one of the funniest moments to me was Roman, after spending the entire time bragging about his rocket lauch, watches the thing go up in flames in silence, no buildup, it just randomly explodes
@@amyd6591 Such a stroke of genius, that. At once a commentary on Roman in particular but of course on our whole society, that exact culture of one’s whole world being in one’s phone. The screen is our only connection to reality, to life and we can make it all go away by simply putting the thing in our pocket. A generation ago you’d have to shut off the television to make it all go away but the tv still remains, as a reminder, visible. Idk, there just seems to be so much going on in that exact gesture you’re identifying.
@@amyd6591 Kind of like Don, actually, when Megan makes him listen to "Tomorrow Never Knows." he listens for a minute and then unceremoniously lifts the needle from the vinyl; he just doesn't want to know. Another gesture of denial. Like the counter-culture will all just go away and Megan will stay home and cook him dinner if only he can make this goddamned psychedelic confusion stop. :)
Listen. The other two season of this show are equally perfect but if they would've hard cut to a title screen after that line and that's how the entire show ended, I would not be upset.
There's multiple layers of context that make it so great though. When I first heard the line out of context before watching the show, I didn't get why people thought it was so funny.
It's the only moment I can think of in the entire show where a character looks directly at the camera it feels like a gag from The Office in it's prime
That was so spot on! The fight! Believe me I have 5 siblings!! That’s how we would fight, end up pissed with slap marks all over! Not allowed to cry☹️rolling Around trying to do as much damage as possible but actually don’t do any damage
Mad Men, Deadwood, Sopranos, Wire, Breaking Bad...all of them are brilliant comedies. The deft tonal shifts and integrations they're all capable of is amazing. Succession may be the best of them all on that front.
I keep replaying this 😂 also im sure it's been brought up but havent seen anyone mention "have you ever read mein kampf?" "Uhh..yeah, a couple times." "Couple times? What, did you miss some easter eggs the first time?!" kdsndnsksksk
For me it’s when he puts his wine in a blender and drinks it like a smoothie “I hyper-decant. You don’t hyper-decant? You’re just doing regular decanting? It ages your wines five years in ten seconds”
The best part might be that Jeremy Strong apparently worked that entire thing out with the creative team in secret beforehand. None of his castmates knew exactly what he was going to do. All the reactions are ACTUALLY just them in real life trying to process what's happening in front of their eyes right now.
Connor’s speech at Lester’s funeral has to be one of THE funniest things I’ve ever seen 😂😂😂 That was probably my favorite moment of this show, among MANY hilarious moments
@@Andrelones First time I watched it I thought it was Connor making shit up on the spot but when I rewatched the scene and saw that it was Willa writing this whole speech for him and Connor just reading it unfazed it made it so much even funnier
"I'm a plant that grows on rocks and subsysts off bugs that die inside him." God I love that Conner being one of the most made fun of characters throughout the series says that quote.
Literally no compilation includes it but for me one of the funniest scenes was when Roman was seeing this waystar spot and it shows Kendall talking about the company and then cuts to Roman for like 2 seconds where he’s not saying anything
I almost died three times within these short eleven minutes and eleven seconds. The part where Kendal looks at Greg and says "who says I haven't killed someone" was beyond creepy and made my skin crawl... yet it was his cheesy grin that put me out of commission. Best Succession comedy montage ever.
My forever fav: “He just said that to be nice. What I think he meant to say was that he wishes mom gave birth to a can opener, because at least then it would be useful.”
Calls to mind Greg's, "Umm, Nazis? Um, yeah, Nazis are the worst!" and "I'm against racism" to which, Tom, "Oh, bullshit, we're all against racism! I'm against racism!" Hahahahahahah!!! Omg, I crack up just thinking of lines and scenes from this show,
A couple of my favorite Tom/Greg moments that I'd add to this: "Forgive me, but are we talking to each other on the poop deck of a majestic schooner? ls the salty brine stinging my weather-beaten face?" Also, the bit where Greg asks him if he's ever been to California Pizza Kitchen and says they make a Cajun chicken linguine just how he likes it and Tom tells him that's not how he's supposed to like it.
ive been quoting "you're too online" to myself ever since i saw it. like in context it's the douchebaggiest thing ever. but out of context? you know what. maybe i am. thanks kendall.
Roman "comforting" Kendall at the end of Season Three is peak Succession for me. "Well that tracks... One waiter down. All I'm saying is , Who's the real victim here? I waited forty-five minutes for a gin and tonic." Haha -)
From the finale, I really fucking loved Shiv's "MOTHERFUCKER" off screen and then whatever Kendall says after that, and also when she yells to Roman "Hey Rome, guess who Ken thinks it should be - it'll blow your fucking mind!"
I knew Tom was gonna be the best character the moment he bailed on Shiv fighting with Roman, his main priority being not getting noticed. He knew how to handle a situation from the beginning
SPOILER -- Also, now that I see it again, it successfully predicts that he will inherit the company. It's the huge-corporation ethos in a one-second move.
we need more greg! "some guy with an undercut just called me soyboy...?" "my sand bites are getting bitten by midges" "negotiate a bit of a gregxit" and "are you trying to seduce me?" "yes." (this may be my favorite succession comp. thanks for sharing!)
lmfao one of my fav scenes, they're in the car greg and tom are on the phone and tom says: "oh fuck your grandpa!" "we're on speaker phone!" "...well i did not know that."
My favorite line is at Toms bachelor party and he says to Greg “I’m having the time of my life” and Greg replies “this is nightmarish” Everything about it makes me laugh every time
"I'm just fucking with you--the way you fucked me as a baby." Omg, my sides are splitting all over again. That's some of the best comedy of all time. Connor is the perfect straight man. It's so. easy to push his. buttons and Rome just can't help himself. And on a deeper level it's interesting to see how Roman alternates between "the business of sadist and masochist (...and you know which one you are)."
6:46 Fun fact: this whole interaction, including, the line "you're widely known as a horrible person," was completely improvised by Nicholas Braun and Kieran Culkin. Greg going after Roman was never in the script
