Hello everybody!
The Korean language has so man funny and interesting words and I wanted to share a few with you! Learning and studying Korean is quite a challenge (for me), but it’s easy to remember interesting words or sayings (pronunciation not so much 😅).
Thanks to Seungeon for helping out and let me know if you would like to see more Korean language related videos like this one!
Do you know any funny or interesting Korean word? :))

Hi Winta! Thanks a lot! I really like these "quirky" words and always feel a small sense of achievement when I hear someone say them on the street (uhhh not that I'm eavesdropping or anything) and understand it ;)

Hi Dixon! Thank you so much for your nice and interesting comment! I‘m always very fascinated by the language similarities and the origins of words and how they mix and travel ;) There are also so many similarities with Japanese and Chinese since they used to use Chinese letters (and still do, but they also changed in the meanwhile). Have a nice weekend and stay safe, too!! Greetings from Seoul!

Thanks for sharing words that you have learned! I have no idea why learning the Japanese writing system seemed (somewhat) easy for me but hangul is something I just haven't grasped yet. Maybe someday I'll learn Korean and remember words that you shared in this video :D

Hi Adam! Thanks for watching and commenting :)) Haha really? Tbh I still can't read Katakana 😅 So many Koreans always tell me how easy Korean is, but I don't think so. Maybe the words won't come in handy, but I hope they're still interesting and fun ^^

Omg I have never heard some of these before 😂😂😂 I need to write it down for my new words dictionary haha! But on the serious note, some expressions in Korean have that untranslatable feeling to them, I am having a hard time explaining them to english speakers or even people from my country too! You just need to insert those into your sentences for your thoughts to make sense sometimes! Haha

Hello! Thanks for your comment :)) Well, I have to admit that learning Korean is waaay harder than learning English 😅I agree, it's interesting how humor differs in different languages and societies. In Germany sarcasm and irony are very common, but here in Korea Germans are considered very unfunny, some things may also get lost in translation. Hope you'll also like some future videos here! ;)

I found the talk about sarcasm very interesting. I've wondered about this as I haven't noticed a lot of sarcasm in Korean society
@Victoria_Lee
@Victoria_Lee 4 года назад
Hi Justin! Thanks for saying that! Personally, I like sarcasm a lot, but I noticed that it hits differently here. Speaking with an accent and not being fluent also makes it a bit difficult to convey humor ^^; Have a nice day!

Hi Seungeon! See you soon! This was a fantastic video and loved learning these new words. I agree with Celia and think this could be a fun series on your channel. "We edited it out because I talked shit" hahahaha I love you Victoria. I always thought it was interesting how weird words come together to make a new one in Korean and when translated into English, it sounds ridiculous. But tbh English does the same thing like "wood pecker" which makes sense but sounds funny separately.

I love half the time, you're teaching him things lol. Never knew about 뜨또. It's so cute and I love that it's a meme 😂This was actually so fun to watch! I'd really like to see you share stuff from your german culture as well! It's cool hearing you speak German! Making you can share German culture things that you can try in Korea :D
@Victoria_Lee
@Victoria_Lee 4 года назад
Hahaha that's why we always joke if he really is Korean 🤣Agree, 뜨또 sounds cute, it actually reminds me of the Pokemon "Ditto". Thanks for saying that, I was a bit nervous about uploading it, since it's a different video format and topic. Also thanks for taking the time and your suggestion! Trying German things in Korea, that's a good idea! I once went to a German restaurant here and it was a bit traumatizing (probably not as bad as your squid experience lol), but maybe I could look for something more!

Ohhh, we were wondering what was SNS. We imagine as much. We have something similar to work bug, travel bug... people who need to travel often. Nabol says he has pods under his eyes too. LOL 😂 "What does that has to do with this?" Hahaha 😂 😆 Korean is so confusing to us. We're trying to learn it and not being very successful. 😂 You're so funny together. Really like the story about the coldness being envy of the blossoms. In Latin America, things get abbreviated a lot too.

It's 99% English and sometimes I try to practice my Korean a bit, but somehow it's super weird to talk in Korean to each other?! I think the word you might be looking for is astringent! We have a similar word in Japanese too (shibui) and it can also be used to describe a certain kind of aesthetic that is rugged, old fashioned in a chic way, austere, elegant. It's hard to describe, but originally it comes from this unripe persimmon flavour! And though you don't hear it much in English, it seems there is a word after all! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astringent_(taste)
@Victoria_Lee
@Victoria_Lee 3 года назад
Hi Brixton! Ah that's so interesting! Just googled shibui and really like the aesthetic. The article also mentions unripe bananas, I think that can be a very universal example ^^ In German we have the word "Adstringenz", but it's only used in a wine-context. 🤔 Thanks a lot for your insight! :))

@@Victoria_Lee My pleasure! I just discovered your channel! Your videos are so pretty! I just moved to Seoul but I lived just outside Kyoto for about 4.5 years and all your videos there made me feel so homesick for it! Your Seoul related content has me excited to live here though too :)

Thank you so much!! So you also went abroad in 2016?! OMG you lived in Kyoto?! What a dream, that city is so beautiful 🥺 I miss Japan, too (or at least being able to go to Japan in my case haha). The vibe here in Korea is quite different, isn't it? Soon the cherry blossoms will start blooming and Seoul will turn very green, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here, also the cafes here are very pleasant :))
@ydalir

@@Victoria_Lee I should stress outside of Kyoto haha! I lived in the countryside in Shiga, but it was only around a half hour by train to Kyoto so I was there most weekends and sometimes even during the week. But the subways and things are so cheap in Seoul, it's a dream! And there are cafes everywhere! So far that has been the best part. Cute cafes, all with wi-fi, all with places to charge your laptop. In Japan, those are VERY few and far between :( And yeah! It is so cheap to travel there! I really hope come autumn things ease up and we can travel again. I am itching to go back and see everyone and everything againnn!
@Victoria_Lee
@Victoria_Lee 3 года назад
Ah Shiga, I have a friend from there ^^ it’s famous for its lake, right?! I tried to go there during my last Japan trip, but didn’t manage 🙈 Yes, in comparison to Japan public transportation is so cheap here and also very easy (looking at you Tokyo with all those confusing subway lines haha). Right, I was wondering about that, why can’t you charge your phone at cafes in Japan?! Is it because they don’t want tourists to linger around? Fingers crossed we can travel again in autumn 🤞🥺
