Karl is the funniest man ever. A lot of British people are like him actually, my husband can be the same. Us British love Karl because he epitomises a certain group of British males and just how funny they truly are. Im so glad you show Karls videos.

He has an amazing way of thinking. Not in a stupid way, but an almost child-like way. On one of his XFM shows he was once asked what future technologies he thought would be invented, and bearing in mind this was the early 2000s, he basically predicted Augmented Reality (but described it in a more simplistic way, i.e., glasses you put on and see what you want to see instead of the real world... You could look at a graffiti covered wall in a crappy part of town and see a row of flowers instead, or something to that effect). Ricky and Steve just laughed at him saying what utter bull that was and would never happen, and then now we actually have it.

Augmented Reality has actually been around for decades, in one form or another. But I agree that Karl is kind of unique, and in fact shares many traits with people with Asperger Syndrome.

The ricky gervais show is basically the karl pilkington show, they just had to name it like they did because of the studio wanting a famous name tied to it. It's Ricky and Stephen asking Karl questions and giving him dilemmas to think about. each episode is about 25min and people have done reactions to it without issue.

I can confirm that conversations like these take place in every works canteen every day in the UK. As for the Elephant Man, you have to admire that he didn't let all the jibes get him down, he was very thick-skinned. The Chinese obsession probably comes from when he was filming idiot abroad there and was force fed toads.

Karl used to live in London next to ChinaTown and he used to walk through there everyday to get to work at the Radio Station where he worked as a producer. That's the reason why he keeps bring up the Chinese when talking about race.

On one of the XFM radio shows , Ricky once started giving out Karl’s mobile number because Karl was off Sick and it annoyed Ricky so much. Every other segment they gave out a digit at a time until Karl rang in and explained why he was off.

Karl is a self aware aspie, so he knows what his natural reaction is and also how to play it up for comedic effect. Everything he initially says is his natural reaction, but when asked to expand, he amuses himself following through on how his brain thought when he was younger.

I agree completely. Karl is more than aware of his own quirkiness and the inherent comedy in his musings. He’s also got fantastic comic timing and, in his own strange way , a very unique and interesting thought process.

Karl is way smarter than people give him credit for. The one thing the XFM show didn't need was a third 'smart Alec', what it needed was someone to open interesting conversation topics and to offer differing opinions to Ricky and Steve. It worked a treat!

The "theory of infinity" is one of my favourite thought-experiments. There's actually no way to prove or disprove it because the concept will keep looping back on itself, Cantor drove himself bonkers trying to nest infinity into Set Theory..it's a fun one to play with, but it never arrives at a stop.

@@redf7209 To the best of memory, it all relies on whether we live in an inifinte universe or not, but we can't really prove that one way or another as the furthest edges we can detect are only the extent to which light has travelled, the actual edges of the universe are beyond that. There's two really weird precepts of an infinte universe, the first stipulates that there's infinite versions of you throughtout the universe, the other is that in a turning infinite universe, travelling a straight line will eventually cause you to loop back on yourself and arrive before you left.

@@gabbermensch The lack of infinity in real life shouldn't undermine the theoretical construct, just as the lack in real life of an infinite amount of monkeys and typewriters didn't. The idea of contraction and therefore the unlikely hood of infinite time has been around for a long time too. However I like the idea of the loop. Perhaps the mathematical critique depended on the solution being at the end of infinity which by definition doesnt end.
