THAT was back in 2019 where they were goated like there was one freshmen so no need to change it and tradtional is usleess especially for there music i mean after 2019 the music got easier and less visual espically this year
Everett is giving music analysis judge vibes Seriously love watching these videos and the depth of Everett’s comments from his musical background both as a performer and educator.
The only problem and I mean the only that problem I have Tarpon is that they recruit across the whole of Pinellas county and more. It’s likened to the townships of many Midwest programs. It’s a Charter school program that recruits talent.
@@daviddesalvo623 Tarpon Springs most Def. They rest of the state as a whole not so much. Although Douglas HS has an amazing tract and story. They have overcome tragedy and cane back stronger for it! I’m always rooting for them as a Florida program.
That’s our son! He’s the trombone soloist and 1st chair, and our daughter is in the trumpet section. Both Wind Ensemble members. VHS went one time to Grand Nats, won it their first time! They also wonTMEA HONOR Band, Sudler Cup And John Sousa Award, and then went on to be invited to the coveted International Midwest Clinc. The director allowed anyone who could march,to march. No one was left out. That’s their motto.
Isn’t that the worst when you graduate and then the production’s really kick into gear? 07 Avon here. I look at my senior show and then what they did next year and I was like, “what the hell?!”
Ronald Reagan was the only band to beat Vandergrift 2019 in a head to head! Other recent high school “DCI “ sounding suggestions: Vista Ridge 2022 (TX) -Wonderful French horn feature) Hebron 2019, 2021 and 2022 (TX) Flower Mound 2022 (TX) -(same school district as Hebron) PS. List of Midwestern States: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. All the Bands you’ve reacted to are in the South. Not Midwest 😊🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😅
Reagan was certainly good. But I would say that Vandegrift really peaked at BOA Grand Nats. They put in a lot of grind in that week leading up to their departure for Indy.
@@joesekel7908 If Reagan would have decided to trek north they would have had another week to tweek and “peek” as well they would have no doubt taken the Eagle! So many Nats homers seem to forget that peeking another week for bands that may or ma not go to Indy is legitimate. Truth is trying to compare a program that peaked a week prior Nats due to season ending and trying to rank is illegitimate. Considering that any 2013-2023 SaSR program winner would be front runner for the Eagle Reagan would have no doubt taken the Eagle if given the opportunity.
@@johnnychikko3800 would have, should have, could have. Here's the thing, Vandegrift actually took the Eagle so anything else is just BS and conjecture...or perhaps jealousy and sour grapes.
Btw, for ANY TX band that comes out of San Antonio Super Regional and wins BOA Grand Nats, regardless of who happened to score higher in San Antonio, I’ll be super proud and congratulatory without any caveats whatsoever. That is a sign of a true fan of TX HS Marching Band and maturity.
I’d love to see you react to some smaller ensembles! Highland Park 2019 and Rouse 2021 are all fantastic examples. To get even smaller, Argyle 2021, North Lamar 2016, and Canton 2018 are all great shows. If you want to continue with the larger (and ultimately more impressive) groups, Flower Mound 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, the Woodlands 2013, 2021, and 2022 are all a bit weirder shows that still have insanely high levels of difficulty and execution. Blue Springs 2017, 2019, and 2022 and any Tarpon Springs show are similarly strange but have a bit smaller groups.
I was the volunteer for keeping time for their music warmups, a friend had traded me shifts because she knew how much I wanted to see them this year and ill be forever thankful, Grand nats 2019 was one of the best experiences of my life :)
Loving all of the reactions videos! Carrying on with visual proficiency, I'd like to see some reactions to some older DCI stuff; early 2000s Cavies comes to mind. I know we've probably all seen them a bunch but going back and watching them with a critical eye is always fun.
Lots of schools like to use matched because it's a lot easier to teach to younger students, even among mature-sounding ensembles in Texas. Believe it or not, "traditional vs. matched" is a very hot debate even among many professional percussionists.
I don't care what Stewart Copeland says: there is literally no advantage other than visual appeal to traditional grip. Every single thing someone plays using traditional can be executed equally well using matched and vice versa.
Broken Arrow 2021 Edge of Eternity And a less known but seriously amazing yet forgotten 2nd place show.. broken arrow 2014 Faceme. That’s from back in my day. Probably the most artistic HS show I’ve ever seen. Was only beaten by Tarpon springs in grand nats by .15, another amazing show.
I agree to that. I find wind shows to be more aptly designed than a lot of winter Drumline shows nowadays. The only thing that throws me is the backing track. I’d love for that to change but then it’s just indoor marching band so my idea probably stinks.
Agree about Broken Arrow 2021. Everett, could you do a podcast breaking down the DCI scoring sheet, caption by caption, explaining what's being looked for and how the corps is achieving that? Please provide examples (not too much Felliniesque ). Also what would say a 19.5 vs. 19 in a sub caption look like? Great job in providing your insight
I’m going to throw Avon’s 2010 Iconoclash at you. Would love your thoughts when reviewing mashed music material, or even a DCI show that did that kind of arranging.
As a high school director. When it comes to matched grip in the snares it is just easier to clean. Yes traditional grip looks awesome but matched grip is just easier to a line to clean Hands when you don’t have drum corps quality players.
I played in the Texas Tech snare line and we used match grip. Drumlines use match grip because you can naturally get a more even sound out of the drum from hand to hand.
@@funlinerproductions7071, I know there were some corps in the early 2000's that used match grip as well at one point. SCV used it in '83, '94 and '05. The problem with match grip is the snare has to be mounted lower on the body so it can potential interfere with drill especially if you have to run or transition quickly from front to back. Even though it's not a natural motion, I prefer a line to play traditional for that very reason. Higher mounted drum means the left stick is more parallel to the playing surface and bottom part of the drum is out of the way for those crazy maneuvers.
It's not a high school, but I'd love to see y'all react to SCVCadets 2022. It won the Open Class Championship that year. Mostly high school-aged marchers from California. Almost entirely rookies.
If your ever interested in a small band do Allegany high school. I’d recommend waiting till November for this year, however we won 2021 and 2022 as well. As for the reason to wait, the colorguard work is harder that anything it has been recently and it’s looking good already for second week of band camp.
American Fork High School Marching Band 2022. American Fork is from Utah and is the Champions of the West. We placed 13th in 2022 BOA Grand National Semifinals.
The first public performance when I saw this I told my wife this was a "National Chamionship winning show." This was a fantastic show and it developed better than any other Leander ISD show. Could this compete with the Hebron 2020 show? Not sure but this is the last Texas show to bring Eddy back to Texas, so that is a statement in and of itself.
Texas has had several shows in the 2010’s that would have brought back the Eagle. The problem is most of these programs are on a 2- 4 year rotation. UIL State rotations. And it cost too much money to travel to Indiana yearly! 😀. Fun fact. : The last time San Antonio sent our SASR winner was in 2013 with the Woodlands
@johnnychikko3800 oh, no doubt. I have been to ever SASR since 2012....and only missed one 5A 6A UIL state championship as well. I don't downplay Texas achievements.
The Ohio Marching 110 is insane, they aren’t a competition band but they are a really cool band to watch and if you check them out I suggest their 2015 Bruno Mars show. They are a college band
I think you should react to China Spring high school's 2023 finals performance because I know that they are mostly freshman and sophomores. And considering that they got 4th this year, they will probably do even better in the future.
Can you react to Calgary Stampede Showband 2023? This show just won them their 7th WAMSB World Championship with the highest score ever in that competition. We were also the DCI International Class Champion in 2022 so you could react to that show as well. We were less than a point out of semifinals which I think is impressive considering we're a literal marching band, operating on effectively a DCA schedule, from a country with no strong marching band culture like the US.
i think you should react to Ronald Reagan’s 2019 show, it used to hold a BOA super regional record before 2023 and has some very memorable monents (as well as a fun trombone feature)
I know I'm biased, but I would love for you to react to my high school marching band, "The American Fork High School Marching Band" 2022 :) It is the best marching band in Utah, and possibly the western front
