@brite1217 That's actually a great idea. The sticker would also make people wanna get it. U know how Funko collectors are. We'll be like I have the first and 2nd run. Lol.
@@dailybread2180 l mean ppl already use the production date to differentiate between costs. May as well add more unique stickers that actually are displayed.
Transparency is all I need. If they state something it vaulted, meaning it will no longer be produced. Then going out and spend a lot of money on it, only for it to be re-released is false advertisement. Just don't state anything is ever vaulted then.
To be honst, funko ist destroying there own concept to get more money in short time, but in long terms funko wont survive if they keep going like this(as a big firm)
Personally, I don't mind and am even a little glad to see the reprints. I don't collect for financial value. My collection isn't a portfolio, and no hate to those who treat it as such. I just want specific things in my collection. If I were to start a new collection, the cost would be too great and dissuade me, and I imagine others as well.
Same here. Re-sellers are what kill collections and possible new collectors. Since most just want to collect a certain line seeing a pop that was only sold in an "exclusive" in another country for 20$ be placed at 500$ is mind boggling. Good for anybody who's a "real" collector but I'd rather see reprints of everything because it hurts re sellers and the OGS still remain OGS.. People just don't get screwed over
Printing a variant should be the way to go. And that’s coming from someone who isn’t a collector now, but used to have tons of pops who started buying in 2014 Now I just buy video game pops that I LIKE. I have 6 pops total. My advice: Buy what you genuinely like and not just on impulse. That way if things like this happen, it won’t affect you as much. And if you’re a collector: It’s a part of the game, can’t be mad about it, you know? It’s kinda like gambling; you don’t know what to expect.
I am with you. Having items that are more sought after makes the hobby more fun for a large subset of collectors. Removing that element alienates that part of the community and will kill the hobby at some point in the future.
I think this is great! Too many resellers bought up all the original stock. I was up in plenty of time and tried to buy it right away with no luck. If you buy Funkos just to make money then quit buying them if this upsets you
Then they shouldn’t call it limited edition or a con exclusive. Continuing to restock those pops defeats the whole point and meaning of those kind of pops.
So collectors have to realize having the original printedelete from the Comic Con.Exclusive would make it more valuable because it's the original first print
Thank you skittle for keeping it 100% on this conversation. It’s a combination of all those things are the reason why ppl are selling their collections. Not just disinterest but the economy, the reprinting , the over production lol it’s a lot but I hope they turn the boat around because I love my collection and I love seeing everybody else’s
HELL NO, sad to say that’s the end of collecting for me. The price of the oldies will go right down. I am still mad at the Funko app merging with eBay 😡
Also was delighted and surprised while on holidays in Spain in 2022 to pick up Harry Potter and Ron in Christmas Jumpers, which were exclusives that originally were released in 2016!
All my funkos act as desk ornaments, so I am always happy to see reprints. I think it might be better for specifically the con exclusives to do a variation, like having the luffy in a pre time skip, or having his hat on.
Part of me hates it cause some people have spent SO MUCH MONEY on some con exclusives But, At The Same time more people will have access to some great pops at a affordable price.
It's good that you acknowledge that, at the very least. Most people want them to restock everything but don't feel for the people who spent all that money not knowing a restock was coming. It genuinely goes both ways.
No offense, but the way this post was worded shows which demographic you belong to, and this is the exact reason why this is such a problem. "...access to some great Pops at [affordable prices]," should be a benefit available to those purchasing items upon their initial release, period. There is no "but" in this discussion. You're either the person who made the smart/lucky purchase in the first place, or you're the person who has to pay extra down the line for a past release you really want. Otherwise Pops cease to be collectables.
@@beastwaynes4868Sorry if I worded it wrong I meant it like for instance some people have spent hundreds of dollars on a comic con brook but if they restock it then these people would’ve wasted their money and then as for newer collectors who may love this character but can’t afford it, it would be great for them. However funko could just make new molds for these characters.I was just saying that it’s very split for both of these types of people.Once Again sorry if I worded it wrong.
@@JDragneel718 I don't think you worded it wrong brother, I just think we disagree (which is fine)! It really comes down to whether or not you purchase Pops as collectibles or not. The reason that Funko has become so successful is due to exclusives, limited runs, and - above all else - vaulting. The answer is new models, just like you said.
QotD: 2015 first pop was Perfect Cell lol. Dr. Applesauce said it best and sadly it's true. Funko is no longer a collectable company for collectors they are a toy company. I've heavily toned down on collecting aside as well aside from something that means a lot.
I owned pops before genuinely wanting to collect them, but the ones that made me want to were the pops for Godzilla vs Kong, so April 2021 was when I started
As a young kid I honestly like when they reprint no matter the cause because it gives us cheaper collectors a wider variety and I am in love with funkos but also I hate how they do it because people spend so much money just for this to happen it’s sad. And I also love value collecting so I can definitely see why some people would love this and some would hate this
I started collecting about 4yrs ago, and the Pop that got me started was Eric Eazy-E Wright. I know its just the shared stickers, but they shouldn't do that it will destroy value. It's like Funko is trying to be a collectible company and a toy company at the same time. It won't work pick one or the other.
Funko is losing me day by day. Didn't buy anything for months and have no feeling of missing out. I'll go through my collection later and sell most of them. Just keeping a few ones I like. Because I don't have a good feeling where Funko is heading. The new CEO is shit.
I’m not sure why this is only coming out now but this happened already with this Pop in 2023 in Europe. It was a 2022 exclusive and it came out again in September last year with a 2023 production stamp. And now I see they did it again… they are also remaking vaulted Pops, and selling Pops that were Funko Shop Exclusive with the Special Edition sticker. 😪
I think they should. Because there are too many resellers out there that are snagging pops before real collectors get their hands on some. Secondly the reseller market price is ridiculously out of control. Reprinting should help with bringing down the price on the reseller market.
I want to collect them all and being that I’m a new collector it makes it easier for me to get, but I think it would be cool to do like a 10th year anniversary bundle on Vaulted, Chase etc pops. This way it would have its own value as an anniversary set but not ruin the original collector idea.
As I i only pick up things that I am interested in, if I can pick up something that I missed at a better price, I am all for it. A dealer, however may not like this as it keeps the price down. As a consumer it suits me.
started collecting funkos about 2 years ago and i literally just bought every one piece ride so far and i have some con funkos so i would be sad to see the pops i paid light $130 for go back to $40 each.
I guess they need money 😂. Well I agree because some of us are not from the USA so the con pops are hard to get but I disagree on the point that why make old pops, just come up with new designs. QOTD: the first line for Kimetsu no Yaiba. I got them as a birthday present and then I continue with anime, those are the one I collect
They do need money. There are stories online about Funko having to dump 10s of millions of dollars worth of product in the trash for a tax write off. This was last year.
“Funko should consider adding reprint stickers to restocks! It would help distinguish the original releases for OG collectors while still giving new collectors a chance to get their hands on popular figures. It’s a win-win!”🙃
I started Funko Pop collecting back in May of 2022. Also, the first Funko Pop I got was Sylveon. Now I got over 106 Funko pops in my collection. Oh, where has the time has gone by. I sometimes like reprints for certain popular exclusives that sold out and flippers are reselling for a higher price point. But it doesn't make sense for certain pops and con exclusives... 🤔
I started collecting in 2013, got a green ranger signed by Jason David Frank (RIP), at a con, and I've been at it off and on since then. I took a brief break a year or two ago, but I'm back at it and collecting heavy again now.
Thanks for the video! As a new collector...I would rather have to pay higher for something I missed, because I was later in the game. So I am on your side, but I wonder if I should continue to collect?
If they indicate the item as "vaulted" then keep it vaulted. If they indicate item as "limited" then keep it limited. Just remove the limited in the sticker lol for added transparency
I’ve been finding con Exclusives from 2022 at 5Below. Also been finding hot topic and amazon exclusives at party city. Funko just puts the old special edition sticker on them.
My first two pops I got was The Flash (tv show version) and Darth Maul in Australia when I went over in 2015 but didn’t really start to collect then until the end of 2020
I started collecting in Jan 2023. I believe my first funko pop was Dodoria. This is something I have always ask myself. What’s the point of putting a sticker on a pop stating is limited. There’s nothing limited to pops if they produce 50k quantities of each.
I only collect certain series but I also go for exclusive pre releases diamond editions etc not even for selling just because they look cool and I like it being exclusive but Funko needs to think shit through a little better before they lose more business
I can’t remember when I first started collecting but I do remember my first pop is a pirates of the Caribbean dead men tell no tales Jack sparrow Unfortunately I can’t remember where I put the box back then…..
I agree with the ghost face situation. Should still distinguished the original mold to newer version. Like franky having no silver nose on new prints...
This has been going on with funko europe for the last year to a year and half. They restocked all 3 One Piece pop rides at once about 11 months ago! They continued to do it the last year with one piece funko exclusives. I bought Gol D Roger in its original funko europe launch and it has restocked a second time awhile back and is still listed on the website as notify me! Also in Smyths toys in Ireland the original Sauron and Saruman just came into stock. Which were released in 2014 and 2017!
IMO: I think Funko doesn't understand the value and the fundamental about collecting toys. Soon or later, the excitement about collecting funko pops will disappear, because as now, I don't even go hunt for the certain characters anymore. I will find them eventually in a cheaper price and they will unvault the pops anyway!! Funko broke many fans' hearts!!
@@Bardenous it's is and isn't if people get frustrated and leave the hobby because they missed out on a certain pop that now 900$ . People will stop buying them in general. Then Funko will go out of business. And then Funko will be gone so theres that too . Yo consider
@@Bardenous I disagree because they will always be making new pops . It doesn't matter if they reprint an old one because there will always be new grails . Also it important for new fans to get hard to get pops it's a hobby not real estate . Also Funko will cease to exist if they don't reprint them
Started in 2015 with the girl from charlie brown that has a crush on him forgot her name. But she was 5 bucks and that activate the addiction to collect even after saying how ugly they were and all that haha not worried what direction funko takes anime funko pops are much cheaper than actual figures and its always nice collecting a series that is much more harder to get in another line
I started collecting just last year. I'm picky about the pops I get. The first one I got was I believe was AJ Mclean from the Backstreet Boys millennium collection. I want the other 4. I also have Spiderman Miles Morales bobblehead, Loki Bobblehead and Bianca Belair
I own a small collection and I personally can’t just buy these expensive con exclusives that I want but they shouldn’t be restocked. I like collecting something and rarity only elevates collections. Be destroying rarity they’re hurting everything that makes their company what it is.
Yup I totally agree with you I mostly collect Pokemon and I not need the same exact mold to be (Common, Flocked, Diamond & Etc.) so starting get rid of them. Apart for like a few Pokemon Just because of the sentimental aspect of it like I got it from my birthday or Christmas or whatever.
I first started around 2011-2012 and I think my first pop was soul from souleater, and honestly I hope they don't do this cause then what's the purpose of them having a con at all? When you do stuff like this it may seem nice at first but you notice how nothing really holds a high value like it used to and grails aren't really grails anymore they're shooting themselves in the foot
If they do this then is not more a collectible is just a toy. All Funko pop are not going to worth nothing and it takes the fun of hunting for a pop. I really don’t like the idea if they start doing it I will sell everything before they worth $7
Bro I don’t think they need another single Star Wars pop. There are so many and every collection I come across to buy are full of them. It makes the hobby look bad imo. But some people like them. So they should make them. Keep pushing forward Funko 💯
I definitely agree with you on alot of these points I feel if something has been vaulted or is a con exclusive than it should stay that way or just make a slightly different variation guys it's not that hard! There ARE PLENTY of funkos I missed that I had to pay 50-250 for it wasn't fun taking that out of my wallet but it still made me appreciate getting that Funko a lot more because it was something that I really wanted and I knew that not a lot of people had. Again I agree Funko is a business first and at the end of the day it's about profit margins. I think it's harder for the collector who pur forth all that time and effort going to all the stores hunting it down or waiting till first drop so they new they got a chance or got that exclusive. End of the day I'm not bashing Funko I enjoy the friends and this community you all are great!!!! It makes what I love worth so much more having someone to talk with and relate and see people getting just as excited about things as I am. I wouldn't have that without you all or Funko but I understand the situation for what it is.
I lost my father to cancer and needed to sell a lot of what I collect, including Funko… turns that due to these type of thing a lot of people lost interest in pops that no one wants to buy my stuff, they are offering me 30% of the value and if they are pops a year old or newer, they can only give me $3 for each.
Literally who cares, it’s plastic at the end of the day and they’re only artificially valued. Who gives af that you have a toy collectible that other people don’t. That’s like collectors elitism
I too collect rare, and high value Pop’s - pretty much exclusively. In fact, I won’t hesitate to pay $1000 for a single Pop - if it’s something I really want. No matter how bad the economy gets, there’s always going to be a buyer who has the cash, and is willing to spend. That said, I definitely have some assets. My collection doesn’t exceed 30 Pop’s but 90% of them are heavy hitting grails.
For qotd. My first one was actually gifted by one of my students. It was the Goku 28th world Tournament Funko Pop. And after that. Been collecting. That was 2017
it is just bad business practice to lie to your customers, doubly so when you're dumb enough to print your lies right on the package. i think this is mostly the end game for funko as a collector friendly company even though we've all seen it happening for years now but with Mike and Brian both out and the new CEO being a notorious money grubber this sort of thing will only become more common. also this is the first video i could truly tell you were a married man "in this economy?" is the quintessential husband response 🤣
Qotd: January 2015 was when I bought the Fading Cheshire Cat exclusive and The Undertaker from Black Butler at Hot Topic as my very first Pops. I got into them after my younger brother showed my mom the original Rocky set around the previous holiday season. I'm of both minds about this. I do like my older products to have value, and think that certain things like con pops and numbered pieces should stay with those amounts. But, I do also like seeing certain mid value store exclusives and commons getting re-prints to a certain point. I only have Rage Eren Titan and Mace Windu because I got their re-releases. With NFTs, a character should be significantly different from that version if it later comes out as a different exclusive or a common. Like the black box Star Wars ones or the current Classics line at the Funko-shop.
If funko wants to make unlilmited prints of whatever they want, then start a damn toy company. they market and classify as collectibles, so if they want to stay collectible, then i believe they are not going in the correct direction. i hope they fix their shit asap. i love funko and collecting and its so sad that the decisions theyve been making has pushed me away from the thing i love.
i guess this is the straw that broke camels back . If this is truly correct that they are restocking con exclusives then that's it for value collectors/exclusivity collectors. No incentive imo. for example I really want the Sailor Moon set and that is vaulted and it sucks I can't get it retail price anymore would be nice if Funko did a restock on those but it would also in a way I feel kill what makes the set special aside from value it kills the exclusivity of being one of the proud owners of the set. BUT then again it could be a case of the barcode for OG first print set for Sailor Moon having a different bar code from the re-printed waves but thats kinda stupid imo to determine exclusivity. Attending a con for one year and getting the exclusive sticker makes that event special cause you can only get it there and the shared sticker for those that cant go to the con. By reprinting con exclusives met for that particular con then that defeats the whole purpose?
