but street dancing...ETHNIC street dancing is a nother story! It's natural, it flows, it's pure,it's our roots!
Cuban Mambo is the mother of the Puerto Rican Salsa. The Puerto Rican Had stolen the Cuban Mambo in late 1950's in Union square Subway station. I heard them every time I went to 14th street, New York City in those days. George Wu, AIA 2012-4-17
Learned dancing from my Abuela - and this makes it just as simple as she did. Because I live in "Gringo-Land" I have gotten rusty. And my brain is having problems understanding the difference between the Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, and the Mereinque. Do these awesome (y simpatico) dancers have a DVD which covers the three? Trying to get to my raizes. @MadelineHere
when it comes to dance there is cuba and then there is the rest of the world.here are some of the dances that were developed in cuba-son,danzon,rumba,mambo,chachacha,mozambique, pilon, templeque, changui, zapateo, casino, casino rueda. check out 'casino rueda china'(youtube) to see the chinese team from shanghai led by david huo compete at munich recently.
This is absolutely true. Us, north americans, took styles from south america and changed it instead of adapting ourselves to it. The ballroom rumba is so far from the TRUE rumba from Cuba. Sorry about that friends from south america. :)
this was very cool - why's everybody all pissed & trying to compare Cuban Rumba to Ballroom Rumba? for that matter, has anyone even considered Gypsy Rumba as well? Whatev, Janet's adorable and I love how she says 'two' when she's counting it out... lol
But hesitation is the entire beauty in a Latin dance! That is the most beautiful part in Rumba I noticed on a woman dancer years ago. Hesitation, without it , it is boring ! To be able yo dance the hesitation, the dancer has to dance 2341; not 1234 as the Salsa are ! This is my research after years of analyzing the beautiful Latin dance, the Cuban Rumba! So many narrow-minded comments here. I bet the guys that commented Cuban Rumba as "rude", "not sophisticated" and whatnot have absolutely no idea about it. So typical, the thing that you cannot or won't do is wrong. Well it isn't. Try it. Get in touch with music and culture and history behind it. True dance has nothing to do with sport, it's about you, your partner and the music.
It is helpful if you can read..... In the descripion you can find "Authentic Cuban Rumba basics (NOT BALLROOM) " This kind of dance is much older than the ballroom one. "Rumba" means in spanish only to have a party....
Your point is valid. The people in England have successfully set themselves up as the authorities and marketed their altered versions of rumba, samba and tango as "International" and have hooked in millions of people world-wide to follow their word as that of God. They also hijacked swing, changed it and turned it into International Jive. It will take a major effort to ever break that down. (by the way, I think you mean "rhythms", not "rythmes").
I am a ballroom dancer and I know the history of all the dances and where they originated. So don't let one person speak for all us ballroom dancers because most are taught from the beginning of their ballroom dance training about where each dance originated from. Most people who claim to be "ballroom dancers" are either amateurs and don't know what they are talking about anyways or they just want to start an argument so ignore them.
@saraa49 Actually this is Rumba and not salsa. Salsa's main roots come from Rumba..the dance movements and music. That's why some of the moves look like salsa because it comes from Rumba dances styles guaguanco, columbia, and yambu.
Wow it never ceases to amaze me at the insane things people say I was only responding info on RU-vid ,non-black and blacks in Cuba either migrated there or were bought as slaves so what are you talking about. That means they bought there culture with them. The real inhabitants are the indigenous people .Beside I can do this anyway I enjoy there showcase.
@MrWildbill20056 Have you ever thought of writing as well as composing the Jazz music as your career? The writings were beatifully written. Think about it. George Wu, AIA 2011-8-10
@MrWildbill20056 I stopped writing in the middle of my reply to you, thinking of what my Indian physician friend who is also a Ballroom lover gave me a good advice years ago,He said, "Never argue." I guessed I have forgotten his wonderful advice for a long time. Good -bye and thank you for your time. George Wu, AIA 2011-8-10
If you want to get chicks you need to do this ever time you're at a Latin club or any club, the ladies will love it trust me! if very rare to see this in a club.
The Europeans adopted the name Rumba but improved the dance with the Ballet sophistication; when the Puerto Ricans stole from the Cuban Mambo and somone in RU-vid had claimed that the Puerto Ricans had invented Salsa ! Therefore a D.J. in a dance always announced both Mambo(Cuban) and Salsa( Puerto Rican) for the same song every time, because there was no difference ! But to me, there is a big difference : I do 2341, the Cuban way as the Puerto Ricans doing 1234 instead. George Wu,AIA 2012-4-17
@MrWildbill20056 I remembered a few years ago, there were several loud voices here in RU-vid claimed that They invented the Salsa. And there was a gentleman,I presumed that was you trying to convince me not to learn from the world's best Latin dancer Slavik from Ukraine. But can you explain why the Europeans did not changed the name but just improved the dance with the Ballet techniques; as the PR took the credit from the Cubans and claimed that they invented the dance?!
buena leccion pa todos pero yo prefiero que la gente ponga su propio estilo. pero es cierto....para competir..hay que saber esta onda..... pero prefiero que la gente eche su propio sabor....saluuuuuu
@IrishBachataGirl Once you have seen the world champions Yulia, A Russian representing the U.S.A.,and the past champion Joanna ( A Danish representing Poland and a former partner of the world's best Latin male dancer Slavik), (Blackpool Latin in RU-vid), you would love their ballet background and have introduced the romantic movements into their performance, and you would keep on coming back and want to learn the secrets of how they could do them so beautifully !
