I honestly was blown away by how much I ended up enjoying it. I thought it was legitimately great, emotional, funny, and really well done. Unfortunately it barely made any money at the box office despite the overwhelmingly positive reviews so I highly doubt we will get a sequel.
This whole movie was subtle and brilliant. It’s not just that his concentration breaks, it’s his subconscious idea that this is the overblown way Chris Pine’s character performs.
Reminds me of some kids movies where something like this is just the beginning of the acid nightmare trip the animators decided to throw into the middle of the movie.

I paused at "What madness is this.", I began dying laughing at the pure trauma in his voice, I then un-paused to witness "monstrous groaning". I am dying from lack of breath, I am crying, and about to pass out from laughing too hard.
I love how the Morales family feels so real that it rounds out to them being one of the best in cinema. Most of the humor from their banter comes from us having the same banter with our families.
