This is amazing! If I was told in 1995 that I could watch allen huston talk directly at me and teach me how to shoot the basketball I'd piss my pants. Great content! MAny kids that grew up years ago just played ball without coaching, making all the possible mistakes and getting unnecesarily injured. Nowadays you can do it right, all you need is an internet connection and you are on your way to try and make your dreams come true. We live in a great world and should appreciate it.
You love to see it, definitely the bright face of our ever-improving world, especially compared to the past.Things being WAY better than what is generally thought. Evident luxury. Shutting up the doomsayers worse than Houston (who was pure luxury to have on the court) did back in his career. The guy was a certified premier player besides being a kind class act already; no wonder they called him, definitely the best choice.
I wish i would’ve learned fundamentals the proper way and not just learning off the fly because sometimes I think to my self “was I shooting wrong this whole time?” Either way I still developed a silky shot as I got older it just makes me think how Much better I would’ve gotten if I stayed playing for the basketball league at my local park during my early teenage years
This dude was one of best pure shooters of his era, and of all time, He has great shot mechanics. Aspiring players should study him for his mechanics and efficiency,no wasted motion, pure genius, absolute genius.
I’ve been playing basketball for 6 years now and I’m still watching stuff like this like how to shoot how to dribble I like to go back and review and look at my mistakes and the things I probably forgot
Bro take it from me that this is the best tutorial I used to be worse than half of the kids at my school and had dreams I looked at many videos but this one is by far a the most helpful one and now I’m in d 1 and I’m only in 7th grade my height isn’t that great but I’m a late bloomer I’m only 5”4 but I am younger than almost everybody too so yeah
Honestly, you don’t really need to have your feet set to the basket. Look at Curry, Lillard, Harden, PG13, Kyrie etc. They all have their feet slightly tilted, and it also releases tension on your shoulders.
No this dude is a legend everywhere,, especially for FANS in the know. Sweetest jump shot on the planet. i hated to see him and Dell, Reggie, Ray, Mark Price caused they lit scoreboard up every time.
1 a good channel useful tips I advise everyone to work out a throw at speed because a throw from a place and a throw at speed are different in the game it affects 2 can someone tell me how often it is necessary to wash the ball after playing on the street and whether it should be done ?
How do you do the Cookie Jar finger release please i got all the jumpshot mechanics down and i shoot with a split release but i don’t understand how to do the cookie jar could you please explain how to do the cookie jar or how to train it
@@bickyross6790 Yea i got it down and ik how to shoot perfectly now with the correct form, it took some a lot of time, video watch and some help from some people from my gym who know how to shoot to help me but i got it all down now thanks
Something I find odd (maybe because of my own issues) is that none of the shooting instruction videos straight up say that you should shoot along the line of the right shoulder (if right handed). What I mean is, I have always shot since I was a kid to shoot the ball directly along the centerline of my body (so if I stopped it as I came up the ball would be directly between my face and the rim) because I always thought that I should be looking inline with the shot so that it was more accurate. I didn't learn until recently that you're aiming from off your left shoulder. I guess everyone just assumes that is known but I'm an example of why you should straight up say it.
I still don't really understand this. I can't get power into my shot using this form. My previous form could at least get bricks, this I keep getting airs, even near the basket
This form is so outdated please don’t mimic this form. This dude is way too squared up. If you look at any decent shooter in the nba, they all turn a substantial amount while getting set and shooting. Curry for example land almost 90 degrees from the basket on almost every shot. The rotation helps alignment and gives more range in your shot. You also should be dipping the ball and not releasing it where ever you catch it. This gives you range and removes tension.
Allan Houston is a better shooter than Steph Curry. Steph Curry gets alot of screens. Allan Houston did not need them and could create his own shot easier. Allan Houston's shot is very quick like Jerry West's and he can make it from any part of the court as could Oscar Robertson and Jerry West. Hardly any NBA player is very good at shooting from everywhere. Its very rare.
I’ve been trying to figure out what finger release i should have. Both middle finger and split work but since I don’t know what to use my shot gets inconsistent. I usually load the ball by my right quad since I’m right handed. I have a straight shot line starts from quad up to my right eye etc. I’ve had a tough time with this for a while and i feel that my shot is not progressing because of it. What should I use?
came here because i just cant seem to throw the ball properly. i always end up pushing the ball with my guide hand. i don't have the issue with hitting my shots, i usually hit most of them. it just doesn't feel right.
I hit 4 (24 hour fitness) 3’s in a row after watching this video and couldn’t really shoot at all before. Even the ones I missed looked way more accurate. Watched the video in my car before the gym practiced for 30mins and played. Thanks!
I’m a total beginner was making maybe 2 of 10 free throws. Simply watching this excellent video and practicing the shooting form increased my free throw percent up to 50%
thank you! i am an adult and only ever played basketball as a kid in school pe and suddenly have been interested in playing, but never learned the basics!!! very helpful
@@dusk6159 Just like what happened to Penny, the knees problems cut their careers short. Ironically both were from the same NBA draft class back in 1993.
He’s a great teacher. Allan Houston was probably an excellent high school /college student given how meticulous he is with the details of good shooting form
It's a progress. I also had that experience, but as I practiced more (didn't watch this video before) I could shoot 3s better, but not that consistent morely 1-2 shoots consecutively before I miss.
Don't focus too much attention on your technique. Just shoot the ball. Shooting should be natural. Most great shooters don't have a perfect technique. They achieve success through repetition with the shot that makes them comfortable the most.
Don't aim at back of rim. You will miss more. Jerry West NBA Legend that was a great shooter says aim at front of rim. Usually ball can bounce off front and go in. Have a soft shot it will bounce in more. I could make mid range when open at 90 something % when I was 16/17. 3s at 70 something % and open. Highschool 3 arc range
