Honestly, would have been okay if it was a band of volkssturm. You might expect them to run around like lemmings. But the fact that the movie bigged up the germans as being a veteran SS battalion, no way would the final scene happen. You're right, the tank would be killed almost outright.

It makes far more sense why Brad Pitt’s character is the way he is when after you’ve seen the deleted scenes. He got drunk, got in a fight, and drove his girlfriend and brother home. They died from the crash and he survived with those scars to prove it. He was given a choice: prison or the war. When a man like him has seen too much and done too many things wrong he lives to fight hoping he can redeem himself or dying trying.

That tin can Tami is still in service since there's so many of them left in working condition. The Sherman is just a Chaffee but heavily upgraded. So try to compare it other tanks that are a light/medium mix. Not medium/heavy. Can't rely fairly compare even a Panther to a Sherman since the weight and senior values are closer to a heavy tank. Don't even think America had any heavy tanks that were used in wwii. The kv series, t34 and t34-85 are a better matchup up against a tiger. They were pretty big tanks mounted with a more than efficient main gun to face off against armored vehicles/tanks. Sherman's are used for light tank fights and ground support

A lot of people saying the German's fought badly. I would agree that plot armor takes into account for most of that expectation. The movie also portrays the Germans as only having 1 box (4 Panzerfaust). Remember the first volley by Fury was to take out the truck transport with all their ammo as it is illustrated. In the movie the one successful Panzerfaust hit was to the left turret ring. Since Fury had already expended all of it ammo and it is possible that Fury dumped most of their fuel, not much would have combusted upon hit by the Panzerfaust. So IMHO with the scope of the movie illustrating sacrifice and grit....The Germans did what they could do when all they really had were a few MG42 and some spit balls. The big question is why would any of the German's after the first volley go anywhere near the hull gunner but I digress. The screenplay also had Fury with too little ammunition for final battle. But in the end, it is just a movie illustrating the horror's of war and fragility of men forced to make impossible choices. Later.

"We are a tank, if the enemy destroys the tracks, we are artillery, if they destroy the main gun, we are pillbox, if they destroy the machine guns, we are bunker, if they destroy the armor, WE ARE HEROES". The main problem I had with this movie isnt what most critics focus on, but the fact that they'd choose to stay here and fight it out with limited ammunition and options and almost certain death so close to Germany's capitulation.

I would think that the commander's responsibility is the safety of the crew and not the tank. The M4 is expendables, but the crew is not. Knowing that the there's a whole battalion of infantry that is coming to them while having a broken down tank, without infantry support and still insisting on holding the position. Typical hollywood heroism, in real life the commander would have just scuttle the tank, and live to fight another day.

Not in the case that is given in the movie. This SS battalion had slipped through the lines and outflanked the logistical core, they would have swept through the camp and massacred doctors, medics, cooks, and nurses.

except it's unrealistic as shit. It would take a motorized Waffen-SS battalion approximately 5 minutes to completely neutralize the Sherman tank. They would also only have been able to kill around 2 - 3 waffen SS soldiers. This is a prime example of bad leadership. Nothing more. No wonder ''Wardaddy'' only was promoted to Sgt. after 2 years of intense combat.

Joshua Garner this movie is fiction, this never happened and an ss battalion would of been able to take out the Sherman with two panzerfausts and kept marching and in an earlier scene Fury took a shot from a Tiger that deflected, the problem is the Tiger Tanks 88mm gun would of punched through a Sherman Firefly with ease and killed everyone inside, its a good movie but its historically inaccurate, if it would of been an m26 Pershing it would if been more believable but the Pershing isnt as iconic as the Sherman
@mikeyforester6221
@mikeyforester6221 7 лет назад
blake vogl actually the shot off the tiger could be deflected the tank was at the perfect angle and it does cause a deep gash in the side plus the 88mm does take out the other 3 tanks witch was normally the case 4 Sherman's v 1 tiger year the tiger was a better tank but the Germans made like 500 of them where as the yanks had like 30 thousand Shermans they were just too many for the germans to destroy

M4A3 Easy 8 (M4A3E8) The M4A3E8 is one of the most mass-produced modifications of the main U.S. armored vehicle of the World War II period. The tank featured the welded hull and Ford GAA carburetor engine. A total of 11,424 vehicles with the improved HVSS suspension were produced by Fisher Tank Arsenal and Detroit Tank Arsenal from June 1942 through March 1945. The vehicle is also known as M4A3(76)W. It took part in many after-war conflicts up to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Nicknamed as the "Easy-Eight" or "E8", this tank is a quicker, slightly better armored version of the M4 Sherman. It also has an upgraded 76mm gun with an improved rate of fire and better accuracy. Considering all this, the M1A2 should not be overlooked on the upgrade path in comparison to the M1A1 as it really brings out the E8's strengths. Despite the increased armor compared to the M4 Sherman however, the E8 is still a very soft target and will be easily destroyed if it stays exposed to enemy fire. In addition it's twin, the M4A3E2 Sherman Jumbo has thicker armor and a few more hitpoints than the M4A3E8 Sherman, but worse gun handling (dispersion on the move) and gun depression. Finding a balance is a necessity and is excellent practice for the American mediums that are to follow, which all share a similar lack of armor. Its strongest point is its excellent mobility. It accelerates very quickly on all grounds, and loses little energy in turns which makes it an ideal flanking tank. Anyone who underestimates this gem will very soon become a smoking wreck. The M4A3E8 Sherman leads to the M36 Jackson, and the T20.

Sherman tanks were not built for TANK-TO-TANK warfare. They were built for infantry support. The USA wanted to use large TANK KILLERS to eliminate the enemies tanks. A policy often flawed in the chaos of battle. Sad too that of the 30 Sherman tanks meant to float to the beaches of NORMANDY only one made it without sinking and killing the crew. Just think how those missing 29 tanks would have made a difference. Instead of 5,000 dead US soldiers it would have been more like 500 dead.
@billfulgenzi2287
@billfulgenzi2287 2 года назад
For what it's worth it, the 76mm gun was a tank killer. With high velocity armor piercing ammunition it could pierce 6" of armor at 600 yards. The frontal armor was 4" thick on a tiger tank. In the scene where they were ambushed be Tiger 131, Fury would have won much sooner that was shown.
