Hi For coastal surveillance What are the best models.. Is it better to use more than one radar.. can they combine and process to give one final resault ? About the height will it cause any blind area because of the angle with the vertical axis?

hi, may sound like a stupid question, I have an older open array radar, and will be installing it on my boat, cant seem to find whats the front of the array unit , seems no one seems to mention it ever

Thanks for watching! The best thing to do is get the model number of your Radar and then go to the Furuno Forum (furunousaforum.com/) and ask your question in the Radar section. There a Furuno dealer or tech will be able to answer your question.

I used to climb up onto the mast of my dad's yacht and he would always yell at me and claim the radar is going to fry my brain and my gonads making me infertile. Is there any truth to this or was he just pulling my leg?? We had two of them up there that looked just like this and they would spin around.

Great question! This is a common question and one that we've answered on our Furuno Forum. When you get a chance, take a look here: furunousaforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=508&p=2092&hilit=hazard&sid=55220177a1adbe8944484cbea047d32d#p2092. Keep in mind, this information is for magnetron Radars, the effects of Solid State is different.

Hi. So your radar follows the curvature of the earth to reach 70 something miles is that true? So the old theory of the higher the radar antenna the further you can see is not right?
@FurunoMarineElectronics
@FurunoMarineElectronics 3 года назад
Hi Mike, both are true. A higher Radar antenna can see farther, and an effect called Refraction can cause the Radar beam to deflect downwards in the atmosphere, extending its range beyond the horizon. You can learn more about the properties of Radar in our Learning Center: furunousa.com/en/get_support/learning_center/reference_materials

@@FurunoMarineElectronics yup, just like in amateur radio. There are times and atmospheric conditions (and certain frequencies) where I could chat with people in the UK from America on a HAM radio.

I love you guys. You, and many other manufacturers, seem to think anyone finding your website has a certain amount of 'Radar', or any other knowledge for that matter.. Trust me on this. I have been trying to find what an open or a closed radar is. No luck. All google want to give me is you lot of sellers. I have been trying to find out what and how Radars work, THEN which product is better. The lexicon of the technology. If i were your sales Director, i would tell you to post a video on what radar is and does, THEN sell your product. Here's a question for you Tim, where do i go to find out what an open, or closed Radar is? No, i don't want to find seabirds feeding on fish for christ sake. I don't want you to tell me the screen has pretty colours. I want the best Radar for my 65ft motor yacht and i am told yours is the best, why?. I have an open budget.Gotta tell ya, as a newbie to radar your videos taught me nothing.

Hi Robert, In a nutshell, an Open Array Radar is one where you can see the antenna spinning, while a closed or Dome Radar is one where the antenna array is enclosed within a dome. Open Array antennas are larger and offer better performance. We've got a great Radar Handbook available on our web site that can help you to answer all of your questions about what a Radar is and how to use it. Here's a link to the Furuno Radar Handbook: www.furunousa.com/en/get_support/learning_center/reference_materials/radar_handbook Let us know if this helps - thanks, Robert!
