🔥 The fact that I could follow along and play this with the video without going at it for days and weeks means that the other exercises/techniques I've been practicing for weeks and months have been paying off. Progress.
Thanks, Daric. That song along with "For The Love Of You" were the songs I learned to play when the album was first released. I performed them with a South Florida band called East Wind.
I keep rewatching the fill you play in the beginning of the video. I tried to find bass tabs for this song and didn’t find any bass fills in the tabs. I’m sure many would appreciate you teaching how you play that clip at the beginning! I definitely appreciate your thoughtful teaching style
Dude, Thank you. That was Awesome. The reason I picked up the bass and put down the 6 string is for the funk. I need me some funk. I can't wait to give this a try. I'm just learning how to slap
Nice, thanks! :) I'm very much a metal head and I LOVE playing metal but I also love slap bass and funk is just a lot of fun for that. Actually I'm trying to incorporate quite a lot of slap technique into my metal bass-lines. I've always thought the very percussive sound fits the genre really well :) I just have to improve my slap more to be more versatile with it which is another reason for me to practice some funk playing.
Thanks, this is a cool line, just started to learn bas after being a front man and percussionist for 25 years, I'm subscribed and dig'n what you offer.
hasn’t he always had a bald head during the whole time on youtube? i mean it’s not big deal, the dude looks great and more importantly plays and teaches beautifully but yeah no hair.
☺️ This has Always been One of my Favorite Songs. Remembering when it First Came Out, it was So Funky. So Much is going on in this Song. Ernie Isley Guitar Part, The Vocals and the Message it was sending and Of Course Chris jasper on Keyboards. A Powerful Song. It made me Look at Marvin Isley a little different. because it felt like he said, Ok I'm gonna get Funky on this One. 😀 and he did. ☺️🙏🏽🎻🎸👍🏽✌🏽✊🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This. Is. BRILLIANT!!! Thank you for going into the deep technique of slap on the bass. I just ordered a J-bass through Fender's Mod Shop because I want to take the plunge and start learning funk bass. You just managed to crystallize one of the major techniques. Thank you!!!
To anyone, what's a good practice technique the relax the fretting hand thumb behind the neck? I know it's probably something simple...but it's eluding me.
The timing of the last g before returning to the beginning is the trickiest part and you didn't mention it. In other words the start of the line after the g is tricky.
