Thankyou both for this interesting tour. I just started floor living two months ago and I'm amazed at how quickly I've adapted. I was plagued by back, neck and shoulder pain for decades but since getting rid of my bed and sleeping on a shikibuton (3" thick, on carpet) all my pains have vanished. Next week I'm donating my sofa and making a floor seating area. I never thought I could become so flexible suddenly in my 50's but all the squatting and getting up from/down to my floor bed has vastly improved my hip mobility, and sleeping on the floor has even improved my posture! Donating some furniture also made a space for a weights bench and airwalker in the lounge, which are much more useful to my health than cupboards ever were! I really hope that floor living becomes more popular here in England 🙂

This is such an amazing story! Thank you for sharing it with us. We have experienced exactly the same and will probably never get up off the floor again 😍

I am all for minimalist living, minimal being the key. A table, 2 chairs, 1 bed, 1 bookcase, and absolutely a comfy sofa, and lamps.

That's the great thing about minimalism - it's different for everyone. The key is avoiding the clutter trap, and by the sound of it you've definitely achieved that! 😀

This was a very interesting video and really has me thinking... I never thought about intentionally placing frequently used items down low and was honestly surprised when you explained your preference for a third floor apartment. I think those are very wise decisions on your end!!! We are a minimal-ish family and recently downsized our home. When we were choosing a new house, we considered what would be “convenient” to us as we age. Using that logic, we selected a house with bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen all on the first floor. We thought that floor plan would allow us to accommodate our aging parents and also allow us to age in place- thinking stairs might become increasingly difficult when we are elderly. We are in our 40s and in very good health now. Watching this video, a lightbulb turned on for me and I realized that I should be looking for ways to stave off, rather than accommodate, future limitations! Wow!!!

I discovered Katy Bowman a few years ago and we have been gradually getting rid of furniture here too. We rent a house on Australia and our children are all adults (we are mid 40s). We sleep on a futon mattress straight on the floor. We use another as a couch (trifled on the floor). The legs of our dining table are cut off for floor sitting. I also have a balance beam inside and pull up bars outside to hang from. Would love monkey bars in the hallway and a trapeze in the living room 😀 thanks for sharing your set up xx
@MostlyMindful

Wow! Your nutritious movement efforts are entirely inspiring! We love the idea of cutting the legs off a table for dining! What do you mena by "trifling" the futon as a couch? 😉
@nonisampson697
@nonisampson697 2 года назад
@@MostlyMindful auto correct! I meant tri-folding. So it is double thickness on the "seat" and a single thickness leaning against the wall. A comfy floor couch. And a spare bed when the kids come to stay.

Interesting thanks! Maybe you could get some used shoe boxes for your clothing cupboard and try storing your clothing vertically, like Marie Kondo suggests. I do that in my drawers and am able to fit all of my foldable clothes into one drawer of a dresser!

Great clip! Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of your furniture free apartment. Loved the little kiddies chair for your bedside table. I too have a chair as a bedside table but it's a full size one. I still sleep in a bed. I also have what I call a hook rack hanging over one of my doors to hang things. My house isn't as minimalist as yours but I do use everything I have 😊👍G'day from OZ!!! Lol

Hey! Howzit from Safrica 🤣 Thanks for another comment ❤️ It's so serendipitous that you chimed in on this one. We were talking about doing another tour of the apartment this very morning, because things have changed a little, and that just sealed the deal! Love the hook rack, we drag it with us wherever we move to. So much simpler than installing things! Love the idea behind "using everything you have", we have a 3 month rule - if we haven't used it in 3 months it must go. Unless it's winter clothing or something like that.

@@MostlyMindful Hi Ang and Sporty. Sorry I'm late in getting back to you. It was a long post I sent to you and for you to tell me you never got it, I had to wait a few days to retype it for you. But what I was saying you can still grow veggies on your balcony without direct sun. I bought a compact greenhouse from amazon and I was able to start my veggies in early Spring after the last frost. I was still cold out but the GH kept them warm. Another option to help your veggies grow is to buy grow bulbs from Amazon. Just set the bulb(s) out on the balcony and put the veggies even seedling under the lights and this would provide enough light for them to grow until harvest. Some people buy them for indoor plants/veggies as well as to use outdoors in their gardens. If I was you I would give both options a try and you will be amazed that you can actually grow plants, flowers, and veggies without the sun or partial sun. Hope this helps. Renee` from the USA.
