I want to point something out, given I'm from Prescott. Stop judging people for clapping. Many of us in Prescott personally knew at least one if the hotshots, so this was personal for us. Plus, if you'll notice, they didnt clap when the hearses went by. They only applauded the escorting first responders. Plus, this was the procession bringing the bodies back to Prescott, not the actual funeral procession. The memorial service didnt take place for almost a week after this, and the funerals themselves took even longer. So stop judging us in Prescott for not honoring our heroes and friends the way you feel we should. We honor them the way that feels right to us, and we will continue to do so regardless of what anyone says.
i am not a american but when i see how americans treat the brave makes me realize why america is the greatest country on the earth. RIP those who sacrifised themselves to save others.
I will never forget this day. My entire neighborhood went out and stood on the road taking them into town. The entire road which is very long was full of people showing love and support. I love this town and we honor them in many ways always. We will never forget them or their bravery. One was a dear family friend. This still brings tears to my eyes today. I wish all the families and survivor the best always.
They're not being disrespectful If you watched it they did not clap when the hearses went by, they clapped at the First responders, the police, the fire fighters to show them yes we share in your grief, we are proud to stand by you, to show our support to the families and their community. It's not inappropriate, just understand it.
I remember so clearly when this happened and although I did not personally know any of these dear and brave men, I was devastated as our family moved to Prescott in 75 and my mom still lives there. My brother suddenly passed away only a few days after this tragedy and we took the biggest flower arrangement from my brother's funeral and placed it with all the other 1000's of memorial objects and flowers outide the hotshot crew's headquarters. My brother would have wanted them honored. Such a sad, sad, period for Prescott and their families. My heart is still so full of sorrow for these fine young men but I'm so proud of how the town of Prescott honored these heroes. God Bless Forever Our Fallen and the great town of Prescott.
I couldn't avoid it when the hearses came through and began to cry. I was a fireman for 35 years, and my heart hurt watching this video. Yes, i knew those brave souls. Never met them, but i certainly knew all of them. May they all be with the Lord and rest in peace.
I honestly state, I could not stop criing, when I was watching movie about these 19 heroes, who fought the horrible fire and sacrificed for all people! The firefighters are one great family all around The Globe. I deeply bow down infront Your fellow firefighters and would like to pay tribute to Them and Their loved ones, who lost Them. I am the firefighter - voluntair in The Czech republic. No matter, where are firefighters comming from, We are allways united! Greetings from Czech republic to Arizona with respect and love, stay safe and be healthy! God may bless You! I love Arizona, I love You, brothers and sisters!
I was their that day to honor these brave men. Have a few great friend that are Forrest Service and wildland fire fighters. These are individuals with great bravery and heart.
Watching 19 limousines passing by make me feel So sad. I'm Firefighter in South Korea. Granite Moutain hotshots 19 heroes were always remembered for their Sacred Dedications and shining Devotions To their Community. Rest in Peace!! My Brothers.
They are my inspiration for why im going to enroll in a handcrew next year. And start from there. Im from California and the fires have been bad here. My family thinks im crazy for wanting to do this. But these men are inspirational and I want to feel the rush and joy they did.
These man where real hero's . These was a very emotional real life tragedy. I feel so sad for what happened to these brave man and feel sorry for their families . Specially their kids who are going to grow up without their father😢😔😪😓😰😭,so sorry you guys . Life is not fair sometimes. Writing this text with tears in my eyes 😢 .and for those who put their thumbs down ,I say shame on you 🤨☹️😤😡. All these brave man did is,they gave their lives to protect their town and their loved ones. Good bless the Hero's of Mount granite 💖💟💐. 19 brave man = 19 Hero's.
First off, it's called an 'Applause', which is a form or act of clapping, showing public and universal; expressing degrees of approval. The reasons for 'Applause (clapping) vary in the situation; as dictated. Extended applause at the conclusion of an event, usually but not always resulting in a standing ovation, implies approval above and beyond ordinary measure, and compels the dedicated firefighters to return in acknowledgement and at times proceed to an encore.
Exactly We only applaused the first responders driving by and stopped while the herses drove by and a lot of us did remove our hats and placed a hand over our hearts
Rip brothers and sisters who lost their lives your tour of duty is done we have it from here on out till we meet in heaven may the wind be at your back
I'm reading comments about the clapping... it was a big loss and I think everyone here is doing so out of honor and appreciation for what it takes do do that job. I think people clapping is showing how much they acknowledge the importance of the job. Just my opinion on it. On the other hand, I don't know why the emergency lights are on and no black ribbons on the apparatus. Here in Pittsburgh, all emergency lights are off, covered entirely with black cloth for funerals with black ribbons draped on the front and sides. This was more like a parade than a L.O.D.D. funeral.
Maybe I'm wrong and maybe I'm old school, but 19 young men lost their lives, is that a reason to clap. A solomn hand over the heart and hats removed would of shown more respect. I am a volunteer firefighter in a small New Hampshire town, and I just don't understand.
I understand your question. I live in an area where our wildfire season is from July -October and words cannot express what these amazing volunteers do to save our homes, land and way of life. They come in to our communities, literally save the day and roll out to the next priority fire in the country before we can really show our appreciation. The clapping was for the first responders and then, as you suggested, there was stark silence when the fallen heroes were passing. Such a tragedy.
Kathleen Loucks 1 second ago I watched the film 4 times in a row...why? Because of the character development. I never completely understood what Hot Shots did until seeing the film, Only The Brave, nor realized just how dangerous it is. I felt like I got to know this band of brothers a little, and wish so much I could actually know them. It's an EXCELLENT film and should have won Best Picture. Anyway...to the mother who didn't want the film made about her son...maybe in time, you'll be able to watch it, maybe never. Just know that most of the country would not know anything about what your son did, nor the others, had it not been for this film. Those nineteen guys were so special...all firefighters are and I am glad I know particularly about the Granite Mt Hot Shots! kl xoxooxoxxooxxo
Kathleen Loucks That movie isn't telling the truth about what actually happened. Look at documentation providing true information. You might be surprised 😔
This is not a town parade nor an event for the other firefighters as a recognition to them. This is a funeral in process for the loved ones of 19 firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty trying to protect others homes and the environment around them. The respectful and appropriate way to acknowledge their dedication is by paying tribute to them by either placing one hand on the chest or simply stand and give them and their loved ones moments of silence with peace and prosperity. You don't acknowledge your deceased loved ones by applause at their funeral. It's no different for the funeral of these brave men and their loved ones. This is not a situation where an ovation is in order. This is a situation where peace should have been in order.
lwray0311 They are just clapping their appreciation for the ones that made it back home, the ones that continue to protect others. Why does everyone get so offended at clapping? They never clapped at the hearses.
I recognize your viewpoint, but also understand that many of these people knew the hotshots personally, and this was a loss of firefighters from their hometown. If they thought it was appropriate to applaud (notice they didnt applaud when the hearses were going by) who are you to judge them?
Clapping at such things is now totally acceptable. When fallen bomb disposal service man was brought home ,after the military plane landed at a royal air force there was always a procession through Whootton Bassett. When that service mans hearse went along the road ,the person who started clapping was his widow, she wanted to recognise his courage and sacrifice .It was beautiful .
I know what it’s like having wife’s husbands leave for a day on a fire but I’ve never been around anything like this to the family of the granite mountain hotshots they are loved missed and always will be Rest In Peace bothers
These men died heroes I watched the movie not knowing the story behind it the ending had me in tears they died doing what they loved and protecting the people they love and there community..
I still cannot bring myself to watch the movie. I live in Prescott and was living here when it happened. My boss knew them all and says he will never be able to see the movie. Too close to home. Our store received a mounted pick axe but my boss stated he did not want to hang it up because the families shop our store.
I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was heading east on the 69 out of town and kept seeing Phoenix area Battalion chiefs and multiple city Fire Chiefs (Phoenix, Tempe, Avondale, Mesa, Glendale, Chandler etc etc etc) running code into Prescott. I had never seen that before so I knew some bad shit had went down somewhere in Prescott !!
They lost their lives in yarnel 48 miles west on the 89. Before you say no it wasn't. Trust me my friend i was the guy that transported them to the medical examiner's office... myself and three other reapers..one of the saddest days of my life
@@michaelcarleno2623 I know exactly where they died too So what's your point ?? What I posted was what I saw the day it was happening you were just transporting them afterwards. If you are one of the meat wagon drivers what direction did they take to the ME office?
They clap because that is the only way they have to try and show how much these mens lives mean to them. How much they are admired and appreciated....It is not a bad thing.
The caption said funeral procession not funeral parade that was not a parade. If you are at a funeral procession you do not stand there and clap. I don't think the living fireman would have like that either as they were there for their lost brothers not to be reconized in a funeral procession, nobody in that funeral procession felt like being praised at that moment.
10 Years Ago Today June 30th 2013 We Lost 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots And 10 Years Later I Want To Build A Memorial And Museum Called The National Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial And Museum
Does anyone know why the crowd is clapping in a rythem instead of like a crowd clapping? Is it a thing for firefighter processions to do this? Just curious.
Grandes héroes🙏 Acabo de ver la película, lloré lloré😢 Y busque todos los vídeos q hablan de ese día tan lamentable Ya este año son 8 años sin ellos, que duro para sus familias 😢😢
Is it purely culture difference? Why people are cheering up and clapping while there is supposed to be a funeral ongoing for their HEROS? I don't understand...Salute and mourn for the lost...
This technically wasn't the funeral. They were just bringing the bodies back to Prescott, and applauding the first responders who escorted them. The funeral was like a week later. Go actually watch that before judging
You obviously didnt finish the video when they stopped clapping when the men were being brought threw and so what of they clapped for the men who died. Of thats their way of honoring them then thats their way. Not everyone goes threw formal D&C training. The fact is they honored them.
I'm finishing up the film Only The Brave, there was absolutely nothing the applauders in this case is so disrespectful these amazing young men lost their lives,,, I don't get it...The Song Hold The Light will have you in tears...….
Actually no theyre not. Id rather have someone celebrate the life i lived and the things ive done then mourn the death of me. Those fire fighters saved Prescott.
Out of respect. They’re not glorifying death if thats what your thinking. They are honoring them and thanking them for being the ones to go in a do a job no one wants to do. I want to Yarnell in 2015. Made a pilgrimage before my first season of Wildland. Pay me respects. RIP 19.
Why is everyone judging those who comment on the clapping sound on here? I scroll through the comments and i read nothing about people judging on clapping.relax guys and gal's its ok.No body is judging yall
You obviously didnt finish the video and so what of they clapped for the men who died. Of thats their way of honoring them then thats their way. Not everyone goes threw formal D&C training. The fact is they honored them.
Because thats their way of honoring them okay jesus christ. The men sacrificed their lives to save their community. Shit when we lost a fire fighter last year we unvield his man number on the side of the station and everyone clapped. What are ALL suppose to be sad? Ill tell you what I'd rather have people celebrate the life i lived then mourn the death of me and if they clap as a way to honor menand celebrate the life i lived then fine by me.
They rolled out all this apparatus for them after they were murdered Why not use the the big planes to put that fire out ......they were too cheap to do the job right.......
It's not that simple for air tankers to just drop water they have to have communication to the wildland firefighters to get them to their target and also communications was chaos and radios were backed up and air tankers were dispatched but they were grounded so the only choice is sending hotshot crews dows the flames so yea the forestry service fucked up you know why commutation backed up
You obviously didnt finish the video and so what of they clapped for the men who died. Of thats their way of honoring them then thats their way. Not everyone goes threw formal D&C training. The fact is they honored them.
They didnt applaud when the hearses went by. And given this was personal for everyone there, maybe they thought this was right. Remember, this was just bringing the bodies from Phoenix to Prescott. Watch the actual memorial service before you start judging people
Because thats their way of honoring them okay jesus christ. The men sacrificed their lives to save their community. Shit when we lost a fire fighter last year we unvield his man number on the side of the station and everyone clapped. What are ALL suppose to be sad? Hind site is always 2020 and that guys pain the survivor is only bested by the family of his brothers but if i was him honestly if id of thought about my tribute to them would be to walk behind the prasession with full gear it would've sucked but at least i was alive and id be doing the death march along with them rest easy the mountain is cold thanks to your heat
I had just turned 16 when this happened. I remember everything so vividly. Knew 3 of them personally. I remember not knowing if I was going to be able to handle showing up to this but I knew I had too, despite my feelings. Rip 19.
I remember this entire tragedy like it was yesterday! I was off that week! My first fire coming to Prescott was the Docey Fire! Then came Yarnell! I was off that week then received a phone call From a CBS reporter out of Phoenix asking me if it was true! While he spoke I was checking my email! My world dropped! I did not know any of the Granite Mountain Hotshots as I was a pilot, still when brothers go down it rocks your world in the worse way! God Bless em all! Warriors till the end!
