I've been to 2 shows and both them I could barely hear the melody, only the rest of the brass blasting in the background, very disappointing imo. This is a problem other ppl have stated too
Long story short that's my seat partner you're probably referring to (far left spinner at the end) and he did not actually pass out, he said he just got out of the prop kinda weird. Nobody has passed out from spinning in the props thankfully. And as a performer that San Antonio crowd was definitely quite the joy at the end 😁
It’s kinda weird to think I would watch your guys’ reactions all the time and now you’re reacting to a show I’m marching in for my rookie season. Life is pretty crazy
I understand the time issues and having lives and absolutely love what you do. Thank you for taking time to explore a group out of the top 4 as all corps have something special to offer.
I’ve noticed that you guys tend to focus on Top Five corps for your content (for the most part). So seeing that Mandarins are on your radar says something. The corps’ growth in the last five years is incredible!! Hoping they can hold on to their top five spot come finals week. Lots of exciting competition across the board this season!
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the tremendous rise of The Mandarins largely coincides with JW Koester being appointed their corps director. He was the corps director at SCV when they won their 6th DCI title by tying with BD for 1st at DCI World Championships back in 1999. In short, the man knows what he's doing.
You know I think it's cool to be able to be surprised at how far they have come. Because when I was marching mandarins wasn't even in world-class(division 1). I mean it's a testament to Ric and the staff
Reminds me of Cavvies 2010! From playing Smile to the uniforms to just the overall vibe, that corps was a force to be reckoned with and so is this one. Can’t wait to see their final product!
FUNLINER MORE UPLOADS! HAVING A LIFE IS SECOND TO THE CONTENT!!! For real, I am obsessed with y'alls content and I get so excited for the uploads. Can't wait to see yall react to Phantom and Cadets this year
Mandarins have come a long way since they were stomping D3 back in the 90s with like 15 horns and their classic pink unis. I've always loved these guys even when I marched against them as a PC dude between 99-01. They had 20-30 horns then but were bringing that fire! Mandarins always bring it! I believe Mandarins are the only corps to sport a 4-peat as well.
For the majority of the time while we were marching the mandarins were in fact not making finals. They did however for the first time in 2018 and 2019. No disrespect meant. Just highlighting what a huge achievement this year for them is in context.
I remember Mandarins as a corps that we didn't even know about when I was marching in A-90. Then they'd come in during finals week and beat us every year.
Even when they were in open class and only had a small group they were very innovative. Probably the epitome of slow and steady wins the race. (well along with the Crusaders)
Mandarins this year are amazing. Got to see them at DCI Houston and they were honestly top 3 in terms of enjoyment for me. Obviously things to fix but their sound was MASSIVE in person. They went out and set the bar pretty high that night.
As an OG BD guy I admonish you guys for not doing homework! Mandarins placed 13th in 2017 then 10th in 2018, 10th in 2019 and 10th in 2022. They are a legit top 12 soon to be top 6 corps! Shame shame shame such disrespect!!!!!! Toward a homey CA corps that produced many BD alumni
Smile is not a Sam Smith song. It was first used as an instrumental in the Charlie Chaplin film Smile in 1936( Chaplin himself wrote the music) lyrics were added later by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons. Nat King Cole released it in 1954 making it a staple of American music.
Mandarins literally got 1 member who was contracted with SCV. Mandarins’ rise this year is thanks to the amazing creative and instructional staff along with the hard work of the talented members.
