They have a wide appeal. That's why they're so successful

You have to remember older people didn't have this sort of thing growing up, they only had fake TV shows and talk shows. Seeing real friends living their best life may remind older fans of their childhood friend group in ways a scripted tv show never could or perhaps they never had this kind of friend group around them so they really connected with the sidemen as people and they can sort of live vicariously through the boys. It's no different than football fans of all ages living vicariously through their favorite teams and players. It can mean so much to fans and have a lifelong positive effect on them in some way (or negative for some who go overboard...) This is no different than that, most older people will never give youtube or this content a try because they just aren't able to relate. But some people are just forever young at heart and those people are typically your favorite older family members growing up so don't hate lol
